Love all that you've said here!!!
Lots of little steps; life style change; eat clean; change patterns that have historically led to binges; don't say to yourself what you wouldn't say to your best friend; avoid soda pop. Stick with it, you'll do fine!!!!

emoticon take the site slowly, it can seem overwhelming at first but is really great. Loads of tools and people to support you and encouragement to find the healthy you and not label it "diet" as this is about whole life changes not a quick fix.

Any specific questions ask team leaders as they have loads of info and experience emoticon

emoticon Izzi, welcome to the team! I've lost a bit over 72 pounds now in 17 weeks and for ME all it is is staying within my fat and calorie range each day making sure that I do exercise every day for AT LEAST ten minutes straight. I exercise for 30 minutes a day. Make sure to drink all the water you are supposed to (that is VERY important) and SLEEP, don't skimp on sleep. That is my magic formula so far.
I wish you the best, and I know you can do it!

I agree with everything Olivia said. In addition I'd say set small goals that are achievable and you can build on. Don't think of it as a diet but as a healthier way of eating and living changes work better when they suit you and your schedule. Small steps are key to making long term changes that you can live with. Don't be too hard on yourself - if you go wrong it's not the end of the world, just balance blips against all the things you've done right and make a better choice next time. Loads of small steps and improvements take you a long way.

I know weighing and measuring is a faff, but nothing worth having comes easy. I've lost a stone and a half since joining SP but my diet hasn't radically changed; I just started measuring out proper portions of what I was already eating.
My other advice is to get active in some teams, use your blog and comment on other blogs. Community is SP's strongest tool.

Hi there, I've just discovered this site and am hoping it will help me to find the support and motivation I need to shift the 50 pounds or so I need to lose. I'm 47 and over the last 30 years or so I have: counted calories, counted fat units, been to Slimming World, Weight Watchers and Rosemary Conley, done the Atkins diet, done meal replacements, done the grapefruit and egg diet, done 5:2/intermittent fasting, bought magazines and followed meal plans out of them, joined other online slimming sites eg. weightlossresources, been to my doctor in desperation, been referred to local authority groups and even psychologists, bored my friends and family stupid...is any of this sounding familiar? I am truly fed up with weight being the big issue in my life. I have high blood pressure, have had cancer (10 years ago and clear ever since), was pre-diabetic but presently testing normal for blood sugar, cholesterol borderline but not too bad. I have a family history of strokes and heart disease and I'm very much aware that I'm at the point now where it's going to have a serious effect on my health if I don't deal with it once and for all. My focus used to be on how I looked (and still is to a certain extent) but now it's mainly about staying alive and as healthy as possible. Can anyone give me advice about how to get the most out of this site? I haven't reallyl looked at all the site yet and am not really keen on the idea of weighing and measuring because I find I can't keep it up for long but if anyone can suggest anything I haven't already tried that might help, PLEASE do!
