Hi there. I've been diagnosed for about 6-7 years but just recently became serious about conceiving. I also have fibroid tumors that, according to my latest doctor yesterday, are "taking over my uterus." Needless to say I was crushed and feel very overwhelmed. Do we really have to cut out everything we like; coffee, occasional glass of wine, sugar, etc. to aid our bodies in getting pregnant?

Good luck to you Colette, I think it's better to start young. I will absolutely add you as a friend. I too would like to chat with women who know how I suffer.

Anyone out there with fibroids as well? I could use some support there, I have to get surgery quickly :(

Great start losing the weight! For me getting my period means that I ovulated two weeks prior. I basically don't get periods unless I ovulate or are on hormones. You can use ovulation test strips to see if you have a surge in LH which generally happens 24 hours before ovulation. You can buy large amounts of these tests online cheap since you should probably test from about day 10 on. You could also chart you basil body temperature but I never had much luck with that. I guess the only 100% way to be sure is to go to the Dr for a scan. It's a good sign that your periods are more regular though.
I am not sure about over the counter meds but you can ask your Dr about metformin. It's a diabetes medication they prescribe since PCOS is thought to be related to insulin resistance. You may not need this since your cycles are more regular. Just something to keep in mind when it comes to diet though. You can try clomid.
You are doing the most important thing now, losing weight and getting healthy. I finally got pregnant after 2.5 years of trying on a combo of metformin, clomid and weight watchers. It's great that you got diagnosed so young. Good luck and feel free to ask any ?'s.
