I do the same thing as Kate. It makes it so much easier than trying to fight my way through the locker room at the Y.

I change into my workout clothes at work. It makes it easier to just drive to the gym and start working out. That said, a couple of nights a week I work out at home instead. Keep working at it! emoticon emoticon

DEBBY0639, I do understand how you feel. What works for me is working out at home. I do the video on here with Nicole at my desk. I do the chair workouts. I do workout to the Wii and I walk now that the weather is good. I also do yarn work as well. Maybe you could start off with a walk around the block and increase every week or every other week. That might work for you. Once you start to workout you will see how your energy level will improve as well as the attitude about working out. Once I started it is hard to stop. I will say to myself that I am not working today and even if I just do 20 minutes at home, I feel good about myself and it just brighten up my day.

Hello Everyone,

I join a gym that close to my job and home, thought it would be easy for me just to go in and do a workout but I find myself going home. I have packed a bag etc but just run down after work. I do have a part time job along with my full time.
I want to improve myself this year, I have find where I encourage my friends and family to get moving and excise but yet I don't do this for myself.

I have decided to not join a gym. I do carry a bag with my gear in it now though and I do a quick jog through the park before I get home. Then I started the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred program so I do that at my house after my jog. I am on day 5 today and it is working pretty good so far.

Good Morning...currently I am working a part time position for State Assembly so I definitely have the ability to work out after work. I just haven't done it. Today I will push myself to get to the gym and work out....

Good luck in finding a gym that fits your needs If I didn't carry my gym bag with me all the time I would never make it myself

Goodness I have never had so many replies on a sparkteam before! Wow! I am actually looking for a 24 hour gym I like at the moment. I really liked the idea of just having a bag of all my gear with me and going for a workout before I even get home. Once I get anywhere close to my bed I just want to sleep :-) Hopefully it will be a bit easier once I am done with shift work. I only work here for now so I can save up money to finish my last year of my bachelors degree. You guys are great motivation!

I find that working out right after work helps me to avoid that horrible 5pm traffic and traffic induced stress. I also substitute a workout for family zumba night (still totally a workout) to keep everyone healthy and happy.

Hi Sarah emoticon

Welcome to the team. I have a normal schedule...but my husband is up during the night and so he works out late too. He works out at home though. I know some gyms are open 24 hours or nearly 24 hours so going to the gym after work is an excellent idea. Just pack a gym bag and take it with you. Go straight to the gym after work.

Home work outs could be any number of the exercise routines on SP, most cable TV has free fitness channels or shows on demand, exercise DVDs are good too. Or even a treadmill/bike at home.

It's not about how bad you want it...it's about how hard you're willing to work for it

Hello and welcome to our team. I do understand and even if you just worked out for 30 min that might help you out then take a shower. That use to help me when I worked the late shift.

Welcome to the team! I have never done shift work, so I am not sure what the special challenges are around the specific hours you are up. I make sure I hit the gym on my way home most days to make sure I get my exercise in. My gym is open 24 hours and I imagine it's pretty quiet at 2 am., lol. If you can exercise at home without waking anyone up, you could try the extensive library of workouts here on Sparkpeople.

There are threads here that you can post your monthly exercise commitment and then update all month as you work out. That might give you the accountability to motivate you.

Jump in! We are here to cheer you on. emoticon

Hi my name is Sarah. I work second shift and get home around 2 a.m. and I would love a little motivation and accountability to make working out after work easier. I hate getting up early in the morning and after a 10 hour shift it is hard for me to just go to sleep so I am usually up anyways...like I said, I just need some motivation! Hope to hear from all of you on the message boards emoticon
