Hi Amy!
I'm glad I found this group too; it helps knowing that there are others out there with my condition; until I was diagnosed with it, I had never even heard of it.

My name is Shari; I have been a Sparker since July 2006, I am now in hospice care for metastatic breast cancer, but I'm not letting cancer stop me from Sparking!

Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

I just found out a few weeks ago I too have gastroparesis (and "global motility disorder"). I'm wishing you the very best of luck w/ your treatment.
I'm on Reglan 4 times a day / I do know about the side effects and possible complications but at this point it's a life saver to me. I was on it for 2.5 years previously and off & on it for 8-9 years before beiing doagnosed because the dr's didn't know what was wrong w/ my system.
I was reffered to a leading GI specialist on the east coast at Temple University; for a possbile clinical trial for domperidone but my insurance doesn't cover this doctor.
My family dr has no issue w/ prescribing the reglan as i am to the point that there are days i can not eat at all & was still vomitting/nauseeous & dry heaves.
I just bought Ensure for days when i just can not look at food.
It's tough being a vegetarian, following this very low fiber diet and having global motility disorder (where normally you would need a high fiber diet)- and now having to be a Miralax/dulcolax every day from now.
I have a GI follow up in a few months.

I'm glad to have found a group that understands the issues the disoder itself.

Hoping to get to know you all and wishing you all peace and healing.

Amy

Thank you! I will check out those resources.
I have a feeling some of the learning along the way of what I can and cannot eat will be a little bit of trial and error.

Hi MOM2ACAT!

I'm sorry that you have GP, along with a host of other things! But we'll do everything we can to help you here.

If you have not had a chance to check out our Library, please feel free to see if there's some info that might help. I know when I got diagnosed with GP about 11 years ago (3 doctors have confirmed it's from 4 months of radiation treatments), I had a ton of questions.

Yes, this disease can be hard to understand. Everyone who has it seems to have it to varying degrees and has their own set of limitations. The day-by-day approach is what helps me. I'm currently on Azithmromycin - similar to the EES, but I don't feel as sick to my stomach with it.

Please ask questions and someone from the team will do their best to answer questions or point you in the direction to get answers. I've found MayoClinic.com to be very helpful and comprehensive.

Many of us work full-time during the day, so if we don't get back to you right away, you'll know why.

Sending you hugs!
Lucky

Life's an adventure ... take it one step at a time and don't underestimate yourself! You're capable of more than you think you are! How do I know this? You're still here aren't you? That means you haven't given up!

I have had a long history of GERD and IBS; I also have stage IV breast cancer. I noticed an increase in my GERD symptoms about 3 months ago, when my chemo regimen was changed. I was also having bloating and chest pain. I was referred to a gastro doctor and had a gastric emptying study done; mine was 30%. I was told today I have gastroparesis.

I also had radiation to my spine last January and February, and some of that radiation passed through my stomach, so I am thinking that might be partly to blame too.

I am on Protonix and today just started on erythromycin.

Still trying to get my head wrapped around all this, especially with the diet part.
