I used to worry about my punctuation, grammar, etc. Now, I just let 'er rip.

The "hugs" part is what angered me the most, because it was such a lie. Hiding her true intent behind the "hugs". It was also her way of looking down at me, with pity.

You will love the rest of our team, too. They are all the bomb!

ZOMG, y'all are the bomb!

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement--and good job on shooting down the hater by being cool & collected! I would have totally started an epic flame war, for sure. The "hugs" is the worst part, by far. Way to be intelligent, kind, and awesome all at once. Us heathens have got to represent!

(I also just just noticed my bad punctuation there on that first post... Whoops.)

I stomped around, screaming those "interesting" words. before I started typing, MAYA.

I didn't want to give her the satisfaction of thinking the "devil" was in me and that her Lord would be proud that she was out there correcting heath-urns, right and left. Christians on our team aren't as insensitive as the "hugs" lady, and I didn't want to embarrass them, either.

I think it's great that we have another team member wedding on the horizon. While the 1 lb per week is reasonable, planning weddings can be stressful.

Be sure to let us help if you start to fall behind schedule with your weight loss. Things that look good on paper, are still difficult to make happen. It's just nice to know that you have a little wiggle room with the timing.

Welcome, indeed! Yeah, we barely talk about religion, but we do get all excited about BodyBuggs and other neat gadgets. :)

Congratulations on the upcoming wedding - as Boo said, a pound a week sounds SO very reasonable, you can definitely do this!

(Dang, Boo, where did you learn to be so reasonable? I'd have opted for ... umm .. more interesting words!)

Happy New Year!

Cheers,
Maya

I'm glad you found us, too. I love this team. Wait 'til you meet your team mates. Terrific people!

Losing 50 lbs in 2011 sounds very doable. That's 1-lb per week. Check out our "Right Now" monthly challenges to see if you're interested.

I'm totally with you on the religion thing. Someone I didn't know, who misunderstood what our team is about left a snarky comment on my page a while back. I don't recall who it was but I saved the comment and my response. I ran across it today while cleaning out my computer files. You will probably appreciate it, for many reasons. And it also tells you a bit about me. I'm a content atheist, who enjoys life.
_____

Here's the person's comment:
Just stopped by to check your page out...I believe in being honest and real so I just need to say.... I found it kind of strange that you believed SP had to be separate from Christianity but you have no problem being an atheist or expressing any other ideology? Seems kind of strange if you are a truly liberal???? peace and love.
(((HUGS))))
______

Hugs, yet! This riled me up at the time. I was polite, in my response, but I wanted to make sure she got the point that it wasn't cool to come to my page and try to bully me with her religion. I may keep it, in case I get another complaint. Here it is:

"You may have made some assumptions about me, because you see that I am leader of Separation of Church and Weight and a member of Liberal Atheist Hippies."

"In the interest of truth, keeping it real and mutual respect, I will say that I believe in “Live and let live.” I believe it’s best for everyone to find a spiritual path that is meaningful to them and not worry about what others do or do not believe. You may be familiar with the quote “In my father’s house there are many mansions. “ Here’s another quote I like, “Love and unity come hard if you fix your gaze on otherness.” I try to focus on what I have in common with people, not on where I’m different."

"I don’t try to convince anyone to become an atheist. I have been married to a man for 49 years who is a Baha'i. He's almost a "holy man"; he's into tolerance, peace, independent investigation of truth, and the unity of mankind. If he has no problem with my atheism, why would you?"

"I am a member of Liberal Atheist Hippies because there are a lot of nice people on the team, and I like them. My leadership of Separation of Church and Weight doesn’t mean that I am into bashing religions. On that team, we rarely discuss religion. Our focus is on supporting one another as we learn to be more fit and eat better, without having to deal with comments about religion that can potentially cause misunderstandings and be hurtful."

"Peace and love to you."
_____

The people on this team have many different beliefs about life, and we get along beautifully.

EDIT:
BTW, I will add that many of us have had reactions like yours to the abundance of religious zeal on SparkPeople. Thankfully, we have our little refuge here, where we don't have to worry about it.

Hello all! Man, am I glad to have found this group. As an optimistic agnostic, it gets really old seeing religious-based and 12-step program "inspiration" all the time; I just want to get fit and be healthy. Why does religion have to get into anything.

Anyway, I'm so pleased this group is here, and as a SP n00b, my goals are to lose 50 lbs total by 12/31/11 and start planning my 2012 wedding (secular non-denominational...my fiance's an atheist) as a healthier, happier person in general.
