Hello, I just wanted to reach out to you when I read about your losing your mother this year. I lost mine (also a short battle with cancer) in 2007, but it feels like yesterday sometimes. I think it is fabulous that you are using your grief to propel you into healthy living. I, on the other hand, spent years in depression after losing Mom and gained a lot of weight during that time.

Congrats, too, on starting back to school for yourself. You have a lot going on, but you will find more and more energy to do it all as you get more and more fit.

Hey everyone! Well, I am not sure where to start. I have struggled with weight most of my adult life, and I feel like it is really time to start thinking differently about it. I am a busy mom of four boys (Chris, 17; Noah, 15; Jonah, 10; and Corbin, 3) I just celebrated my 37th birthday, and this coming year is set to be one full of big changes. I just lost my mom to a short but intense fight with cancer, my oldest son is away for 5 months finishing high school, and I myself am scheduled to go back to school this fall to finish the degree that I started 15 years ago! In all this change, especially coping with the loss of my mom, I really am beginning to understand how critical being healthy is to happiness. I learned that many of my mom's sisters and nieces struggle with health issues ranging from various types of cancer to depression, there have been strokes and heart issues. One thing I know is that I want to maximize my time on this planet and with my family, and a major part of that for me is getting healthy and managing my weight so that I can be the person I feel like on the inside. Lots of bad habits to break, though. I manage a deli, so lots of time around food that isn't great for me, and most days I come home just tired enough to talk myself out of exercising...I really feel like this is the time to get beyond all that and make the changes... Wish me luck?
