SSSHORTCAKE, from what I've read in health publications, I believe that most such supplements are best to be avoided, due to possible issues with our hearts. I caution you to be careful to read as much as you can about any such supplement before you take anything new, especially with being diabetic. I was diagnosed more recently than you, and I do take the supplement Chromium Piccolinate, which I've been taking since long before my diagnosis. It's supposed to help reduce blood sugar levels, but not help with weight loss. I would encourage you to NOT take any pills to try to lose weight. A weight reduction food plan is what will probably help you the most, without the aid of over the counter supplements. I'm not a doctor, so I am not giving medical advice.

Hi, honestly I personally wouldn't try any of the fast weight loss solutions. I have done it in the past - I was NOT diabetic then !
When you are newly diagnosed - you need to be very careful. You are trying to level out your body - and yes - you may think you have it controlled with your meds - and then, BOOM - you eat too much of something - or you get sad - or you get too happy - or you get worked up about something and the stress will raise your sugar. Your body takes a while to adapt to certain changes.
I personally wouldn't do anything without first reading plenty into it - seeing side effects, and how it can affect a person with diabetis.

Also, try talking to your doctor - SOMETIMES - they do know what they are doing - and could guide you in the right direction !!!! Its better to stick with a healthy eating plan, and take it slow. If you lose weight too quickly - you could gain it back just as quickly as you lost it !

Only my opinions, I hope they help !

Hi There!
Welcome!
I do use suppliments plus medication, however I do agree that if you stick to a good menu plan, and practice on that life style change, becoming successful at that, suppliments won't be neccessary. When a person waits too long to correct and is careless as I was, then suppliments will help avoiding shots a bit longer. Determine to win at your weight loss and exercise, and you may never have to think about the suppliments. You can do it!

Have a great day!

-Kat

i too am diabetic. I have never used any supplements. If you will stick to your plan, you will not need them. Losing fast is not what is important-just losing. Good luck!

Hi everyone, I'm brand new ...as of yesterday to sparks and I just found out I was diabetic about a month ago.
So far it hasn't been to bad with the medication I'm on and following the G.I diet my blood sugar is usually in normal ranges. I'm hoping to lose 100 or more pounds.
Has anyone tried any of the diet suppliments like hoodia or any of the others that are suppose to help you loose weight faster and if you how well do they work or how safe are they when you are diabetic?
