I agree too!!! The first class I went to I was scared, but there are so many different people in my classes and they are all just here to have fun and workout and no judgements!! One of the ladies I talk to the most is 70 years old and we have a blast. The first class I went to I "messed up" alot....but the more you go the better you get at the steps. But dont worry about that so much....just move and get into the music and the rest will come with time. GO! YOU LOVE IT!!

I agree with Bettycakes! Try it, you'll love it and make new friends! Be sure to tell the instructor about any health issues also to help with any modifications. The point is to have fun, move your body. You might not get it totally right the first time- but keep moving. I still have brain blips after months. One lady in my class stands there and "wiggles" when she misses a move until she catches up again. ( The class age group ran from high school to 80s over the summer! so it IS for everyone.) Enjoy, and do let us know how it goes.

They don't call it Exercise in Disguise for nothing!

Welcome to SP and to the Zumba Revolution! First, let me tell you Zumba is SO MUCH FUN! I have lost 80 lbs., total; 50 since I found Zumba. And many many inches. I'm almost at goal! You will work hard but you are having such a great time you don't realize you are burning 500-800 calories in an hour. And please don't worry that everyone is stick thin or are great dancers; there are people of all sizes in an average class. Zumba is for every body shape and size, and all ages from kindergardeners to elders. Not every class is appropriate for everybody, but there are different programs for all age groups. (Zumbatomic for kids, Zumba Gold for seniors and deconditioned individuals.) Just wear comfortable cool clothes, cross trainer shoes or similar (not running shoes they are too grip-y on the floor for dance) and bring LOTS of water and a sweat towel if the facility doesn't provide them. The choreography is designed to be easy to follow and effective, and you will get it in just a few classes. Tell the instructor you are new so she can show you any modifications you might need. Most of all, have FUN and come back and tell us how you liked it!

I'm new to SP as well as this group. I stumbled upon the word Zumba, checked out what it was and think it may be the key to me losing weight. However, I'm sorta scared to go. What if all the people there are stick thin and look at me funny? I know, stupid, but that's how I feel. Anybody have any experiences they could share? Thanks. Nice to be here!
