GEORGIEGIRL, You wrote that "it is proven that those who [Galloway walk/run] have a better finish time."

I know of no such proof. And Galloway's own publications never make that claim. He does refer to it as a "proven method" but not for the purpose that you describe.

Congrats on signing up for your first half! I walked one last year, and this year I'm going to run it! :) I started training with a local running club. It's very helpful for me, esp on long runs. You might check that out, see if you have a local club in your area. They might be putting together a training group for the run you've signed up for! :) Good Luck!

Congratulations for signing up for your first HM. It's a great distance - long enough that you really feel the effort, but not so long that you are wiped out. You have been running long enough that you are ready for the distance (most folks feel you should already be running for a year before even starting a HM program), and you have already done 7 miles, which is more than half the distance.

Find a good training program. You can find plenty of free ones online, or find a good running book that is geared toward running half marathons.

Enjoy your training, and if you have not already done so, sign up for the race, which will ramp up your motivation.

Hi there - I am running my first race / run on October 19th! I just started running this June and love it. I would suggest you do the Jeff Galloway walk /run to avoid any injuries and it is proven that those who do this method have a better finish time.
I am running 18kms this Friday, last long run before the big day :)

Life is good - Live yours today!

Hello! I have been in the group for while, but haven't posted till now. I am new to running and to the whole idea of a Half Marathon. I haven't done one yet, but there's one in May here in Iowa that I am planning on running.
I have done one 7miler and a large handful of 5K's. My average 5K time is about 33 minutes. I run/walk, although I can run the 3.1 if I push myself hard enough.
I started running in December of 2013 and ran my first race in March of 2014 and from there I was totally hooked.
I've been on SparkPeople for a while now, I've had various accounts as I kept leaving and coming back (haha) but now I'm here to stay. It has helped me out tremendously and I also love to connect with other runners.
