Hi

Yes I am working with a dietician. I gave birth at 220 4 months ago to a preemie daughter. I am now down to 185! I am following a very strict low carb diet. She told me 15 carbs for a snack and 30-45 at each meal.

They are also helping me with carbs and calories because I am nursing our preemie. We are finding that since adding the cinnamon to our regieme I can add up to 60 carbs at dinner and take a cinnamon and my numbers be fantastic. But I must also say the dietecian is not really helping me plan meals to feed a family our size. She just says, fix what you normally fix just don't eat the pasta, or rice dishes. Or if you do make sure to eat a big salad before the pasta or rice dish.

I am finding when I am eating the salad I don't feel full for very long. So I am still learning. But I love learning it. Then I can teach my children how to make better food choices.

I am also avoiding fruit right now because any amount of it spikes my glucose a LOT.

shalom,

Hi Kendra
I'm working with a dietitian. I guess it's considered carb counting. I have these sheets to fill out everyday of what/when/how much I eat. Supposed to have 2-3 carbs (30-45g)at each meal. Then there are meaurements for all other food categories. It's pretty easy and since I'm a detailed person - I don't find it tedious.
Are you working with doctors and dietitians?

Hi Deerba,

It comes a quite a shock doesn't it! I thought I really understood nutrition with whole grains, veggies etc. I am learning more about carbs and how many carbs per meal and snack etc. What system are you using? Carb counting or exchanges? I didn't understand the exchanges, but carb counting made sense to me.

We have found these whole grain foods still cause spikes in my bg, and in my husbands. I will order that book next pay day.

We have discovered something wonderful! My hubby has been a diabetic for 5 years. He did NOTHING to control it. He would take his glucophage but no exercise or watching what he ate. Well when i became a diabetic and started making my changes he joined me! We both started on cinnamon 3 weeks ago and guess what. His blood glucose fasting is finally down to 100- 120! They used to be as high as 180. His "normal" bg after a meal was 200-240. Now they are 120-140. We are so excited. And he even had a blood glucose in the 50's. We had to treat it of course but the cinnamon is working. If you need more information on the cinnamon study I would be glad to post it.

Since I am a new diabetic and not as familiar with what my "norms" are I posted my hubbys. But my fastings have been 78-120. So I know I am doing better because these are within "normal" for the most part.

Shalom

Why wouldn't whole grains and brown rice be good? Everything I'm reading says that complex carbs are the best way to go. You may want to read Julian Whitaker's "Reversing Diabetes". I ate way too much protien for a lot of years and that hasn't helped my kidneys at all. Now I'm almost no meat. I'm mostly vegetarian. Lots of diabetics I know are vegetarian and are very healthy. Not one of them seem to have problems with their kidneys. four11

Hi everyone. I am a homeschool mom to7. Who has a newborn preemie. I had gestational diabetes with baby number 7 because I was on bedrest for 28 weeks. 8 of them confined to a hospital. They told me the lack of exercise was what triggered it.

Well here I am 4 months after her birth newly diagnosed as a diabetic. I am wanting to learn to cook for a family of 9, and maintain the budget.

We make our own whole grain breads, we eat whole wheat pasta, and brown rice, now I find out these things although more healthy than white, still aren't good for our family. These things were my budget stretchers. I simply can't afford to put an individual slice of meat in front of each person. sigh... so I am here to learn how to feed a large family with two diabetics, and possibly a third( we are waiting on the lab results for one of our children)

Thank you for letting me join our group.
