Hi, I'm new to this team. I've been doing Zumba for 2 years and got my instructor license a year ago. I just love Zumba! It really saved me. I am a mother of 4, and I homeschool my kids. I have been married 15 years and for the first time in those 15 years I have found something for me! I was doing Zumba between 3-5 days a week, but stopped going as much when we had to move to New Mexico for 6 months. Its a lot harder here because of the altitude. So I gained 10 pounds emoticon . Now, I'm determined to get that weight off, plus the other 20 I need to loose. I met a great fellow ZIN member who has been encouraging me to help in her classes and I've been back at least once a week. I'm trying!!!!

I'm 51, and I admit that when I was heavier, I didn't like Zumba as much. I went a few times and gave up. 40 pounds lighter, I went.....found a different instructor that makes it more "dancey", and I LOVE it! I also had to tell myself that NO ONE else are doing the steps "right" either....that it really does NOT matter. I had to go with the philosophy that if I was moving, then that is what really matters. I went to a Zumba Gold class and liked that even better, but they took it off the schedule. They're about to start it up again. Zumba Gold is for beginners or older ppl. Altho I am quite used to the regular Zumba, I think I'll enjoy the Gold class as well. I now try to get to Zumba 2-3 days a week b/c it's so fun that it's addicting!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've now gotten myself some dance sneakers to use for class, and they make the turns much easier. I've read in the customer reviews (when looking up the types of dance shoes) that having a shoe that makes the turns easily is also better on ones knees. I got them also for foot comfort. My tennis shoes just weren't padded and comfy enough. I'm happier with using the dance sneakers.

Hi! I took my first Zumba class today. I loved it, I loved the energy in the room!

I was able to keep up pretty well, modifying the moves when I needed to. I thought we were doing just 30 minutes, but before I knew it an hour had passed and I was still feeling pretty good. Tired, yes. Sweaty, yes. But I was able to keep up - and that's saying something for me.

The gals up front came up to me after the class and really encouraged me to come back again. I think that impressed me most - just the spirit of the class and that we were all in it together, regardless of size and ability.

I'm definitely going back next week - they have more sessions at my gym, but right now I can only make Monday night.

Keep moving forward!

My knees hurt sometimes, but it does get better the more you do it at least it does for me. If I take time off then start again they hurt more.
Not sure on the muscle cramps as I don't have that trouble.
Zumba in a class is a lot more fun since you have several people you can follow not just the one person, and chances are you will find someone who is having the same trouble you are.

I have a question for any of you that were really heavy when you started Zumba.
Did you feel pain in your joints (not just out of shape muscle pain) when you first started?
Sometimes my knees hurt when Im doing Zumba and I dont know if thats from getting older, or thats normal when your heavy. My feet hurt in the mornings now too. Also my calves cramp up when im working out. I have to stretch them a LOT.

I don't know how the others feel about this, but don't worry about the steps so much. You will find they get easier and easier the more you do it. The instructor I have is awesome for that she says she doesn't care so much if we can do the steps perfectly just keep moving. And if we can't do something, then just march in place. But the DVDs are a great place to learn.
Great job on the 6 pounds!

Hello, I have been doing Zumba and been on SparkPeople for 2 weeks. I bought the DVDs and still learning the steps. When I do them, I dont think I look like the ladies on the vidoes, maybe one day I will do it with ease like they do. Its a little frustrating, but Im going to keep going. Ive lost 6 lbs, so I guess Im doing something right. ( Im eating healthy too)
After I learn the steps a little better, I may join some classes so see how I like them.
I have not caught that addiction to Zumba yet, but Im hoping I do!

Hi all I am new to this group and thought I would introduce myself! My name is Jessica, and I have come to love Zumba. I tried Zumba about a year ago, and really enjoyed it. I kept going back. The only problem was class is at 5:30 and I usually work until 5:30 (can't get out any earlier), so I was not consistent when going to class. I did get the Wii and just got DVD's and have been able to use those when I can't make it to class.

Hello Everyone. My name is Trina and I live in Irving, Texas. I started out doing zumba at curves and love it so much. I am now doing zumba 6 days a week. I go to a regular zumba class on tuesdays and thursdays, I do zumba in the circuit at curves on Mondays and Wednesdays, zumba gold on Friday's and zumba toning on Saturdays. I have a few girls that I met at curves that now do all of this with me as well. We have such a great time. I also have the zumba dance for the wii, however, I haven't found alot of time to do the wii with all the other zumba's I'm doing. :) I am so glad I found zumba, I try to get everyone I know to at least give it a try. I love my instructors also, they are so energetic and make zumba fun, which is very important. Had one I didn't care for so we changed classes.

I LOVE ZUMBA emoticon

Hi guys! My name is Renne & I live in NC. I joined SparkPeople about a month ago. I can't believe it took me this long to find this SparkTeam. I LOVE Zumba but need to be consistent about it. I have to remember that no matter how I feel before I start the class/DVD, I am totally loving it within 5 minutes! I hope you all post some different kind of challenges to "spark" me along. I usually do the 20 minute express workout or the Wii Zumba at home. When the university starts up again (I am a prof), I'll try & go to 1 or 2 classes a week (depends on their timing & my schedule). Anybody have any suggestions about getting the most out of Wii Zumba (I just started with it this week).

hello KROSMON.. have a good day!!.. Good try...ZUmba is the best... Never think you cant do much , they have other options always.. like ZUMBA GOLD.. What stays the same are all the elements the Zumba Fitness-Party is known for: the zesty Latin music, like salsa, merengue, cumbia and reggaeton; the exhilarating, easy-to-follow moves; and the invigorating, party-like atmosphere. Active older adults want camaraderie, excitement and fitness as a regular part of their weekly schedule. Zumba Gold is the perfect fit. It’s a dance-fitness class that feels friendly, and most of all, fun...! good luck.. and goyour gym ..Sometimes is better the class in live!!.. Good Sunday!

Hi. I am new to Zumba. I will be 75 years old in a week, and have about 160 lbs to lose. I have gone up and down so much the body refuses to lose. I love the Zumba music, and bought the dvd's about a month ago but didn't try to play them until today. Needless to say, I can't do much yet but I sure as hell am going to try. My Curves also has Zumba classes, but I prefer the Zumba over the equipment. Getting off and on exercise equipment is almost more than I can handle. I have been with SP for several months but Zumba is new to me and I can't wait to get started. I ordered the shoe sliders today along with the Zumba for WII so I will have plenty to work with. I am so excited. Just have to take it slow as I am sooo much out of shape right now. Wish me luck.

Hi! I am new to Zumba Lovers. My name is Lucinda and I have been doing Zumba on and off for almost a year now. I have issues with consistency and I'm hoping joining this group might inspire me to improve.

MINIDOM - Remember when you change your workout routine, especially when adding toning, it sometimes takes a while to see change on the scale. Normally, you will see it first in the fit of your clothes, etc., as you are burning fat and developing muscle. 1/2 lb. a week is a very sustainable goal and nothing to squawk at! Keep up the good work and you will see more change, I promise. More importantly, when you lose weight slowly, you are more in tune with the needs of your body and will be better able to maintain/sustain the weight loss when you get to your goal.

Welcome to the team!

Hi,
New to SparkPeople today and was immediately recommended this team. I love zumba and try to go 4/5 times a week. Tonight I am trying a class with a different leader, in the believe that variety is the spice of life and the classes I attend at present are all led by the same instructor. I have lost 20 lbs and have approximately 60lbs to go. It is a very very slow process. I was hoping that exercise would speed things up, but it hasn't really. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I started with one class a week, then progressed to two. Recently I started to attend two more sessions and then a toning Zumba class. weight loss is an average of 1/2 weekly.

Hi! My name is Nancy and I am the mom of 2 teenagers and a wife of almost 18 years. Tim flies when you are having fun, and the weight seems to come along with the fun, for me!
I started doing Zumba in January 2010 and have lost 50+ lbs since then. I have a way to go, but I'm on my way!
I just need a little fire under my rear to get jump-started again, so I decided to re-join SP.
Looking forward to getting to know you all!

I took a Zumba class last fall and fell in love with it. Since then I have bought Zumba for the Kinect. Its awesome! Its perfect when I want to work out but feel too lazy to do a Jillian Michaels DVD, Your Shape or EA Sports Active. The only downside is no one seems to be online when I am online. My xbox gamertag is ArtsyBakingGeek if anyone else feels that they want to zumba online :D

Hi yall! I am new to Zumba Lovers, but I am not new to Zumba. I have the old Zumba dvds and have been doing them since they came out and at one time I joined the gym just to do the classes. I love Zumba, because I love to dance and I love Latin music and culture. Its a great cardio workout and its easy where anyone can do it, but challenging enough to make you sweat! I've read some of the other topics regarding the new dvds out the Zumba Exhiliarate. I was on the fence about purchasing them, but after reading the posts I definitely will purchase. I have been unable to do Zumba, because I had 11 fibroids the size of my uterus removed and I am on pelvic rest for 6 weeks, so I will have to walk for now but once that is over I will be back doing Zumba in August. I can't wait to do the strength training and lose these last 26lbs. I ready to take my body and health back and get out of this abusive relationship with myself!

Zumba is awesome because everybody can do it. It doesn't matter what your age is. And I hear you on the strength training thing, I'm making myself do it as well.

I am new to this team, but not to zumba--it is certainly addictive--I not only go to class 4 times a week, I use the Wii version and also have the original DVDs. I just love it and it is my main mode of exercise, even though I force myself to to strength training--I am 63, just retired last year and have 20 pounds to release. What is so great about zumba any one at any age or shape can have fun doing it--we have teens and some in their 80s! Each doing it at the level they are comfortable with. I actually convinced my youngest daughter to try it and she became an addict too.Now I am trying to change what I eat so I can lower my cholesterol. Thanks for having this group. emoticon emoticon

Thanks for the note! Today is day 3 and I "zumba'd" at home for 20 minutes to the dvd. Not the same as attending a class....but I've got to work myself back up slowly! I can hardly wait until the end of July ~ I've joined a new gym in our town that focuses on Zumba! The owner is an instructor and wow is she motivating! (She had lost 100lbs through Zumba and healthy eating).
I'm looking forward to the classes again (the music is soooo much better :))

SEASPIRIT - I had that same problem a couple of years ago. Pneumonia. It's all bad. But, then I started zumba and lost 40 lbs. in three months. Then I hit a brutal plateau and HONESTLY stayed within 2 lbs. of a number (208) for four solid months. Every day! Then I got sick again (asthma/bronchitis) and took two months off and gained about 18 lbs. of that 40 back. So, at least I'm re-focusing these days a little ahead of the curve. I still have a long way to go. We'll do it together!

My Zumba instructor just got back from convention in Orlando and she was STOKED tonight with new routines and re-fueled enthusiasm. It was HOT in there!

Hi! ~ I'm getting back on track and hoping that the Zumba energy will help me keep on track! I became a Zumba addict last summer and it helped me shed 30 lbs before I came down with pnuemonia and everything ground to a halt. So starting back at my original weight I'm determined to use every tool to help keep me motivated (and I know Zumba will help do this!)
Today is day 2 of refocus... and so far so good!
I'm looking forward to the challenges posted for this team!

Hello All!!!

I joined about week or 2 ago. I am sorry I am just introducing myself!!

I am single with no kiddos. I have been on Spark for about 6 months. I am excited about this group. I desperately need the accountability. This is a tough road especially when you are pretty much walking it alone and have such a long way to go. I am trul7y leaning on the Lord to carry me through this journey.

I am focusing on my small goals right now which is to lose 10lbs every 2 months but hopefully even faster but I think that is realistic although I really want to say 10lbs per month : ). My looooooong term girl is to lose 150lbs

A little more about me….

I try to keep a positive attitude no matter what although we all have our days : ) I love to have fun and just enjoy life. One of my favorite quotes is Live Laugh Love and Laugh Some More!!

One more thing I love ZUMBA!!!

I rejoined SP with a new account becasuse this is the beginning of a new me!! I went back to ZUMBA yesterday and it felt great. I am so glad I made the decision to rejoin because I forgot how fun it can be. I miss my old instructor but can't afford her class since she went up on the price. SsO I am trying out new classes in my area. Thursday I will be going to a new class that meets Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday. Also thinking about getting ZUMBA on Wii so I can do it at home

New to the Zumba team. I have been doing Zumba for several years now and everytime I do it there is something new. Look forward to what this team has to offer in the way of new ideas and challenges to keep my Zumba motivation going. emoticon

Hey! New to the team! And REALLY excited about ZUMBA. I found this type of exercise on youtube and was BLOWN away at how much fun this was. I was dripping sweat, and literally watched the same 5 videos for an hour straight! It's alot of fun! I'm Joining a gym that offers these classes and totally stoked! :):)

I'm new to this team, thanks to an invitation from Pewterbunny. I always say that I don't LIKE Zumba, I just like what it does for me. My secretary says that isn't true. She says that when I talk about Zumba, I "glow." WHATEVER!!! All I know is that I wouldn't miss a class unless there was an emergency. And SOMEBODY had better be bleeding or have lost a body part!!!

I often feel that I am TOO FAT, TOO OLD and TOO WHITE to do Zumba, but I hang in there anyway. I'm OFTEN out of step with the rest of the class, but I figure if I'm still moving at all, then I'm doing OK. I've been taking classes twice a week since April.

Peace, Love, and Zumba,
Vicki

The DVDs are great, but you should really shoot for taking a real class, a live-in-person class, too. Zumba is all about the party spirit and it's way easier to get in the party mood when you're with a group.

Welcome aboard the Zumba train. It is one that will keep you chugging along. With every other program I have ever tried, I have gotten burned our or physiclaly tired from working the same body parts over and over. With Zumba, I walk out of every class feelng GREAT . . a little taxed, but GREAT. I lost 40 lbs in about 3 months when I started Zumba. I swear by it!

I recently stated taking Zumba classes and I absolutely love it. It is sooo much fun. I do Zumba twice a week and if I had the time I would do more classes.

Aloha from the state of paradise Hawaii

I am new to Spark People, this group but have been doing Zumba for a few months. I got it for myself as a Xmas gift and it is really a gift that keeps on giving. I had already lost 60 pounds before I started but kept gaining back five and losing it. I need to lose 5 pounds more now. I used to dance Latin when I was younger in the Latin clubs of NY and Zumba reminds me of that. I just finished a personal challange the ten day lose a dress size. I lost 6 pounds and will test the dress size because as a carrot, I ordered a few dresses online from different stores and they look big. I didn't try them on yet.
I am losing weight for my health but my soon to be 70 pound weight loss came with a lot of pain. Until I found out the cause of my panic attacks I carried around my dead weight like a barrier. I ended up writing a memoir about my experiences and was astounded that a publisher in the UK wanted it. It is out in kindle and will be out in print in a few weeks. I want to look and feel great and Zumba is the way I do it and keep doing it. I tried other things but Zumba makes me feel good. I hope to make many friends here and I think that dance in general is very good for people who have anxiety. Thank you all for listening Aloha Maya

Hi! I just started zumba classes less than two months ago, but I did many styles of dance when I was a kid.
I had heard about zumba fron friends & I heard a lot of music and cheers from another room while at the gym, but I was scared for a long time because I knew it would kick my ample behind.
I was hooked from the first class. I was right about it kicking my butt, but I loved it! Son't worry too much about learning the moves or keeping up the pace, you'll get better with time.
After only 1 month, the teacher in our beginner's class has hollered "follow Dawn" when we turn so we can't see her. That's right baby, let me show you how I shake these 20 stones!
