Hello Michelle:

I know what you say is true....the question how bad do you want it because if you don't want it badly enough then you simply won't accomplish it. Yes, I am really trying to cut back. My problem is that I have been maintaining my weight now for a good year..so I am not gaining or losing. I just need to get over the hump of losing this weight and then I should be fine maintaining it.

I am training for a half marathon that I am doing the end of the month. 13.1 miles at Disneyland and it would be nice to be a bit lighter than I am today.

Congrats to you and your accomplishment. I saw your Spark page and you look terrific! It will be nice to get to know you and everyone else that logs in here.

Have a good night.

Laura

Hi Laura, glad to see you here. I too decided to look into the 40 something group who had some youngin's.... I hear you about wanting to have 'what you want' at this point in our life (that's how my mom feels at age 71) and it is possible to have what we want....if we just eat a lil less of it.

Have you tried cutting your portions down in size?
Have what you want or a lil less of it?

Sounds like you have a decision to make though, how badly do you want to lose the 20 lbs versus how willing are you to eat less of your treats OR even not have them while you 'lose' the weight you'd like to.

It boils down to what you really want. For me, when I was stuck at 195 (my downfall was due to my height, I could 'hide' my weight, at least in my mind, but not really my 'behind'!!!!)hehehe I was faced with making a decision, do I do what I usually do and stay where I was OR try something different. I decided to try something different and that decision not only got me out of the 190's, it got me down to the 140's!

So how are you enjoying being a mom the 'second' time around? My youngest two were definitely planned. I had had my tubes tied in 1993 and in 2002, I had a tubal reversal and due to God's grace, we had our son and daughter, exactly 19 months apart. Life is definitely different with a household busy with a 5 and 3.5 year old, but I wouldn't have it any other way! Our Harley's can always come later! ;-) I bet your 12 year old loves having the lil sibling. My older kids adore their younger siblings and it is sooo funny to see them (who always moan about 'rules') teaching them about using their manners and to not fight! LOL

Anyhow, nice to see you here and hope to get to know you better.

Your new sp friend

Hello!

I was searching the 40 something threads and came upon this one. So, I thought I join in. I am now 44, with 2 daughters, age 12 and age 4. I got pregnant with my second child a month before my 40th birthday. What a nice surprise it was! I had wanted to be pregnant earlier but it just did not work out that way. I had totally become content that my one child would be my one and only. She has been such a joy!

It has been a struggle to lose the last 20 lbs since I had my child 4 years ago. Weight was always a struggle as I am only 5 ft tall and can't hide any extra weight at this height. The good news is that I don't have a problem working out that I just have a problem sticking to a eating plan. I do well and then I drop off to enjoy my ice cream or have my glass of wine. If I could give it up then I probably would be at a weight that would be good for my height. I know I am taking in too many calories in my day more than not so that is my constant struggle. I used to be really good at not eating the bad stuff but Geez- I am now over 40 and want to enjoy what I want!!!

Ok- enough about that...I am married to my dh for 13 years, and we work in our own business so currently have an office in our home. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Laura

Hello,
I just join this group. I hope you all are still using this group.
I am 43, have four kids, 15, 12 9, and 12 months. My husband and I have been married for 17 years and I have been overweight for most of them. I can't really blame the pregnancies.
I have been enjoying this site.
Hope your still there.

Glad to see both of you here!! It seems that we have things in common and just might be able to help each other along. I am always open to new suggestions.

No I found my way here too. I have been married 17 years we have 3 kids. Ds is almost 15, Dd is 13 and our "surprise" is 18 months. I have been struggling wih losing the baby weight.

Our lifestyles seem simular. I too have a office job. I don't get nearly enough exercise past chasing our daughter. I don't eat much either but I am pretty sure I have insulin resistence. I am trying to tailor my weight loss around less carbs to control my blood sugar.

I guess it's just you and me so far! I have one child, my first and only, born two days after my 40th birthday! (My birthday was my due date.) She is now 3 and will be four in September. I cannot imagine having five of the little devils! She is nearly killing me all by herself, but it's worth it. I'm at 171 and have a fairly small frame. I'm 5'4". In fact, I used to be a size 3, about a dozen years ago! I have some back and foot problems so I'm hoping that losing some of the extra weight might help. My diet is not too bad, could be better, but I do not get enough cardiovascular exercise. I work full-time in front of a computer, and I cannot seem to find a way to fit it in. My dad died of heart disease, and my cholesterol is already high, so I want to make sure I stay healthy long enough to raise my daughter. Happy Monday! I hope this works. It's cheaper than Weight Watchers...
