Hi Y'all! I'm April, I am 33 and live in a small town about an hour north of Dallas. I have a teenage daughter who is 13 and a little boy who will be 3 next week. My hubby is a Fire fighter/Paramedic and has a weird schedule. He's also an entertainer. That's how I'm able to stay home with our kids. ;)

I had previously done weightwatchers and had some great success with it, however, we're needing to cut down extras and it was 40$ month we needed elsewhere. I've lost almost 17lbs since November, and I have about 55lbs left to lose. I want to be the hot mama and a role model to my children that they're proud of. I also want to be able to go into any store and take something off the rack and wear it. Right now I'm in between plus size and regular. Which is totally nerve racking.

I just learned how to knit last month and I'm addicted. There is a cute local shop in my town that gives free lessons, and I've been knitting in their block of the month club. It's tons of fun.

I look forward to chatting with y'all and losing this weight!
Best Wishes!
April

My name is Terri, I am 47 and I live in Oregon. I have three teenagers (son 15, daughter 17 & 19) a grandson (1-1/2 years old) and my husband travels for work. I have always battled my weight, and I have finally figured out that I need to organize myself, like myself and be comfortable with who I am to be successful. I can't wait for my family to do what I want, I just have to do it for myself!!!

I was very lucky growing up, my two great grandmothers spent time teaching me many handcrafts. It was almost a competition wih them. I have knitted in spurts throughout my life, but have recently picked it up again. I have signed up for my first knitting class ever (that was an eye opener) and right now I am knitting a sweater. I am hoping to learn how to sew it together correctly and how to size patterns. Its been fun so far.

HI all! I'm from Chicago, living in Indiana right now, well I've lived all over. I learned to knit while living/working in the bush of Alaska about 5 years ago. Wasn't too much to do with out television, phone, internet and such so I picked it up from one of the girls there. I've knitted a blanket that I just adore. I've tried booties and such for my cat and just can't get it right. I want to learn how to do purses and all that business. I'm an amateur. But hey if you need a scarf or blanket (or anything flat) I'm queen at that stuff. I love that there is a team like this!

Hi! I'm in northern MN where it's FREEZING! BRRRR!

I've been crocheting for about 7 years. Just started knitting about 2 years ago, so I would consider myself a beginner. So far, I've made a scarf, a baby hat, and a poncho. Have started a couple other projects--a shawl and another poncho--that didn't turn out and have since re-started them! LOL! Not ready to try sweaters or socks yet, but maybe someday!

I was born and raised in Massachusetts, but hopped over the border to New Hampshire 10 years ago when my husband got transferred. I've been knitting about 25 years. My mom tried to teach me as a child but I didn't really get it. I picked it up myself in my early 20's. I would consider myself a confident intermediate

I have made socks, bags, and baby items as well as sweaters. I have done entrelac, but not lacework yet.

Well, I am a newbie. Woohoo.. I am from Pocatello, ID... woohoo the land of potatoes. I live probably about an hour away from where Napoleon Dynamite was filmed.
I have been around knitting my whole life. I don't think I can ever think of a time of not seeing my mom knitting. She is always knitting. She even teaches knitting classes. She helps people correct their mistakes over the phone. You know you gotta be good if you can do that. I don't think I even have mastered fixing a dropped stitch. I usually just rip it out and start over or if I am too far into it... I call my mom to help. So, hmmm I have been knitting off and on now for about 10 years. Mind you, I usually have it set away in a closet and pull it out when I feel like I need to work on it. So, pretty much when I get bored with it is when I get rid of it and make it go into the closet. LOL So, I would describe my self as a beginner/intermediate. I am in between stages. My mom taught me how to knit a sock on only a circular needle. I must say that is soo much easier than the four needles. I have made scarfs, hats, blankets, etc. I am trying to motivate myself to knit a sweater for my mother for Xmas this year. I figure I gotta get on it now or it will never happen. So, if any one has any free sites that have some pretty great patterns let me know. Thanks.. oh by the way my name is Laura.

Do your Best & God will do the rest.

The job's not done till the tool's are put away.

I am from southwest ohio. I was born a buckeye and have not moved more than a few hours from the town that I was born in. My mom taught me to knit when I was in 3rd grade, trying to develop my small motor skills so I could print and cursive better. I know how to knit but you still can not read my writing.

I am a intermediate knitter trying to force myself to learn more and try more advanced patterns. But I too like to make easier patterns so as not to task my brain too much LOL

the projects that I like to work on the most are the prayer shawls that I make for church. They bring about so much joy. I try to make at least one for church each month. we have 7 ladies and so far in 2 years we have made and given over 90 shawls. It is a wonderful ministry

I'm Natalie from Oklahoma. I've done time in Cali and Mizry too. I learned to knit (and crochet) 35 years ago but didn't really do much with it until I started having kids in the 80's. Didn't become a fanatic until about 5 years ago.

A group I am in did a quiz that told the "level" you were knitting at and I was "advanced". Our list doesn't have advanced and I'm definitely not an expert so we'll go with intermediate. Advanced was between intermediate and expert on the quiz we did. Wish I still had it so I could forward it to you guys!

Other than knitting, my interests are homeschooling, horses, books, scrapping, movies and music. I have 5 kids and 3 grandkids and one long-suffering husband.

Hello All!

I'm Alli from Edmonton, AB, Canada. I have been an off-and-on knitter since my Dutch Grandmother taught me around the age of 10. That same year she showed me the basics of crocheting too. I am currently addicted to crochet since my Mum-In-Law and Sister-In-Law are both Fiber Artists and bloggers with b5 Media.

I joined up with SparkPeople just before the New Year when my Husband's Best Friend found this site. I have successfully lost around 45 lbs since our wedding last May. My amazing Husband is also down around 55 lbs! We're making better life choices and have discovered the wonders of exercising together at our local YMCA (which is brand new!).

I was born in Iowa, but have spent the least amount of there my life. I am a military brat, so lived in many good portions of the south. I claim Arizona as my home though.
I married a wonderful man, that was already a father of three. I became instant mom, then decided to add to the mix. So I raise four wonderful kids, who get all my beginning knitting projects.
Right now, we live in Bitburg Germany. We will be here for the next 4 years, hopefully more.
I started knitting in 06, but didn't really get into it until summer of 07. Since moving to Germany, I have found great need for knitted items, so trying to get better and faster. It still takes me a very long time to knit a single project, no matter how small....

Hi! I'm Molly, from Iowa. I'm currently in college (my fourth year) studying Materials Engineering and Chinese. And oh yeah, I'm addicted to knitting. To the point where I had to leave my knitting supplies at someone else's house in order to get my homework done.

I'm here at sparkpeople.com because I need to lose some weight. My goal is to lose about 50 pounds or so. I have never been successful at losing weight before, but this place seems to have the positive attitude, plus the tools to keep me disciplined. I also love the community attitude that groups like this give to the dieting/fitness experience.

I've been knitting for only about 15 months, but I went through a time where I became a little obsessive and knitted CONSTANTLY:) As a result, I've already developed a slight case of carpal tunnel, hooray! I considere myself an intermediate...I can do the cables and follow pretty much any pattern I've tried (albeit I haven't had the guts to try anything too crazy) however I have never really done any colorwork besides double knit. I'm really looking forward to discussing and sharing knitting with all of you!

Hi everyone.

I am Jabi from Nairobi, Kenya. I was born and live here. I thought I was an expert knitter, until I saw the things people came up with.. so I guess that makes me an intermediate knitter who loves knitting and crocheting challenges. I am grateful to the internet's exposure to all the different ways of knitting, and currently love knitting lace.

In Kenya, we don't have alot of variety when it comes to yarns, we mainly have acrylic yarn, but I have found it also works for lace, so I am enjoying myself.

I found SP through another site, cannot remember which, but was glad to find there were knitters out there..

Hi there: Born in England, I'm now a Canadian from the City of Victoria in Beautiful British Columbia. I started knitting at about the age of 7, so have enjoyed the craft for some 44 years (my goodness, time flies). I consider myself an intermediate knitter; however, I can be advanced... when I put my mind to it and concentrate!

Hi everyone!

I'm Karen, born and raised in NY. I'm 34, married, and have a 14 week old daughter at home.

My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was about 8, and my mom taught me to knit a few years later.

I would consider myself a low-intermediate knitter. My big goal this winter is to really learn how to knit socks. I love socks!!!

I am also working on my Masters in Knitting from TKGA, but I think I may accept defeat and start with a simplier class.

OK, now that I don't have a killer migraine, I think I can be friendly.

My mom tried to teach me to knit once when I was 8 or 9 but I just couldn't get into it. So about 7 months ago I picked up a kit at Wally and haven't stopped since! Even finishing the baby's quilt is on hold! lol!

But in that 7 months I have learned tons of stuff, including that I absolutely love doing cables!

Hi, I'm Jessica from Fargo, ND. I have been knitting for 125 days. I started knitting to replace the habit of smoking when I quit. 10/10/2007. I read a book, and taught myself the knit purl. I have taken a class to learn on the round, and I have successfully finished, three baby blankets. and a noni felt bag, and cell phone purse. As well as a scarf. I have also begun a hat, another scarf, and am looking towards socks. I would say I am a novice, but completely addicted to knitting, I wish there were more time in the day to knit.

Goal1: Stay on Track!!!!
Goal 2:Consistently exercise, and stay active. At least three times per week.

It's a long road but I've got my walking shoes on. Is anyone with me?

I live near Canton, OH and have lived in Ohio all of my life except for a brief stint in Boston.

This is ashame, but I cannot remember when or how I learned to knit. I've knit off and on for 20 years, and only picked it back up in the last year and a half, but am addicted. Funny story - about 18 years ago I knit an islandic sweater for my boyfriend (now husband). I must have reknit the yoke at least 3 times - the stranding was kicking my rear end! So, I gave it to him only to find that it didn't really fit him, and turns out it didn't fit me either, so the darn thing sat in his closet for 15 years untouched. I'm not sure what spurred it, but I finally decided to frog the whole thing, figuring I could reuse the yarn. So far I've made 2 hats, 3 sets of wrist warmers, 2 boxes, and I've barely made a dent!

I'd rate myself somewhere in the intermediate range - I am slow, and still have challenges knitting to gauge which drives me nuts.

Jean

Hi, I've lived in Claremore, OK since I was 9 years old almost 35 years. My grandma taught me to cast on stitches when I was about 3 years old and I started knitting dishclothes around 5 years old. Knitted off and on over the years but really picked in up seriously about 4 years ago. I would consider myself intermediate to advanced. I working on my Master's in knitting right now.

I was born in Anaheim, California in 1966. I now live in Corona, California. I am very happily married to a wonderfully supportive man. I have diet-controlled diabetes and metabolic syndrome (Syndrome X).

I love to knit and crochet and a lot of what I knit and crochet is donated to various charities. I really love to knit socks.

Hi All!

I was born in Ohio, lived most of my mid to late childhood in North Carolina, and moved to the Boston area for college and have never managed to leave again! :)

I've been knitting for 3-4 years, and I'd consider myself a fearless intermediate. :) I'll try any pattern, I love knitting complex openwork/lacy things and playing with cables. I've finally knitted both socks and a sweater. I didn't really have a long scarf phase because I was intrigued with interesting stitch patterns. I particularly love playing with Barbara Walker's Stitch Treasuries. I haven't ever done colorwork, I haven't ever really designed my own patterns, and I still have trouble fixing mistakes in openwork, so I've got a long way to go before I'd call myself an expert.

Glad to be here!

~ Elise

I am from northern IL - about an hour west of Chicago. I've been knitting for about 14 years. I used to knit just dishcloths, but in the last 3-4 years or so I've branched out and have been trying a lot of different things. I would consider myself an intermediate knitter, who has very high potential for being an expert knitter.

I have also been crocheting for about 10 years. I prefer crochet because it goes a lot faster. But knitting looks a lot more 'professional' and has more variety - I like variety!

I am "FROM" TX, but I live in TN now. I have been knitting for about 12 years off and on (mostly on) and I would consider myself an intermediate knitter. There is still alot to learn. I have never made anything without a pattern and I am getting ready to start the civil war shawl (with the Yahoo group), but after reading some of the posts on that group, I have to say, I am afraid I may have bitten off more than I can chew...not that it will stop me from trying, but I doubt I will keep up with everyone else.

I do this so this world will know that it will not change me. -Garth Brooks

I've lived in Kansas for the past 40 years, but grew up in North Dakota. I learned to knit in Home Ec class when I was 12, so I've been knitting nearly 50 years (Oh MY!!!). I knit what I like and whatever the mood that hits me. I've done complete doll wardrobes on size 1 needles to the arctic sweaters with the deer leaping on the back to the quick simple things.

Just love to knit :)

I grew up in Rhode Island, but have lived in Fla. since 1987. I learned to knit when I was about 8 or 9. I got a wild hair one day and decided I wanted to knit a sweater, so I did. I'm a beginner. I don;t know how to change colors etc. I actually just picked up my needles again last year and have been slowly working on some squares.

Blessings! Dee

I'm from Perth in Western Australia. I learnt to knit when I was about 8 but only did scarves and squares as I couldn't read a pattern. About 25 years ago my friend taught me how to read the patterns and I've been making things from lacy pattern to cable to fairisle ever since. I'm useless at knitting with 4 or 5 double pointed pins though. I don't know where I would be in your grading scale maybe intermediate to advanced but I'm not sure if I would call myself an expert.

I live in Michigan - though I do not say that I'm FROM Michigan - and I've been knitting for about 3.5 years. I'm somewhere in the beginner/intermediate stage, probably closer to intermediate if I tried. :)

I'm mostly a cross-stitching with a knitting problem. My mom taught me to knit while I was recovering from RSI from too much cross-stitching. Thus, I learned on big huge size 15 needles because it was all I could hold. When my hands act up now, I go back to those large sized needles and work on something that allows me to feel productive with my time without hurting!

I'm from Tennessee and have lived here my whole life (unless you count a month in San Francisco;)). I've been knitting for about 15 years and knit in any spare moment I can find! I would consider myself an intermediate knitter.

I'm from Asheville, NC, but have lived in the Bay Area in California (9 years), Dallas, TX (2 years), and now Knoxville, TN (4 years so far). I've been knitting for 2 1/2 years, and I guess I'd probably call myself a beginner knitter (though maybe I'm intermediate, I'm not sure how those are delineated!).

I have lived in Michigan all my life, learned to knit when I was about 10 and I think I'm an intermediate knitter, although I'm a lazy knitter. If I can find a project with minimal pieces and stitches, I'd rather use that.

I live in Madoc, Ontario (small town north of Bay of Quinte area on Lake Ontario). I have moved around abit - Alberta, PEI, Tennessee and several places in Ontario. I have been knitting for 30+ years and am intermediate to expert - though I am a pattern follower and not creative to make up patterns. I have knit everything from lace tablecloths on circular to sweaters to afghans. Also enjoy crocheting and all needlework.

Run with patience the race that is set before you.

I live in Mississauga, Ontario (near Toronto). Originally from Newfoundland, and lived in Scotland for 4 years. I have been knitting for about 25 years and would consider myself intermediate. i will try anything once as long as I don't read the pattern ahead of time and scare myself.

I am living in Coquitlam BC (near Vancouver) originally from Edmonton Alberta. I have been knitting since I was 7 - originally I learned the european way (sort of like crocheting) and then I learned the British way. I guess as I am in my 50's that would put me at expert level - I knit anything although I have not done much knitting with my own patterns.

I am from Gettysburg, PA. I have been kniting for nearly 53 years. I guess I am an expert although that doesn't sound to humble. The English lady who taught me how to knit was a survivor of the Titanic.

I'm from Northern California (Rohnert Park) I have only been knitting for about a year. I am extremely slow and consider myself to be an extreme novice. Pretty much all I have made is a few scarves but I would like to branch out.

In this thread please let us know: Where you are from, how long you've been knitting, and do you consider yourself a novice, beginner, intermediate, expert?

Thanks for sharing!
