Hi Grandma225- I have started using the nutrition tracker faithfully - and before I have a snack - I have started checking how many calories I am putting in my mouth so it stops me from eating extra calories as many times I have changed my mind and made a wiser choice.

Thanks for the advice, I think just being aware will help me make better choices, especially when it comes to physical activity.

Thanks for the welcome.

I just started SparkPeople yesterday and the first thing I used was the nutrition tracker. I hope I can use it faithfully and find out if I am sabotaging myself or just not aware of what I am eating.

emoticon GRANDMA225 ... emoticon to Spark People and Spark North Dakota. It's nice to meet you!

If you're active and putting on weight try using the nutrition tracker for a few days to see just how many calories you're consuming. Sometimes we lose track of all we have eaten in a day, especially if we are too busy to sit down to a proper meal and snack our way through the day. Most people find the tracker a real eye opener.

I use the tracker faithfully, usually for planning my meals in advance rather that logging after I've eaten when it's too late to make adjustments. If the problem isn't what or how much you're eating maybe you should speak with your doctor to see if there is a medical issue that can be dealt with.

emoticon slimming down for those wedding pictures. The prospect of having pictures taken was what got me going. My son's Eagle Court of Honor was coming up and I sure didn't want to be fat in those pictures! I lost 65 pounds before the Eagle Court of Honor and another 27 since.

You CAN do this!

May you always have

Hi and welcome to the ND team. It seems just being active isn't enough to lose weight, maybe just keep it from accumulating or at least that has been my experience. It seems like it has to be "intentional" exercise to make a difference..and I'm working on relearning that routine. I think you're wise in setting small but attainable goals to get to where you want to be. Post often and record everything you eat and do, seems to work the best for me.

I am new to this, so I hope I'm doing it right. emoticon
I am from Grand Forks, so it is nice to join a group from North Dakota. I am a wife, mother, grandma, teacher...the list goes on and on. My mom always wondered how I could gain weight with as busy as I am, so I guess I don't know if I believe it is all calories in calories out. I am not a naturally athletic person; I try to do as much physical activity as I can, but have some health conditions that get in the way. I am hoping that if I start with small steps here, I will get on the road to my goal.
I don't really have a specific goal, I would like to lose enough weight to look OK for wedding pictures in October. Basically, I set small goals, right now I weigh 243, so my goal is to get under 240. I haven't been successful working out at a gym, so I want to try to use wii fit daily. I will try to drink 8 glasses of water daily, but that will be very difficult because I hate water.
Not sure what else you'd like to know.

Best of luck to everyone in 2010!
