Hi, I'm Rosie and I'm English but moved to Ohio two years ago. My Gran taught me to knit when I was about 5 which means I've been doing this for 40 years! I actually can't remember learning it was so long ago. I'm making baby clothes (for a friend), a sweater for myself and there's probably some socks on the go. I have a few things finished but not sown up yet - a very bad habit!

I am on Vancouver Island. I learned to knit at about age 8 in Brownies. Knit intermittently until about 2007, when I picked up the needles in earnest. I started spindling 2 years ago and love that too.

I just finished a big boring grey sweater for my husband. As a reward for getting that off my needles, I've started two projects for me and one for my MIL. Projects for me are a dark blue bamboo-wool shawl and a bright red sweater of mohair-wool-silk. The project for my MIL is a shrug of unidentified lavender acrylic. Which I wouldn't normally knit with, but my husband found this half-finished sweater in amongst her belongings. There wasn't enough yarn to finish the sweater, and it was rather poignant, as she obviously started it just as her dementia was taking over. She now lives in an extended care facility, and I would like to return the yarn to her. Lavender is her favourite colour.

Oh - and this week I started the TKGA Master Knitter program! I do love a challenge. :)

Hi there!

I'm Ame, 35, and have been knitting (self taught) since I was about 24 or 25. I consider myself an expert level knitter and frequently make my own patterns and charts when I can't find something that suits me.

Right now on my needles is a pair of bamboo/wool cabled leg warmers (for keeping my calves warm during bike rides this fall) and a cashmere cabled scarf that features the spider from Barbara Walker's 3rd Treasury and cabled "web" traveling the length of the scarf.

I just finished making a bear paw hat for my husband and wolf paw/wolf hat for my older daughter. I'm hoping for no more hat requests as I'd like to get some things done for myself! :)

I grew up in eastern PA, moved to N. Dakota, and now live in Maryland. My heart will always belong to the Midwest and I hope to move back there, perhaps MN or WI, in the next couple years as I really detest the east coast. I enjoy reading, cooking, and playing MMOs in addition to knitting and a slew of other crafts. I have a house FULL of animals and kids and I work as a medical transcriptionist.

Nice to meet everyone!

My name is Bethany. I just moved with my husband and son to Washington state. We are living with my SIL until our house in Boston sells. We've been here about 6+ weeks. I am knitting a weekend jacket, several scarves, sweater for my son. I am crocheting a bedspread and trying to finish a latch hook rug.

I joined SP over a year ago but never followed through. Hopefully this is the season to do it. I just turned 40 and my weight is just rising!

Hello, My name is Kristy, I am 48, a mother of 3 daughters and grandmother of 3 boys.
I am new to all this and am trying to figure it out, I would welcome any tips and tricks! I think this will be great for helping stay on track and getting much needed support.
I am currently working on a crochet-a-long mystery Afghan, and have some plastic canvas christmas projects going.
I am looking forward to getting started on my new eating and exercise changes.

Hi!! I'm Deni, from Canon City, CO...I just started knitting in March. It was my birthday party for myself. I am married for almost 15 years to my best friend. We have a combination of 3 kids and one grandkid. I am a 911 dispatcher for the Florence PD/Fremont county, and I work graves. I am just now starting on my Christmas afghans now. And trying to get into class to learn to knit socks. emoticon

Hi, I'm Pattie. I've been heavy ALL of my life, and swore I'd never diet again. So then I found SP and THIS will be my last time. I live in Virginia and am an avid knitter. Too bad it doesn't burn more calories! emoticon

Good Morning All,

My name is Sheila. I am from Watertown CT. I have been married for 37yrs and have 4 grown children 2 dogs and 1 cat. I have been knitting for 50 years and am attempting to learn to spin.

I have been struggling with my weight and fitness and though I am a lifetime member of WW I need to try a new approach. A good friend recommended Sparkpeople, so here I am.

I hope to learn by sharing.

Have a great day all.

Good Morning All. My name is Sarah and I live in Baltimore, Maryland. I originally joined SP back in 2005 when I was loosing weight for my wedding, which never happened. I have been back this time for about 3 weeks now. About a month ago, I decided to give up soda, I was drinking so much soda and just one day realized it. So I pretty much switched to water and have not looked back. Whats crazy is that now I'm on this water kick, I can't even drink anything else...it all seems sooo sweet. Since switching over to water and coming back to SP. I have lost 11 pounds. I almost can't believe it myself. It keeps me motivated to stick with it.

A few more things about me. I am a mother of 2. My daughter is 11 and my son will be 2 in November. I have been a cross-stitcher for about 13 years, but I recently learned how to Crochet, and it has been addicting. I have made 4 blankets, and I'm working on the 5th one now as well as a doily.

I look forward to chatting with all of you.

Sarah

Hello from Illinois... I have been a Spark member since June and I've been knitting for 3 years. My Ravelry I.D. is claykeeper (I also make pottery).

I'm better at my hobbies than I am at losing weight ! So far I'm yo-yoing with 11 lbs and have a lot more to go. I look forward to our journey together ...

Hi! I'm Lorrie from Kansas, just joined this team. I've been knitting and crocheting for as long as I can remember. Crochet was my main needle craft until about 8 years ago when knitting pulled ahead. I would rank myself as advanced but definitely NOT expert - working on it!

Hi, I'm from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and I've just joined this forum.

I enjoy all kinds of handwork/crafts: quilting, sewing, knitting, tatting, traditional rug hooking, spinning, etc. I just love the feel of fibre in my hands. I also dye wool fabric and yarn...and am learning to dye cotton. I use commercial and natural dyes.

Right now I am knitting my way through "The Knitter's Almanac" by Elizabeth Zimmermann. I'm a bit behind schedule due to so much company this summer. But I hope to finish it...if not this year then next. I'm currently knitting the Mystery Blanket for April! :( Should finish it soon.

I'm also knitting Christmas presents for my family for this year. I finished a headband and scarf from my homespun yarn for my youngest daughter. And some socks for her boyfriend.

My eldest daughter wants a shrug. I do not think I'll be able to spin enough homespun for that. I was going to make it from some alpaca I blended with wool. But she wants it to be green or purple. I'm not sure how the beige alpaca will turn out it I try to overdye it. I haven't decided what to make her husband yet. I was going to make texting gloves, but she says he doesn't need them. I've made him a hat and scarf before...

I am currently knitting my hubby a yoked sweater, a la Elizabeth Zimmermann style in "Knitting Around".

I'm in Western Massachusetts. I've been knitting just about 20 years. What I consider myself depends on how one defines the terms. No matter how many swatches I make, I can't seem to knit clothing that fits me (I don't have that problem for charity knitting for an anonymous person). But I enjoy the challenge of learning new stitches and tend to make "novelty" items, such as cats, handbags, and other things where gauge doesn't matter. Making items for felting is even better, as I don't even have to care what the stitches look like. :-)

Thank you CintaChakra for inviting me to the team. I think I was on this team a long time ago and left. It's nice to see such different activity. I'm one of the moderators of the Ravelry group Sparkpeople Knitters so you are all welcome to join us there too.

My name is Amy and I'm an archaeologist and professor in Florida. I'm a mom of a toddler son and married to the best guy ever. I've been on SP since before I was pregnant; lost weight, gained baby, lost weight again. I have 15 more lbs to lose. I've been knitting for about 3 or 4 years now and am addicted. I have made a huge number of friends here and get together every Friday night at our LYS for knitting and chatting until 11 or so when I can't stay awake any longer. It's a lot of fun.

Hi my name is Tiffany and I'm from Oregon. I've been knitting for six years and consider myself intermediate but I don't let that stop me from trying anything! I love to knit although now that I have three children, one of them being only 7 weeks old, I don't get as much time with hands free to knit. :)

My name is Wendy, I live in Viera,Fl. My husband(Lennie) & I moved to Fl from Ill in 1991. We now live in a 55+ community!
I learned the basic knit & purl stitches when I was 14yrs old, but never took a real interest in knitting. 2 yrs ago while walking through the Walmart craft dept I saw a pattern for a simple scarf. I thought....I could knit that. I've been knitting scarves ever since....& now knit scarves for the charity SWAP(Scarves with a purpose).

Hi everyone, my name is Chrissy and I'm from Mercer, PA, which is halfway between Pittsburgh and Erie. I lived in Erie for two years and LOVED it, and was sad to move away to my current location of Bel Air, MD, near Baltimore.

I've been knitting for a little over a year. I am very much a beginner. I like to make coasters and dishcloths and I'm also working on a crescent shaped kitty bed that can be found on Knitting Pattern Central.

I wanted to knit because I'm not artistic at all (I can't paint or draw) but I wanted to make things. I wanted a creative hobby that I could learn to do.

My boyfriend's mother taught me how to cast on, knit, and bind off. I taught myself to purl and a few increases using The Knit Witch YouTube videos. Her videos are the best.

It's very nice to meet everyone, please stop by my page and say hello if I look interesting :-) Have a lovely day!

Hi all, I'm realitivly new also(about 6 months). I have not figured out how to join challanges. Can anyone help with that. I have read lots of post and people will talk about joining them but still not sure where they are going to join.
I live in South Jersey. I have 5 children and 4 grandchildren who are the love of my life and the object of much knitting and crochetting. I knit and crochet depending on my mood (also quilt but that's another story)
I am walking after having both knees replaced so I can get back in shape. Trying to use Spark People to it's optimun but don't always have the time to post exercise or food however writing it down and recording it at work. I joined a walk/run challange at work that goes from 4-9 to 10-16.

Hey guys!
Just wanted to pipe in that there is nothing wrong with crocheters hanging out here too! (You just won't see as many resources being posted for crochet).

I crochet too, just depends on my mood and whether or not I want to hold onto needles or hooks!

Good for you Kelly. I also think it is great that you work for the SPCA shelter. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and I'd love to join a Stick'nBitch. A friend and I created a club called the Wandering Woolies last winter. We met to knit/crochet at a different coffee house each Thursday night. It was fun but we need to expand our membership. I think I'll try it again this fall.

Hey all,

My name's Kelly, I live in Auckland, New Zealand with my hubby and two cats. I work for the local SPCA shelter. Starting on Spark at 88kg, am now at 84kg and hoping to get down to 60kg.

I'm currently knitting some funky legwarmers... I get together with girls from work every Wed night for Food and wine (not anymore - I wait until I get home to eat) and knit! It's so much fun, we call it Stitch'n'Bitch.

I'm trying to lose weight in the hopes that it'll help me conceive (been trying for two years now, had a miscarriage back in Jan) and because I'm sick of the way I look.

Looking forward to getting to know you all :)

hi, i just read your note, many thanks to your husband for all he is doing for our country. it is a rough job to voluhnteer for but i cannot think of any job that is more important to our freedom. thanks again.
i am a 2nd timer, a few years ago i lost 40 lbs i kept it off for a few months then stopped going to the sparkpeople web site to keep motivated and i started a new medication, It gave me cravings and i did not have any control with eating and before i realized it i had regained all of my weight. unfortunately the med was working and i couldn't stop taking it.
iam motivated again i hope i can keep it under control. i think it is great to chat with other folks with similar interests. i have been knitting x a few years, have made a scaarf or two, a few sweaters, i think i would like to make some socks anyone with any tips are they difficult?

Hi! I'm from PA, and I'm still learning to knit. Basically just working on scarves since I understand how to do those. I would really like to learn how to do blankets and clothing for babies, because I read about a non-profit organization that donates these to hospitals. I would love to be part of that.

Hi all, I'm new here, both to SparkPeople and the Knitters group. I'm 24, married to a military man and decided that while he's overseas I'd use the time to lose the weight(100+ pounds)and get healthy. I am the definition of a novice knitter - in about 2 years of knitting I have made two scarves, both in garter stitch, and that's it. I figure I'll pick it up again to pass the time and keep my mind off loneliness (and food!). So my big knitting goal for the month is to master purling so I can actually make something in stockinette!

I am from Eastern Washington and have been knitting for about 10 years. I taught myself to knit and crochet. Recently my focus has been stuffed animals and toys and I have started a shop on etsy.
Next I'm going to tackle a sweater.
I would consider myself to be an intermediate knitter.

Hi To Both New Members
emoticon to the team and happy knitting. It is a little "warm" here in FL to be knitting but I just stay in the ac to keep cool.
Happy knitting.

Hi Everyone,
I am new to Sparkpeople, and I am very impressed of what I see so far. I am eager to meet new people, and learn new things.
I taught myself how to knit about 2 years ago. Still not that great, but my fun fur scarves seem to be a big hit.
I live in PA, and have 2 children, 7 and 4 and I am a stay home Mom. I am currently knitting a blanket for Project Linus. I haven't worked on it in a while, but tend to start again this week. But, it's coming along. I'm hoping to be done it by this Christmas...lol.
Anyway, I am looking forward to being part of this team, and meeting all of you. TTYS :-)

Hi! I am new here & still a somewhat new knitter. July was my one year knitterversary. I am from Florida and it is so HOT outside right now. I am currently knitting some black & white striped socks for my boyfriend with yarn that I dyed myself.

@ CITRUSPINE

Thank you for the kind welcome. I am looking forward to using knitting as one of the things to keep my mind off of food next year as I find it very therapeutic, plus I live in the north of the UK where I will be needing a warm scarf and some thick woollen socks!

Hi all!!

I'm new, been using Livestrong to track my daily calories but I really want something a bit more supportive because motivation is my biggest stepping stone.

I'm 22 and desperate to lose about 15 pounds. I have really bad eating habits and I dislike exercise - but I have vowed to myself to start running using the couch to 5K programme.

I'm counting on you guys to keep me motivated!

I was taught to knit by my grandmother when I was very young but since she passed away I have taken it up again and am trying to teach myself how to knit beyond scarves!

I'm from the UK by the way...

Hi, I'm from new Jersey, and the mother of three grown children. My oldest lives close, my middle child lives in China and my youngest is in his last year of college. In 6 months my oldest daughter will give birth to my first grandchild. That should happen 2 weeks after my niece has her first baby. Needless to say, my knitting needles are flying.
