i am working on a few scarves and shawls now. if you go to the general discussion thread there is one for what members are working on. There is also a daily chat thread there if you want to see what more are doing daily

Everybody tells me that they would love to knit, but they don't have time. I look at people's lives and I can see opportunity and time for knitting all over the place. The time spent riding the bus each day? That's a pair of socks over a month. Waiting in line? Mittens. Watching TV? Buckets of wasted time that could be an exquisite lace shawl. ~Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much A true friend reaches for your hand but touches your hea

What are you working on? I am knitting socks and an afghan. Just trying to use up some yarn!! My next project will be a monkey with long arms and legs so that I can put velcro on them and it can hug the little boy who will be getting him.

Welcome. I have so much stash that over half is now in storage while we try to sell the house and the other half is in containers divided between two closets. LOL

Hi. I'm Susan and I live in eastern Massachusetts. I taught myself to knit in 1986 from a Marshall Cavendish magazine published in the UK. I've been, at times, prolific. Lately life doesn't allow quite as much knitting time as it once did. I currently have a pair of socks on the (magic loop) needles for my 8 year old daughter. Stash busting has been my primary mission for the past 10 years but I'm not making speedy progress on that goal (see previous reference, 8 year old). :) These days when I indulge in unnecessary yarn purchases it tends to be when I travel. I like to grab a single skein of fingering or sport that's been hand spun or hand dyed in the region I'm visiting; a sort of fiber souvenir. My latest treat came from a booth at a bead show in Fairplay, Colorado. The sheep were even raised in Colorado. A totally local product! I think the spinner said the wool was Corriedale. My deepest regret was not getting the woman's name but I was buying as she was closing down her booth so it was a quick exchange. Good to meet you all. Best of luck on achieving your health goals.

Hey everyone!

My name is Triin and I'm 27 years old. I come from Estonia (small country in Europe), but live in Norway. I'm very new to the SP and to forums as such as well :) But thought why not give it a try..
I love knitting! Unfortunately I am not so fast at it and a bit impatient.. so I prefer small projects.. like socks. My newest favorites are actually lace shawls. Especially Estonian lace. I guess it helps with a little bit of patriotism when one lives away from their homeland. I have finished 1 shawl and knitted 2 more that need the edge laces stitched on. I do like the traditional Norwegian sweater patterns as well and the first real norwegian sweater is also in work. Has been for almost 2 years though..
Unfortunately it has been a bit due to knitting that i have put on some weight. I taught myself to knit some 2-3 years ago and then i could easily spend almost an entire day knitting... Even though I knew it will be good for me, walking in rainy and cold weather didn't quite inspire me to put down the needles. From now on I will try to prioritize both my health and my hobby.

Hi, I am Pat, live out here in Oregon.

I love to Knit and Crochet, I belong to a Prayer Shawl Group where we knit or crochet shawls, baby blankets, scarves, lap robes, angle coverings and kids afghans or anything that is requested to us. Most all the shawls we do are given to the cancer center at the local hospital and given out to those who come in for treatment although we do give to those who have lost loved ones as well...each one finds comfort in having a shawl.

I am excited to see what everyone else is working on and to find new and fun patterns to try. I have been knitting and crocheting for over 40 years.

Today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope.....The secret of contentment is the realization that life is a gift not a right.....

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones....Proverbs 16:24

Hi,

I am from Ohio. I have managed a knitting store and I am currently designing knitting and spinning tools. My day job is the assistant director for a trade organization promoting fuel cells. I've recently taken up spinning and I am loving it!

Hi, ladies. Honestly I am a registered member in spite of my lack of stats. I am down 35 pounds, but don't have time for the record keeping required.

I am a retired nurse who worked OB, long term care, and hospice during my working life. I have been knitting at times all through my life, but never tackled anything very difficult until my niece showed me the socks she was knitting. That shamed me into learning some new things and I have really enjoyed tackling some lace, Aran sweaters, lacy socks, and even some minor designing. I quilted for years and still piece tops but I'm old---I don't start quilting huge projects anymore.

Hi, my name is Belle and I live near Seattle, Washington. I've been knitting off and on since I was in high school, but I've only considered myself a true knitter for about 10 years or so. I'm currently working on the Tree of Life afghan, a pair of armwarmers, a braided scarf, and a hat. My personal goal is to lose weight and fit into my clothes better - not to necessarily be skinny, but to be in better shape and be closer to my real body type. According to SparkPeople, I should lose about 50 pounds over the next year - so here goes!

I'm a nurse and nurse educator. I'm excited to be part of this team and to meet everyone!

All will be well, and all will be well, and all manner of things will be well...

Hello,

My name is Mary, from MI and I am new to this website, and trying to stay on track. I have been knitting for years and consider myself an intermediate knitter at best. I haven't made anything in a few months now but I am on the hunt for something fun, and hopefully in a medium instead of a large!

Hi
I'm Rena from Normandy, France. I'm British and I have retired to a lovely small town here after many years living in London, England. The lifestyle here is tranquil and friendly which is great for stress levels. Now I am retired I have found time to get back to crafts, Have joined a group that knits clothes and blankets for disadvantaged new babies, but at the moment I am working on some tapestry cushion covers for my living room. My last knitting project was a handbag made of two strands of chunky wool on mega needles which only took a few hours to complete.

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

Hello! I'm Sharon from Michigan. I learned to knit as a child, but after a long hiatus, have been back at it in earnest. I also have joined The Knitting Guild of America, and have decided to embark upon the Master Knitter journey (any fellow travelers out there??). I'm hoping to lose about 30 lbs, and am hoping to gain some encouragement from you fellow knitters, and help to reconcile a more active lifestyle with my sedentary passion!

My name is Sara and I am from Rhode Island. I've been knitting for about 5 years and I'm still a beginner. Working on some easy projects like wraps and hats. I enjoy shopping for my evergrowing stash and tools =)

I try to use knitting as not only a hobby but a tool to help me not overeat (to knit instead) and to help me see when I am stressed and to see when I have calmed down....when I first started, my teacher always commented that I must be under stress because my rows were so tense, lol.

Great to be in this healthy and fun community!

Hi everyone. I live in a small town near Valdosta, Georgia. I used to crochet when I was younger. In my teens, I took up cross-stitch. Last year, I saw some knitting looms and decided to give them a try. It was instant love!

Now, I (mostly) make hats for people with cancer and children, whose families just can't afford to buy them. I also do scarves, shawls, and fingerless gloves.

I plan on trying needle knitting this summer. As soon as I get a break in my projects (baby blankets)!

Hey I'm Jocie from Miami, FL. I am not entirely new to SparkPeople. It's something I've come and gone from always scared to commit and fail. I'm at a point in my life where I'm making positive changes everywhere. One step at a time. I'm trying to learn that a small setback is not a failure. One of my goals this year is to be truly active amongst the online communities I'm a part of, something I've lacked in the past. So here I am, getting on the horse again. I'm 22 almost 23 years old.I've let the weight creep in on me little by little, story of my life lol and one I want to change. I've just started teaching myself how to knit and it is such a wonderful and relaxing thing to do. Blessings to all and look forward to talking with you and supporting one another.

Hi all! I'm from Oregon and have been knitting since my 11 year old was a baby. I learned to knit from a bunch of mom's at park days and the internet. I think I'm an intemediate knitter, I've worked my way up to socks and gloves, I haven't done a sweater yet.

I'm here on SP to get to a normal BMI and have a more healthy life. I've found that tracking make a huge difference in my ability to loose weight.

Looking forward to learning from you all! :)

Hi! I'm new to Sparkpeople, and I knit so I don't kill people;-) My Mom tried to teach me to knit years ago, but it didn't take. A few years ago I needed something to do while sitting at various sports practices, so I picked up knitting looms. Finding that restrictive after a while, I started relearning traditional knitting with the help of the internet. My mom passed away recently, so now i knit to keep her close to my heart.

Hello. I live in British Columbia, CANADA on Vancouver ISLAND

I have been knitting and crocheting since I was a little girl, 40+ years now. My mother and grandmother both knit and crochet, my three sisters and my three daughters both knit and crochet. My oldest daughter is a "leftie" and she taught herself by ripping back patterns and then recreating them

I live solo, okay I have a yorkie-x pup Maisie who keeps me company and busy.

I live two blocks from the ocean, so I enjoy; being outdoors, like to read (at the present Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series),organic gardening, eating healthy, being close to my family, going for "tea": travelling and riding my motorcycle!

"Life is a journey, may it bring you ALL, joy, good health and happy memories"

I am currently living in Washington State. I have been knitting for about 6 years now. I have to say it has saved my sanity many a times over the past few years. I learned to knit while laid up with a back injury. While I was picking up knitting I was also packing on the extra pounds.

I live with my boyfriend of almost 9 yrs. We don't have any kids or pets. Besides knitting I love reading, writing, watching sports, and playing/watching video games. I am tea fanatic & a thunder & lightening junkie lol.Sadly we don't get it much here near the sound in Washington.

Hello I am from Atlantic Highlands New Jersey. I have been knitting on and off since I was 12 which is over 50 years, horrors!!! I belong to a knitting group and also spin my own yarn, mostly Alpaca. I think the hardest part of knitting is reading the pattern!!! I joined Spark to try and eat more healthy and not loose weight. Although I guess it wouldn't hurt to loose 5 pounds.
So I am happy to meet other knitters who are health conscious. Hopefully there will be receipes! Love to cook too.........
