Congratulations on your new sport. I started running about three years ago..... at 30 seconds at a time....... walk/run/walk/run. And now run most days. Signing up for a 5K is a great motivator. Finding a running partner or group is also very helpful. Have fun and enjoy the great outdoors.

Hi! I'm newish to Spark and really new to running. I love the smartphone app Zombies, Run! It's designed for runners, but can totally be used for walkers. I figured I'd walk the whole series - I always used to joke that I would only run if *real* zombies were chasing me. :) However, their 5k app is set in between seasons 1 and 2, and they have several "race" episodes for 5K, 10K, and 20K. Since I am completely engrossed by the story I couldn't skip the "in between" stories, so I decided I'd give it a try.

I've been "running" for a week and a half. I put it in quotes because the longest stretch I've run is 30 seconds at a stretch. I'm working through

However, in a burst of insanity/optimism (not sure there's much of a distinction there ;) I've signed up for a 5k in October. I figured it would be a good incentive to keep me from giving up on the actual running part. I'll probably be haunting this forum looking for tips - I already stumbled across the penguin thread, which I LOVED. The idea of being a penguin but still being "allowed" to run is pretty ground-breaking for me. So, thanks in advance and I'm grateful to be here.
