Welcome Piper & Dudley! You're so in the right place. My dogs are my main motivation for getting off the couch. I have a Basset & a soft spot for anything long & low! People tend to forget that Doxies & Bassets were bred as hunting dogs & need a lot of exercise--well, in between naps!

There's a wonderful book, When Pigs Fly by Jane Killion, specifically for our ...um...less than work-ethic-oriented breeds. emoticon You & Dudley will do fine. Looking forward to more stories! emoticon emoticon emoticon

You're right--Dudley is DEFINITELY training me! For the moment, I feel it's worth it, but I may be singing a different tune, once I've had him more than a month:) As of right now, it seems to be a win-win situation.

Careful, once they get in the habit of daily walks it gets really hard to say no to them. Mine get me up bright and early on the weekends for out walks cause we walk early during the week.

Watch out for the dachshund. I have one and she is very high maintenance. Like to sleep under the covers, Hats when rain or snow falls on her. But hates more to be left behind if I leave her and take the shepherd. LOL

Hello! My name is Piper, and my dog's name is Dudley. He's my first dog ever, and I'm enjoying him SO MUCH! He is half Dachsund, half Basset, two years old and loves to walk/run. I've had him a month, and even though I haven't been focusing on losing weight in the time I've been adjusting to my new pet, I've managed to maintain my weight, which I attribute to our daily walks. Now that Dudley and I are getting into a routine, I'm looking forward to getting back on track with Sparkpeople, and re-focusing on my goals.
