I forgot to add that I went to a running store after a week of the "bad" new shoes, and got good ones but still have the pain. I also went ahead and ordered the shoes that were the BEST for me for 8 months (the ones that wore down). They should be arriving in a few days. I can't wait and hope that I made the right decision to do that. Hopefully between having another set of even better for me shoes, and meeting with my doctor in a couple weeks, I can get my foot pain resolved soon. I wish I had been able to just buy another pair of the shoes I had for 8 months when I got new ones but they had just stopped selling them in the stores. I hate that! lol

I too am an"expert" with foot pain. I suffer from chronic plantar fasciitis. I had surgery on my right foot to receive some of the pain. It still hurts, just in a different place. It doesn't seem to matter if I run or walk or just sit around, my feet hurt. Sigh. So, I run, slowly and only three times a week at most. I get fitted for shoes at a running store and I am very careful about other shoes to wear.

Properly fitting shoes. I finally got myself to the running store for properly fitting shoes. My new shoes are one and a half sizes bigger then the shoes I had been wearing.

Welcome! Oh boy do I know foot problems. The worst. I have had to be fitten with orthotics. Hard inserts that go under a pad in my shoes. Best thing I ever did. No more foot pain. I also went to a running shoe store. Had to travel for 4 hours to get to one but it was worth it to be able to get proper shoes for my foot type. I bought two pairs of shoes and I rotate them andkeep track of the hours. Between 300 and 500 hours it will betime for new shoes. Hard for me to get used to getting new shoes when the old ones don't have any holes! So important for our feet!

Hi Bonnie!

Nice job with the weightloss!! you should be very proud of yourself!! Sounds like what happened to you happened to me as well - shoes that hurt on the inside. Are you flat-footed by any chance? I am, and pronate like crazy (my feet roll in as I have no arch to support them being straight)...shoes are the MOST important thing for me, so after not listening to my feet for a long while, I got wise, and always go to a running store for fittings to make sure they are doing what I needed them to.

Glad to have you here:)

Hugs,
Trish

Hi everyone, my name is Bonnie. I have been on Spark People (for the third and final time) for 14 months now and have lost 109 pounds so far.

Back in April I started a Couch to 5K program and got about three weeks into it before going on vacation, which I took a break from it since I was in a new area and didn't want added stressors to my exercise plan. I came back and my shoes started really wearing out on the insides. Due to that and choosing the wrong shoes when I finally got new ones a few weeks later, I have been dealing with a foot pain issue on the outer sides of my feet and haven't been able to run again yet.

HOWEVER, I'm really hoping to be able to run by the end of the month to start training for a 10K happening on Thanksgiving, and I will be doing a half marathon in May 2016. I really miss running. There is no way to describe the feeling except just feeling free and like a kid again when I'm running. I never liked running as a kid though but it feels so carefree and fun to push myself in that way, go faster than walking. I miss running after my nephews when I take them to the park too. I can't wait until my feet heal and I can do it again. It's been 7 1/2 weeks of this so far and it's wearing on me.

I'm joining this team because once I can run again, I want to have a place to ask questions and for now can do my best to root on other people on here and pass along what little wisdom I've learned so far. I learned that good breathing rhythm is so essential, and good form is awesome because it lowers the impact on joints and lowers the risk of injury. There is an article here on SP, something like 7 tips for good running form, and I learned so much from that. It made me a better runner while I was running.
