Congratulations! I usually get totally hung up on "the numbers" so I aspire to get to
Where you are. I make running work too often!
Today I had the crappiest run in a long time, but I finished & I'm content with that.

Hi everybody,

I am running again after years of being inconsistent, of only running when there was really no other appealing workout option for a given day. I ran cross-country and track in HS and for a couple seasons in college...kinda got burnt out on the competition aspect. I am in the process of losing the 30/40 pounds that I have gained over the past 9 yrs of grad school, and a couple weeks ago I realized that I actually was having fun running. I have picked up some new workouts courtesy of our AWESOME campus fitness center free class schedule (spinning, PiYo, and TurboKick are the ones I like most, especially TurboKick!) and I am lucky to have a basic elliptical at home as well (my friend gave it to me when she relocated post-graduation). But like I said, I realized a couple weeks ago that I was having fun running, like not feeling bad about myself for not going faster or thinking about how much I needed to run to burn a given number of calories, or being mad at myself for letting myself get out of shape when I used to be so much faster. Like actually enjoying it and looking forward to runs when I planned workouts...enjoying the process and not caring how hard I had to work or who saw me struggling. And looking forward to running in different places where I have work-related travel scheduled over the next 6 months. I really feel like a different person, but at the same time so connected to the "me" who ran thousands of miles training and all that. I just feel like I'm at peace with my journey I guess.

Anyway, I am happy to find this group and hi!

If you're not having fun, then why run?

You don't get to choose how you're going to die, or when. You can only decide how you're going to live. Now.

We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make the world.

My name's Martha and I'm so happy to join you all. I sustained an ankle injury in November which really hurt my running goals, but I'm finally back, and ready to rock 2014's race season. I'm more of a long distance trail girl, but I am a glutton for any race that fits into my schedule along the way. Can't wait to chat!
