Hi! Someone mentioned Annemarie Colbin on a recipe book suggestion discussion page. She wrote a book (that I have somewhere) on food and food choices and how different bodies need and lean towards different foods. It helped me see why some people don't do well on a strictly vegan or vegetarian diet. Colbin has researched food and ran a cooking school in New York.

At the moment, I've been eating animal products more often. The main reason I haven't stuck with a vegan or vegetarian diet is because it complicates how I cook for my family. I'm from small town farming Iowa. A vegetarian or a vegan diet is completely foreign and strange. My husband likes some vegetarian recipes and will compromise to have a couple of meatless meals a night. I just purchased the book VB6. I will post on this spark team page as I read it.

Hi Holly,

Like you, I enjoy doing the research and having plenty of good science to back up anything I do with my health and fitness these days. On the other hand there's almost too much science. There are studies or reports showing that almost everything we eat can be positive or negative. It makes my head spin. I've come to the conclusion do what ever makes you feel good. I've was on a vegan diet for a 21 day cleanse called the Ultimate Reset. I could do it, but the last few days got really hard for me. I started to feel as if I was missing something in my nutrition. How often do you eat animal products. When you were vegetarian and vegan for those few months were you just testing the waters?

Hello Everyone,

I'm not that new to spark people, but I am finally getting more involved with the site. I'm really loving it.

I've been a flexitarian most of my life. I have gone a couple of months vegetarian and a couple of months vegan. I enjoy the positive side effects of eating less meat and other animal products.

It can be really confusing when you do research about nutrition. There is plenty of support out there for a vegetarian or even vegan diets. It is hard to sort out fact from myth.

I am excited to share my research and experiences. I'm even more excited to learn from all of you about your research and experiences!
