I am a little slow. Nothing new about that.
But I wanted to welcome you to the team.

Vali, It is nice to have you here. Even though AS is more common in men there about 1/3 of the people diagnosed with it are female. So you are far from alone.

I have never seen a corned beef and cabbage recipe that was to high in calories. The one that Erin Provided is fairly standard and it is basically a meal in a pot. I am also mostly Irish but, I hate to admit, corned beef and cabbage is far from my favorite meal. I still have to have it. Tradition and all. But I really like the corned beef hash we always make from the leftovers. That is the whole purpose of having corned beef.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the organizers of this team! My name is Vali and I was diagnosed with AS almost twenty-five years ago now. In all that time, I have never found another woman with this condition so I was just blown away when I was looking at all the available teams to join and found this one, and not only was there an AS team, but there are other women that suffer from this!

My AS has progressed fairly slowly, however, the steroid use has racketed up my weight to where it is higher than ever! As I've grown heavier, my joints have protested more loudly and the AS seems to be picking up speed. It could be the age thing too.

Over the years I have been frustrated that I couldn't participate in regular exercise (a few years ago, a local gym actually asked me to stop coming because they were afraid I would get hurt). however, I have recently discovered water aerobics and that seems to have made a tremendous difference in the way I have been feeling lately.

I really don't feel too handicapped most days. I'm a 49 year old working mother of seven children ages 12 through 31 and four beautiful grandchildren aged 6,5,8 mos., & 4 mos. I have been married to the same man for almost 32 years and I was thrilled to see Erin's "Erin Go Braugh" message! We are definitely an Irish family and March 17th is our favorite day of the year (love the corned beef and cabbage!) AND, if any of you have good ideas on shaving some calories off the traditional St. Patty's Day meal I'd love to hear them.

Sorry...I've kind of gushed on and on! I'm looking forward to getting to know you and to support you in your daily dealings with AS!
