If you're wary of using paints, try the watercolor pencils. You can draw your design and add water with a brush. Watercolor is cool, but I prefer acrylics too.

Hi - I only just discovered your group, but I love to do crafts!!

I don't do watercolor, but I do paint with acrylics, and there is a product called PAINTING MEDIUM (You buy it where you buy the acrylic paint) which is a transparent paint, and when mixed with whatever color you are using, makes it more or less transparent, depending on how much you mix in. So if you mixed the PAINTING MEDIUM with the colors you are using to paint the mountain, it would make it somewhat transparent and the flag will show thru. I would try on a smaller canvass, a "trial" painting, just to get the feel for it.

Another suggestion is to paint a clear coat over the flag, and then as you paint the top painting, you have a little leeway to wipe off any mistakes as you go, without harming the flag.

Good luck, it sounds like a beautiful endeavor!

After a very long time, I thought I would check in and update my status, and say Hi to anyone still there who remember's me. I am doing well, have had some setbacks, but not in the weight loss department. My goal has always been my Sparkpeople name, Iwillbe145. I am able to see the goal line now, I weighed in this morning at 152. I still have nearly 10 lbs to go, and I can see by my belly that I will want to continue loosing until I have a waistline again, but I am so happy to have come so far.

Sorry no suggestions but it sure sounds like it will be nice.
I plan on taking a watercolor class as soon as our community classes sends me a catalog.
Good luck and let us know how it goes! emoticon

Need a suggestion! Any watercolor experts out there?

My vision for this project is to create a wavy looking American Flag. This will be the first thing to paint on the whole canvas. To fade it into the background I want to add sky, mountains and an ocean. Any best way of handling this idea and still see the faded flag coming through?
