Hi everybody! I had a Sleeve Gastrectomy on 12-23-09. I've lost 18 lbs in that short time. I've been with SP for almost 3 years with no significant weight loss, even though I tracked calories and calories burned. I got so frustrated that I gave up for a few months. I had been preparing for this surgery for 6 months (insurance requirement) so I gathered all my courage and gave myself a Christmas present to change my life forever. So far, no regrets at all. I'm thinkin' it's the best thing I ever did for me.

hi there pat and bama!!

i'm new here, glad i found ya!!!

i was banded on 02 Oct 08 so i'm just a week and 2 days out..so far so good, i would love to share with you my journey and get the shoulder i might need to lean on who understands my issues or doesn't judge them *S*

i started at 304 at my heaviest....i lost 13 pre surgery on the blasted yogurt and cottage cheese "diet" and am so far down to 287...i have a LONG way to go and am looking forward to each and every single pound i can share with you!!

Pat, i decided on the band because i didn't want to feel like i didn't need to work to lose the weight, i wanted a tool but also wanted to put in the work...i've had a very hard time to lose weight previous to my surgery and just needed something to keep me motivated...so being banded was the best decision for me...i have the support of my family and friends which helps alot!! i was also self pay, it cost me 18000 not including the flight and hotel fees since the surgery isn't offered in my province (i'm in canada) and i'm also in the military, and getting them to pay for anything like bariatric surgery is like pulling teeth, they are slow to approve and then slow to get it started....so for me, the lap band was the best tool...i would love to answer any questions you have but since i'm newly banded i might not have all the information but i can share with you my experience...good luck to you!!

Hi, I am considering lapband and am very interested in anything you might be able to share - like what you wish you'd known.... I'm over 50 and I need to lose 100 pounds. Surgery is expensive and scary but I"m really frustrated with trying other ways to accomplish this. Your info is inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

When I joined Spark I quickly found out that there wasn't a group for those of us who have had WLS. What type doesn't matter, but sometimes we each need a bit of extra, and a bit different, motiviation or support. This is the place for it. We might have had the surgery, but we know we have to work just as hard as everyone else to ensure success.

I myself was banded on May 29, 2008. As of today (June 9, 2008) I've lost about 24 pounds. I started at 271 and my overall goal is 150 pounds.

My current mini goal is to be under 225 and I can't wait!

So, tell me about you - your goals, your frustrations, your milestones. We want to hear them!

Love yourself, and everyone else will too.
