Hi & Welcome aboard! Sounds like a wonderful plan. You'll be in good company. We have several runners on here & at least one other member doing the C25K program. Yell for help or just inspiration!

I hear you on the smaller dog being an exercise buddy. I have a middle aged Basset who is actually my athlete & drags me out for walks. I'm in training just to keep up with *him* (Not a good sign, I know!) But my little Cavaliers, esp. the eldest, figure that rearranging sofa pillows is exercise enough.

Good for you for waiting for Jet's growth plates to close. I know some people who started agility training a bit early with their dogs & had joint problems (the dogs; not them) later on. Come to think of it, a number of agility people run in knee braces! hmmm.... no wonder I just watch. (So far!)

Looking forward to hearing more about you & Jet!

Hi! About two years ago I started running and ran pretty much for the entire summer and fall. At that time, I got tired of running alone so my husband and I purchased a running companion for me - a male Doberman we named Jet. Of course, Jet was really my husband's dream dog and I was just going to benefit from it.

Well, according to the vet (and my own research), I had to wait until my dog was 2 years old before I can run with him. And of course, by the time the two years were up, I got lazy and stopped running.

So now, Jet is about to turn 2 and is ready to run. I have it in my mind that I AM going to do what I intended to do - Run with my dog Jet - as it has been a long time dream in the making. Both of us would benefit so much from the running and it will bring us closer.

It has been a long time since I ran so we will need to start slow. Jet and I are going to do the Couch 2 5k program so that both of us can train and condition slowly.

Wish us luck. I'm sure Jet will do great....it's me that I'm worried about :)

Edit: Oh yea, lol, I forgot to mention that I also have a chihuahua, named Molly, though I doubt much I'll be walking with her.....she cries and tries to get me to go back home whenever I take her out on a walk. Jet, on the other hand, does not want ever go home when we walk lol.
