Hi, my name is Nieci and I am a 36 year old single mother of 2 beautiful children ages 8 & 9 at are at that age where they want me to play and run around with them. I am so happy to have found SparkPeople because i need the motivation that is given on this site to accomplish my goal. I think the hardest part for me is i noticed i am an emotional eater and also very picky, but what I do LOVE i eat a lot of it. for ex. cheese, potatoes, sour cream etc.. I would love any advice or suggestions.

Watching salt intake also trying not to buy foods that have high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

If an item has more than 10 ingredients I put it on the Do Not Buy List as it is too processed.

Hi Mark! Welcome to the team! Both my beau and I were pretty sedentary. He doesn't do well with the heat because of a heatstroke he had when he was younger....I tell him all the time that it burned out his thermostat!
When I decided to start walking and set my goals, he decided that he was doing the same (to the extent he can), he won't make it up to doing a 5k with me by walking, but so far, we have him outfitted to stay as cool as possible and when I am able to go further/longer, we have plans to get him a bike.

I actually started out by what I call shopper dodging, lol, have your shopping list in mind or in hand and go to a familiar store and do your shopping...quickly! The fun part is dodging other shoppers, I have managed to miss everyone so far, including the elderly and very young, heheh! Since I do most of my shopping at Walmart, I take advantage of the big, air conditioned space and will often make an extra trip or two around the perimeter aisle.

You sound like you have a good start with the stairs and biking and along with the already healthy diet, you should do great!

Hi, I am an older man, a father of two, attempting to lose enough weight to be at a goal weight of 235 lbs. I am 57 yrs old and 331 lbs. I have found SparkPeople to be a good motivator. My main problem is being alone and therefore not finding the stimulus to get out and get moving. I am currently doing stairs in my 24 story building and starting to bike and doing walks. I am also actively practicing healthy foods, portion control, and general self body-awareness as well as getting back to exercise. Again, my main problem is to "get Moving" (I've become accustomed to a sedent lifestyle.) Curiously, I am a very good eater. I prefer raw foods and a generally low-fat hi-pro macro-diet, but I simply do not go anywhere or do anything physical. I look forward to blogging with this group. -Mark
