You guys will never believe what I did last night. I have read everybody's suggestions about doing just a little or small changes etc. Well a couple of weeks ago I bought 3 mums and usually I leave them in the containers until they die truthfully. Well last night I thought I'm going to plant them and I did. I got a shovel and tore out the weeds etc that was there and planted the 3 mums. I did a little at a time if it was needed. But the main thing is I keep going. I also realized something I think one of the reasons I don't do things like that is because I might not do it right. But there isn't just necessarily one way to do things and that's ok as long as you get the end product that you want it doesn't have to be perfect. It was empowering. I know to some people it sounds simple but to me it was huge.

Welcome to the team Kimmy! You have been given some good advice. I started slow. I started by logging all my food using the Nutrition Tracker. Go to your start page and go down to your fast break diet and read all the articles. For the first two weeks don't change any of your food. By loggin you will find out how good or how bad your nutrition is. I know it was an eye opener for me! I read all the articles that spark sent me and gee this time they seemed to sink in. I have had good and bad days but most of them have been good.
Good luck with your healthy lifestyle changes.

Hi Kimmy,
I know exactly how you feel. It seems so hard when we have gotten this size and have limited physical abilities. But one small change at a time will lead to another and another. This group is a great one. I have been away for a couple of weeks but there is soo much support. We have all been there.
you are not alone...

Thank you so much for your reply. It is so nice to know that you are not alone. You are so right about finding our what is the most important and weeding out I am slowing beginning to do just that. Always being the super mom and the supwer volunteer that is one of the hardest things that I have to accept at this time. But I try to tell myself there is always something to be thankful for. Thank you again for your kind words and support.

I hope you feel you can turn to SP for help. I love reading all the postings and looking at people's spark pages. Like everyone says: YOU ARE NOT ALONE...we all can relate (in one way or another)to what you are going through. One day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at a time and one second at a time.
Good Luck

Kimmy:

I too have fibromyalgia along with Wegener's Granulomatosis and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. This all started in 2005 when I was 41 yrs old as well. I weighed 240 lbs, had a high-paying job in technology, owned another business and was an active volunteer. The first thing I was diagnosed with was Wegener's - a rare autoimmune disease that attacks your veins. Like all autoimmune diseases, they can manifest in many different ways. For me, my sinuses are all messed up so I have a lot of vertigo and I was rendered legally blind and am now on disability. Since 2005 I've been through a 14 month course of chemo drugs, lost all my hair, and all that fun stuff. I have had 3 "boy we didn't think you were going to make it" medical emergencies since then due to complications of this crazy illness. Then I had this wicked pain (like "don't touch me, I'm serious, I will scream" pain) on top of everything else. That's when I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Then this last Christmas I spent in the hospital with a thyroid that went completely out.

I can tell you that I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. I don't remember 2006 and part of 2007 at all. Really. I was that out of it on medications.

What has helped me is getting hydrated - I drink on average about 12 glasses of water a day now. Compared to about 4 when I started SP a couple of weeks ago. It's made a real difference. I struggle with exercise due to pain (and vertigo and vision issues) but try to do things in little spurts that I feel safe doing. Every little bit helps.

There's nothing nice about fibromyalgia. The only thing that touched the pain for me was Lyrica but I had to stop taking it because of the side effects - it made me so dizzy I walked like a drunken sailor (I wish I was exaggerating but I'm not). I fell down several times. So not worth it! Some people say that anti-depressants work.

I guess the big thing is to do something positive for yourself and acknowledge that you may have to slow down for a bit and take it easy. This was super hard for me - I cannot say I've mastered it yet - but I try. My capacity/endurance has dropped to maybe 10-15% of what it used to be. It does make you sift out the important things in life and not sweat the other stuff.

I think many, many people in this group can relate to your experience - just reach out. We are all in this together.

Hugs,
Jen

Kimmy, YOU CAN DO THIS!!! I promise. As others have said this is not an easy journey, but it is worth the rest of you life! We are all going through this to. We have all been at rock bottom when we thought there was no hope. But I will tell you that you can do anything you want to do! The only requirement is that you believe in yourself! And know that you haven't failed until you stop trying. So I agree get out that journal. When you are feeling the need to binge, ask yourself why? I guarentee that it is not because you are hungry. I am also an emotional eater and a binger. Write down what you eat. As someone else said write down everything. The only one your hurting is yourself so be honest with yourself. Also know that this is not going to be a quick fix. This will take time. Emotional eating will take a life time of work. You have to focus and you have to be aware of this every day. Pay attention and see if there are certain foods that cause you to want to binge and stay away from them.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

One day at a time...one day at a time

Hi Kimmy, you can do this, it is a difficult jouney but it well worth the results. Start small change something this week cut out some junk food start drinking more water go for a short walk just start with one small change and as you feel you've accomplished it add another. Getting around and moving is so very important don't worry if you can't do a lot in the beginning it will get easier start with pledging to walk 3x's for 10 min each and then build up or there are chair exercises if your mobility is limited or any type of water exercises are much easier on your joints. You've taken the first step with coming here and saying you need to something so now time for the second step and make those changes. Good luck.

Hi Kimmy,

Welcome to SP and to this group. It truly is a great and active group with a lot of support. We're all on this journey with it's ups and downs but just know you can 'get off the sidelines' and start living life again.

Kimmy start journaling your thoughts get a pretty little notebook or something you carry with you all the time, in that journal when things get hard and what you feel are out of your control start writing what you feel instead of heading for that drive through. Make some visuals to hang in your car and make it a no eat zone or start trying to that. Carry healthier type snacks that are portioned out and keep them in your car. Start slow by making small changes, change up one bottle water for one bottle of soda or something like that. Use your journal to keep track of everything you eat be honest in your journal, you only cheat yourself if you don't write it all down. If you are truely wanting to make this change start small, locate a good support group. I belong to TOPS CLUBS, they are non profit and run about 5 a month in dues and 26 annually and you get a magazine with lots of cool articles. Look up a chapter at www.tops.org. You can find some good friends there who are on the same journey as you are. The support is awesome. I too am an emotional eater and you can get your own control back. Preplan your meals once you get there it will help. If you want a buddy, please don't hesitate reach out. I have yahoo instant messenger and am on alot of the time. My im - evpookie@yahoo.com which is also my email. Please feel free to contact me... I've lost 40# in the past few months my fears is gaining back because i always struggle the only difference is i'm journaling when i'm angry, happy and sad. I take time each day to do it. Because I look in the mirror and know I am worth the effort. I love myself daily and know I can do it, that I have the power in me for that moment in my day to do it. I may have a hard time making that choice and may make a wrong one but it is always up to me to stop the cycle or continue it when i emotionally eat. so Kimmy you can do this you have someone here who believes you can achieve this success!!! Impossible is not in my vocabulary.

Kimmy yes you can do this!! I'm here for you!

Hi, my name is Kimmy. I guess my story is no different than alot of other peoples. I never imagined that I would be 41 and weigh over 300lbs and need a total knee replacement at my age. I have been told if I don't get my weight under control I will probably not be able to have the mobility to walk in 10-15 years. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2 weeks ago and can hardly function. I am too young to feel like this. I have a wonderful, athletic 15 year old daughter who I should be enjoying and I am sitting on the sidelines watching my life pass me by. So what do I do. I feel sorry for my self and hit the nearest drive thru as if that instant gratification is going to fix anything. Then after stuffing all the emotions with food I have made my problems worse. I feel out of control and I don't even know where to begin. I hurt so bad. I used to love to walk and do things it the yard and now it is everything I can do to work my 8 hour shift at work. My aunt has told my about spark people and this is my last hope.
