SOCCERNC99, Welcome to the team. Wow, you are so young to all ready have such fusion. It is great that you are still able to run and able to do a 10k. And it is also good that you have found the warmer weather in Texas to be beneficial to you.

Howdy new Fellow-ASers ! Welcome!
I ve been diagnosed zwo years ago after 30 year long searching the cause ;-)
Yes - life has changed sice this baby got his true name. Sometimes im thinking about moving in warmer weather too, but i still canīt work from everywhere in the world. We'll see. Good to hear from your experoence runner!
I have lot of trouble with my feet too, canīt walk since Beginning of April. D...n Sh....t. You know what i mean ;-) Gave me nearly 10 lbs + :-((
Glad to see there a bit of traffic in our little forum
I cancelled my gym last week for a few month. Im not motivated to workout with weights at the moment. Mostly i do Yoga (daily) , i workout once a week in special AS-Group leaded by a physio.
Since two month i do a weekly lesson of Feldenkrais. This helps me sooo much to improve my moving. Its kinda learning to move again and in a new way from scratch. I love it.
For the coming wintermonths i'm on the search for a Nia-Workout group. Nia mixes eastern relaxing techniques and martial art with a lot of dancing. But i think theres no teacher in my area. so i do with the help of youtube-vids and a book ;-)
Ah.. and a lot of water-gym in a thermal-spa near me !

Hi there! I know what you mean about getting a flare right when you seem to make physical progress... I have put on 20 lbs over the past year or so, and I continue to be challenged by the negative self talk. That doesn't help my weight or my illness! Most of my pain is in my feet (I work in retail) and my back. Sparkpeople is a great site to gain motivation from others. I just keep telling myself that I am not the only person trying to overcome a painful condition - I am not going to let AS rule my life!

Stay well!

Hi everyone, I am new, I was diagnosed about a month ago but have had problems for over 10 years. It got really bad, back in May and just keeps getting worse. The worst part is that when my symptoms got really bad I had lost 30lbs, was running, eating great, and ran 3 miles for the first time. I have since not been able to excersize except for yoga, and due to steroids have put back on 15lbs. Talk about down! I am hoping that with support from other ppl like me I can get back on track. I have been so lost, mad and all those other negative emotions. My issues are my arms they always hurt, but when it gets cold like right now it's my back hips, and knees as well as my arms. Right now the only thing I am taking is sulfasalozine because I have a bleeding disorder that prevents me from taking nsaids, my dr. and I are trying to figure it all out.

I just found this board too! I have had the pain and stiffness from AS for about 10 years, but was recently diagnosed after a bout of iritis. I am glad to meet up with people that can understand my challenges. Sometimes I allow negative self talk (I am just lazy, other people have pain) undermine my ability to get going and make positive strides. Finally being diagnosed was like having a huge weight lifted (the pain was no longer just "depression" or "in my head"). I am looking forward to reclaiming my life!

I am amazed you are able to run so much! I have a lot of pain in my feet, so I usually stick to an elliptical or something with less impact. What else do you do in your exercise routine? (Looking for suggestions that provide some results without too much strain.)

Great to "meet" you and good luck with your goals!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this board, been on sparkpeople for a few months though. I am 30 and received this diagnosis of AS at age 21. My neck is partially fused and has been for 8+ years. My shoulders, hips and back are, by far the worst. We actually recently relocated from MD to TX to help with my arthrits. I just feel SO much better in warm weather. The MD crazy weather just wasn't working for me an the pain I would deal with was unreal. I love living in TX and the pain has drastically gone down.
I have started running again and am planning on running a 10k in a little over a week. I also am planning on running a full marathon in Disney 2013.
Thank you for taking the time to read and have a great day.
