Cricket - I had similar surgery in 1995 although in addition to that area, I had a by-pass done in my duodenum. When they removed part of my small and part of my large bowel at the Ileum (where they join), they also removed my appendix. As far as after affects, I was warned that diarrhea may be more frequent and that bile salts would be more noticeable often causing a burning when having a movement. The part of the bowel that absorbs and processes B12 is in that area so I have to have a monthly injection of B12. In my case, I don't have more diarrhea most likely because I have been told that the by-pass I had done can cause constipation so mine kind of evens out. I do experience some burning from time to time. To my way of thinking, having this surgery and any possible side affects far outweigh the pain and discomfort of the inflammation from the Crohn's Disease. There is no cure for Crohn's and while this surgery will take care of the diseased part you are speaking of, the rest of your digestive tract is susceptible to the disease. If you want more information, don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.

Hi. My name is Cricket, I have had stomach issues for as long as I can remember. I had a colonoscopy last summer after some stomach pain and the doctors want to do a Ileocectomy to remove the narrowing of the passage between the small and large intestine and diverticulitis. Crohn's is the culprit.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this surgery and what kind of after effects they had.
