I have been able to take Zofran without getting drowzy. I take an 8 mg tablet, it dissolves on your tongue, and it helps the nausea. You can take a tablet every 8 hours for nausea. Some pepto bismal tablets work too, sorry you were diagnosed with GP. This is a trial and error disease, I hope you find something that works for you and that information from this group is helpful. You can also check out some other websites, G-Pact, and just google Gastroparesis. Good luck on your journey.

Hi Diet_Kat, and welcome!!

When you find another doctor, see if you can get a 'script for Tigan. It's the only thing I can take for nausea and have been using it for years.

I'm not sure if any of the prescription anti-nausea meds can keep you from getting drowsy, but you might build a tolerance to it and the drowsiness would go away. I have heard that some of the OTC things like Zantac or Prilosec can help since a lot of nausea is caused by too much acid on the stomach. I think Prilosec and Prevacid do a better job than Zantac. Ask your pharmacist what dose you could take that would equal a prescription strength dose. Usually it's about twice the labeled recommended dose. It's worth a try!

Hope this helps!

Hi there. I am new to Gastroparesis, just diagnosed in Decemeber. My main problem is occasional out of nowhere extreme nausea. I can eat a small meal or snack or a huge meal and nothing. And then a one day can't move OMG I want to throw up. I never do, I take meds to prevent it. My main reason for being here is to see if anyone has taken anything for the nausea or what works for you guys. My Dr pretty much diagnosed me and said "Goodluck!" and Bye Bye. I don't take Reglan, as it interacts with other medication I take. I'd love to hear about anything that won't make me drowsy. That side effect, I am sick of. Ok, ttyl :)
