Good to see you here. How lucky TJ found you!

May I always be the kind of person that my dog thinks I am.

Hi! I go by Sparky. It makes sense as my given name is S(usan)Park(er)y. I go by Susan, too. I use Sparky online where there are a lot of guys. I guess I remember the days if you were a girl posting in the newsgroups and the guys figured out you were a girl, it was a pain in the neck.

I joined the team a few weeks ago and realized I did not introduce myself. I live in The Land of Elvis (aka Memphis Metro area). I'm married to James. I have a step-daughter (Meagan) who lived with us during her school years along with pets. I grew up in Western Wisconsin on a dairy farm. My mom was a school teacher. My dad farmed.

Our pets include Sabe ("sah-bay") who is a cat. She'll be 15 years old in December and is in great condition for her age. She's quite sprightly. Our other cat Kimo passed away three years ago. That's how Sabe got her name. It was fun to say "our cats are Kimo and Sabe". Get it? Terrible joke, I know. Both were "strays" as kittens.

We have a Jack Russel Terror, I mean Terrier, who is named TJ. He's 9 - 11 years old. He moved in under our shed after we had it installed when we moved into our house 7 years ago. The vet told us he was 2 - 4 years old. He lived under the shed maybe a week before we noticed him. He moved in not long after.

He was named TJ since we liked the name "Jack". We were not overly familiar with Jack Russels when we thought of the name "Jack". But he spooled up like the Turbo on a car so we thought maybe "Turbo" would be a good name. Instead we went with "Turbo Jack" and shortened it to TJ.

He's an adorable little turkey. We know he's got Jack Russel as a part of his heritage. He might have other heritage as well. The JRT is very obvious. He's a broken coat so he's got cowboy fringe on his front legs and his face and neck. I need to add his pic to my profile since I don't have a profile pic yet (pretty sad considering I've only been on spark for 18 months but really active for about 3 months).

My goal is to change my lifestyle. Yes, I'm on a diet right now. I know how to lose weight. What I'm learning in this experience is to change how I think about food. I eat cookies every few days (homemade chocolate chip ones). I am not going to live without my treats and I'm going to live by enjoying what I eat. If it tastes like crap, I'm not eating it even if it's "good" for me.

I'm using the Beck Diet Solution as my behavior modification tool. I've worked steadily through the workbook (there's a book and workbook version - just pick one if you decide to use it). I've started Week 6. I've taken my time here and there (like when I was on vacation).

I'm making progress. My weight is going in the right direction. I'm exercising consistently. I eat decently and I enjoy every bite that I take. If I can't enjoy it, what's the point?

Forward ho. I like this team's topics by the way. Those without pets don't "get it" sometimes.

Both TJ and I are happier when we get our exercise. We are more charming and less snappy. emoticon

Happy Tuesday, y'all! Pretty good for a "damn" Yankee. In the South, a "damn" Yankee is one that came and stayed! I mean that in good fun. Not all southerners chide us non-southerners about it!
