Welcome! Our biggest motivator is ourself, and sounds like you are ready to be your own cheerleader! Walking is a great way to exercise, even if doing it in small increments. But exercise isn't everything, my trainer regularly reminds me that losing weight is 80% diet, so begin tracking your food--all of it, good and bad. It will give you and idea of what you are used to versus what is needed to lose weight. I know it's not easy, but good luck with your journey!

Hi everyone! I'm new to Spark People, joining because my very good friend invited me! What a wonderful place for encouragement and support.

I am a mom of 3, living with type 2 diabetes and the long term effects of having it uncontrolled for so long. I have peripheral neuropathy in my feet, legs and hands, and as a result have become disabled due to walking and balance issues.

My only exercise at this point is walking the family dog, Jack in 15 minute increments about 3 times a day. My oldest son and I will be joining our local gym August 3rd so we can work together on getting his weight under control and my health back.

I am tired of living with diabetes and the unwanted pounds. I want my life back, or at least I want my quality of life back. I want to see all of my sons, grow into men and start a family of their own one day without the fear of what will go wrong with my body next.

Thanks for reading!
