Do you have your insurance for your home, auto, etc., with the same insurance company? As most companies would provide a discount if you did. Or, any way possible to lower your insurance by increasing the deductible? I know that may not be the best thing in case of a claim-but it would lower your premium possibly and make it a bit more affordable.

I wish our insurance company would do monthly payments. I am thinking we will just have to set a certain amount of money apart every month so it will be waiting when needed.
I appreciate all comments offered. Thanks.

We are not retirees but we don't pay our auto insurance all at once. Our insurance lets us do monthly payments which are automatically taken out of our checking. We couldn't do it otherwise.

Our household budget was last reviewed at the beginning of the year. I thought it was going to work out just fine, but NOT! We had a number of big expenses come along one right after the other. First we owed $2,000 in taxes (gotta fix that for sure), then insurance came due for 3 vehicles and then house and furnishings insurance, ugh - how did we manage it right together like this last year - I don't remember. Then we had to made a home repair that was $1,000, and before we knew it our savings was tapped down about $5,000 and it wasn't even June yet. I feel like things are getting out of control and truthfully they are. Paying all those things are not optional. I know I can't have this happen every year in a row and it be all right with our savings account. Usually we don't owe such taxes or have an expensive household repair running in a row like this. We are having to make some serious changes to increase our savings for future expenses. First we reviewed what all is being automatically deducted each month. How are some of you other retirees doing with managing unexpected expenses to stay ahead of things? I don't want to live financially from month to month and count my Walmart pennies and worry about this. I've been frugal for years and SURPRISE! I feel easily blown off course. Any and all tips and suggestions are welcome.
