Hi there! I can totally relate! I felt I couldn't do it alone too, and had no friends/family who were serious about leading a healthy lifestyle. Then in Dec. 2008 I realized, it wasn't about anyone else but ME so I set a goal (in my case a 15k) which was 60 days out and I started tracking and training. Ran every run, did every workout by myself, got people to cheer me on for my race and come raceday, was down 2 sizes. Set another goal, got people to cheer me on, met goal, down another size. Continued to set goals and have fun with them, as it took my mind off of "losing weight", I only weighed and measured myself once a month and 9 months from Dec. 2008 was at my goal size. I realized the food was most important and blogging on Sparkpeople helped too as it kept me accountable. Now, it's amazing how many people I've been able to help do the same thing and I didn't set out to be any type of role model, I just took the personal responsibility to do it for ME and no one else. So while everyone is different, what worked for me, is to set goals, commit to them, tell everyone about the goal so you can't back out, stay away from the scale, log every single thing you eat, follow Sparkpeople's calorie/fat/protein/etc. recommendations, find exercise that you enjoy, incorporate strength training immediately and HAVE FUN!!! You really can do this!
