Sunny,
Thank you, I appreciate that. I didn't get to see my son come home from his service (I did go to KS to see him come back from Iraq! Had to!) but it has been 2 years since I've seen my kids. Kinda rough.

I thought I wouldn't miss winter too...but surprise I would be as happy as a bug in a rug to be in OH right now.

Geez, am I whining or what? Thanks for letting me vent.

Pam - I will be praying that your home sells and you can get back to Ohio before your # 3 grandchild is
born.

I would miss the season too but the thought of Florida has really been crowding my mind lately.

Pam, we'll practically be neighbors. I live in Indiana (across the river from Louisville). There's a huge flea market up heading towards Dayton that we love to go to. I love the seasons here, even if the last ice storm was pretty inconvinient.

Hi Sunny, as soon as our mobile home sells we are out of here. I know most people would think we are crazy but I miss my 3 kids and have not had the privilege to meet my 2 grandchildren (both born since I've been down here) and now my daughter is expecting her first child and #3 grandchild for me. I'm from Dayton. And miss the weather too. Yup, I'm loco...lol.

Hi Karen and thank you. I'm a little limited in the help I can do because currently I'm living in FL but can't wait to move back to OH - yes, cold, snow, ice and all. I get e-mails from my chapter and do what I can. My son may be home safe but there are so many more doing that hard job.
By the way, I decided to take my measurements and maybe that scale isn't moving but I've lost 1.5 inches off my waist.
What a wonderful group, thank you Bwinks5 for helping me find it!

Pam, welcome to the team! And thank you for your continued support of our troops. A lot of times people are interested in support groups when they have a loved one serving, but tend to go inactive when they aren't directly involved. I try to look at it this way- our troops are all sons and daughters, and we need to support each and every one of them as best we can.

Hi Shelly and welcome! My son did his basic at Ft. Benning and is going to be spending the summer there again for some training when he comes back from Germany. I'm so proud of your son. I know he is going to do an awesome job. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you. The military is really a great big family, and we all need to support one another as well as our troops.

Hi! My name is Shelly. My youngest son, 19 yo, has just enlisted in the Army. Infantry. He leaves for Fort Benning in 4 days. Needless to say I am sad to see him leave but my husband and I support him 100%.
He was in Sea Cadets (Navy) while in high school, did 2 weeks of boot camp in Tampa and LOVED it.

He will spend 12 weeks at Fort Benning.

I am thankful I found this team- just hearing from other parents with kids in the Military is comforting! So THANK YOU!!

It's so great to see our little team growing. I was looking for a support team and didn't see one, so I started this one. It's been kind of quiet, but we've finally started picking up some new members. I'm so excited!
I think joining the Army was the best thing my son ever did. It allowed him to grow up and he really thirves on the military environment. I still worry, but I'm very proud of him.

Hi Blue Star Moms - When I first joined Spark, I looked for a Blue Star Group and there wasn't one.
Today, I found you all. emoticon I am Sunny and I
am a Proud Army Mom of Joshua - currently stationed in Germany but will be state bound the 1st of March.

I was very upset when he enlisted but seeing the change in him has definitely changed my mind. They took a boy - now I have a Man who know what direction in life he is headed. He is so self assured and I am so proud of him.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Hugs, Sunny

That is soo true. This weekend we have been potty training Peyton and the last two days we have not done soo well on our lifestyle change. So today I am making a point of getting back in the sattle. I realized when I don't drink my water like I usually do I'm extremely thirsty.

Well I'm Amanda and I'm an Army wife. Since being at the base that we are in the South myself and my husband have gained way too much weight. So I'm just here for support and give some support also. Wether it be for diet, exercise or just military support. We have a son Peyton who is 3. I have fallen in love with the gym all over again. I forgot how powerful it makes me feel to be able to do the things that I use to be able to do again. Now I'm just saving up for a treadmill and eliptical for my house.

Thanks very much for the welcome. The worst place my son was Afghanistan and he says that is worse than Iraq. What was even worse was the planes he worked on (F-15) had been grounded at that point.

Hi All! I am thrilled to see that even a weight loss site can pull in some support for our Soldiers! My son signed up for the Army just a few months after his high school graduation. He is my only child and it about blew my mind. He had never been away from home before for any length of time and I was not sure how I was going to handle it. But, you persevere and offer support to your child irregardless of what life choices they make. He left for Basic in October 07, graduated then moved on to AIT and then was assigned to his unit. 2 weeks after he joined his unit the word came out of their deployment. I was totally devastated. Now my son is in Afghanistan and doing us PROUD! It is still hard not seeing him every day but I know he is doing what he wants and giving it his all. God Bless all of our Soldiers and may they all come home safe.

You can't live off of shoulda, woulda and coulda's.

My Son Steve, age 19, is in the Airforce, basic training actually, he graduates Feb 13th.
So am I right if this qualifies me?

Of course you are very welcome here! I think I sent a message to your spark page. I also work in KY, and a fellow kindergarten teacher has a husband who is full time active KY guard. This past Veteran's Day our school sponsored an "adopt a Troop" and we collected enough stuff to fill 50 boxes to send to our Troops overseas. Everyone here appreciates the sacrifies the families of our troops make. Please give your husband an extra hug and tell him I said thanks for serving our country. I look forward to getting to know you. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi, I'm Nikki! I hope that you count spouses that are troops. My husband, David, is a veteran of the 101st Airborne out of Ft. Campbell, KY, and a recent KY National Guard recruit. I was really just looking for a team that was supportive of our troops. It scares me to death to think that at any given time they may decide he needs to go overseas. Right now, it looks like he may have to go spend a year in Kuwait somewhere around the beginning of 2013. But, this has changed a couple of times since July. I hope they just keep pushing it back.

It sounds like you have a great military tradition going in your family. I wanted to start this thread to support other military families because we all have a unique situation that everyday people can't relate to. It's a very small group - if you know any other Sparkers who have sons or daughters in the military, send them this way! And welcome to Blue Star Moms!

Hi all I was looking to start a new team when I found this one my son is in the navy been in for 2 years is stationed in Maryland on a nondeployable tour he just finished his first of two years so for one more year I will not have to worry about him overseas. He duty station does not leave him out of harms way so I do still worry. I guess as mothers we always will. My son is third generation Naval SEA BEE my dad myself and on Paul. He said if he went in the service it would be the Navy to honor his grandfather (now passed on) who he loves dearly.
I am so glad for this team and team leader if you need help please let me know what I can do

I totally agree! These days so many kids are sort of aimlessly wandering through life not sure at all what they want to do, and for you to have brought up 4 that all have ambitions to go out and serve their country, you must be doing something right!! You should be VERY proud-its emotional, and sometimes heartbreaking, but our kids are out there making us proud every day!!! Sheri

Welcome to the Blue Star Mom team! And yes, you certainly are a blue star mom- any mom who has a son or daughter serving in the military is a blue star mom! We are very happy to have you. Since this is a new team, we're really small right now, but we hope to get the word out that we are here. Congratualtions on raising such a service minded family!

I'm not sure if I qualify yet to be a Blue Star Mom or not. My boys aren't deployed yet, and won't be for awhile. And if I get an abbreviation or acronym wrong, sorry... even being a military brat myself, I'm still learning!

Andrew, age 21, is in the Army National Guard. After BASIC, he went to DLI in Monterey for 15 months (studied Russian), then to Ft. Huachuca for HUMITS training. Now he's back in college at North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega, where he's in the Army ROTC. He'll graduate from there in Dec. '09, and then commission into the Army. Despite his language and interrogator training with the Guard, he wants to go Infantry. He plans on making the Army a career. His new wife (as in, they were married 7/12!) and I don't understand, but are supportive of him no matter what.

Mark, age 19, left 3 days ago for BASIC training at Ft. Jackson, SC with the Army National Guard. He'll go to Ft. Gordon after that. I'm still not exactly sure what his MOS is, but it is something with computers. After AIT he plans on going to the same college as Andrew, doing the ROTC thing, then commissioning in when he graduates. His long-term goal is to be a chaplain, but we'll see. Whatever he does, he is planning on making the Army a career.

I have another son, Christopher, who is still in high school, but is in the Air Force JROTC program. He plans on going to college where there is a Marine ROTC program, as that is the branch he wants to join. Right now he is thinking he wants to make the Marines a career, but since he is 16, he doesn't have definite plans yet.

My daughter, Rebekah, is 15 and would love to join up. She has the heart for it, for sure! But since she also has mild cerebral palsy, she can't join. I think she'll end up doing some kind of foreign missionary work with our church, though, based on what she says now, if even just for a short time.

I used to think having 4 little kids with just 6.5 yrs between the oldest and youngest was the hardest time of parenting. Boy was I wrong! Because THIS... THIS time is the hardest.

Okay, I'll end this novel for now. I'm feeling extra emotional these days, with Mark having just left. I didn't worry about Andrew the same as I am about Mark. Different kids handling things different ways, ya know?

If I don't qualify as a Blue Star mom, y'all let me know and I'll be quiet!

I didn't get to see my Jason when he came home on his R&R. His wife and son are in WA near her family and I couldn't afford the airfare. BUT it was wonderful not having to worry about him for a couple of weeks, and he's going to come and visit when he gets back. My kiddos at school sent him letters all year, and I can't wait to bring him for "show and tell" lol.

Hey!! We can certainly understand the way you feel. Baby steps is the way to go. My older son is married and the week he got leave was the week the Army gave he and his wife thier house. Go figure instead of coming to NC they were in Texas fixing up the house. Jason is getting married next July which is one of the biggest reasons I want to loose weight.

Corey is in Georgia right now, doing preparations for going. He leaves for Kawait on Saturday, then on to Iraq.We are moving to Florida in September, where we will be close to his wife, and able to see him when he gets leave in Feb.I need to re-focus myself and get back to my goals. Ever since my 4th of July HOLIDAY I have been way off track!

Aww, when is Corey headed back? No wonder you've been feeling down. I'm so glad to have you in the group- now we have three members! Baby steps, just like on the rest of Spark People. Every time I moan about going walking, I think about Jason lugging his pack around in the desert heat. At least I can wear shorts and go home to my ice water and air conditioned house!

Hi! I'm Sheri, and my son Corey is heading back to Iraq for a yr. He is married now, and his wife is in Tampa, Florida. He has already been to Iraq once, for 3 months. I hope to meet other moms that have to deal with the stress of their sons and daughters in the military, and also on their own path to a healthier life! Our kids need us strong and healthy, right?
