My name is Whit and I just found this wonderful support group for those of us w/diabetes. I was diagnosed last January at age 35, and went through the deluge of emotions that comes with the diagnosis--guilt, shame, embarrassment, fear, confusion, dread, loneliness--you name it. But you know what I decided? I declared early on that I might have diabetes, but it doesn't have me! I refuse to let it beat me, to let it make me feel like I felt in those first few days. I have it. now I get to choose what to do with it. I am not perfect every day, but I have more good days than bad, and the last few weeks have seen me be recommitted to battling it on a daily basis. I am on metformin daily, and along with diet and exercise, I have been able to keep my A1C around 6.2, which I am happy with since it was over 9 in the beginning. Looooooooong story short, we recently quit our jobs, moved, and started a new business, which has been beyond stressful. I found myself slipping into old patterns of emotional eating and blowing off walking, but I have finally gotten my hiney back in gear and feel stronger and more motivated than I have since well before all the craziness began in the summer.

I am looking forward to giving and receiving support in this group, and hope to make some new friends along the way. Take care, stay focused, and have an awesome day!

You only go around once, but if you do it right, once is enough.

Life is while you still have teeth. :)
