Hi I am Laura and I like to read cozy mysteries by favorite authors like Laura Childs, Joann Fluke, Joann Carl and others. I do not like books with a lot of vulgarity or profanity in them. I also love reading Christian Romantic Suspense books as well. I have books on my shelves I have not read yet and books on my Kindle.

My name is Laura and I live in Wisconsin. I am a Powerful Prism Panther.

Hi, I just found this team last night and I'm so glad! I've loved mystery books since first discovering the Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew series when I was young. It's great to find there's a Spark team for mystery lovers. I read other kinds of books, too, but always come back to mysteries. Right now, I'm reading "Books, Cooks, and Crooks" by Lucy Arlington - it's the first time I've ever read a book by this particular author. I look forward to being part of the team.

Hi my name is Terri and I am new to this team also. I love to read mysteries and thrillers, but not scary. My favorites are series books and I always start with the first book whenever possible. I found a website called Fantastic Fiction and you can look up authors and it will list out all of their books, by series (if they have more than one like David Baldacci and Catherine Coulter) and they list them in the order they were written. I also love reading books by Carolyn Hart, the Death on Demand series, because Annie owns a Mystery Bookstore and she always gives me a lot of author suggestions. Some of my other favorites authors are Dorothy Gilman, Laura Childs, Leslie Meier and Lydia Adamson. There are so many more I could list them all day long I think. Sarah Graves, C J Box, Vince Flynn, JoAnna Carl and Lee Child are a few more.

I am looking forward to a lot of good conversation and good support and encouragement from this group.
Terri

Hello. I joined this group this morning. I think I am a former member, but cannot remember...ugh. I have been away from SparkPeople for quite some time and have decided to come back and use the support to help me continue in my weight loss/exercise/get healthy goals. I am a book worm...read LOTS of mystery and throw in the occasional Women's fiction, YA book or whatever else strikes my fancy and jumps off the shelf at me in the bookstore.

My name is Susan and I love mysteries especially, but will read other types of books as well. I like Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, Kate Morton. Have found two relatively new writers, Giles Blunt (Detective John Cardinal) and John Verdon (Think of a Number, Shut Your Eyes Tight). I am always looking for new writers and books and hope to learn a lot from this team!

Hi Everyone I've just joined the team. I love Mystery stories. I'm not so much into the thrillers but love an easy read detective story. I like the murder to be close to the front of the book. I don't like books where the author puts in unnecessary details that have no relevance to the story.

I love books written by MC Beaton. I read both the Hamish Macbeth and the Agatha Raisin stories. I also like Janet Evanovich.

At the moment I'm reading A Certain Justice by PD James

My name is Kristi and I have enjoyed reading all my life and especially like a good mystery. My all time favorite writer is Lisa Gardner-she writes about one book a year and I look forward to it every spring. I have three girls and spend most of my free time in shuttling them from activity to activity. This year I am going to try to carve some time out for me to get healthier.

Hi my name is Libby and I live in South Africa. I read a great deal - including mysteries (more crime and detective types and political thrillers). Great to find a team where I can discover new authors. My favourites at the moment are some South African ones (a writer called Deon Meyer and another called Margie Orford at the moment) and this year have enjoyed discovering among others a delightful series about a 70 year old chief coroner in Laos by someone called Colin Cotterill. The first book is called the Coroner's Lunch and it makes me laugh out loud as he grudgingly comments on society with his friends and unravels crimes while I learn about Laos
Great to be part of this team.

Hi! My DH travels during the week so I have lots of time to read. I love Martha Grimes and Carolyn Hart mysteries but am willing to read any good page turner. I also love vintage movies, esp. Hitchcock. I have 2 dogs and a parrot and enjoy gardening and birdwatching. I love to cook and play computer games that involve "puzzles" i.e. Myst.

Nice to meet you all.

Good day! I'm Tim. I'm a transportation supervisor on the night shift for a fairly large poultry company in Salisbury, Maryland. I live in a small town called Eden, but am originally from another small town in Virginia called Afton. Not too far from Charlottesville.
I'm a reader as of about 7 years ago when I got hooked on John Grisham's novel "King of Torts", and then I decided to read everything else he's written. I'm a huge fan of James Patterson's "Alex Cross" novels, and Stuart Woods "Stone Barrington" and "Holly Barker" series. Right now, I'm reading "Revenge" by Mark Young, and I'm not getting my rest when I get home from work because I can't put the darned thing down.
I am looking forward to getting to know you all, and sharing some good reading with you. This looks like a nice, active team, and I'm anxious to share my weight loss journey with you all.
God Bless!

Hi! I'm Lulu. I'm a high school English teacher and avid mystery reader--I am a particular fan of Dorothy Sayers, but I'll read just about anything. I just finished the latest Flavia de Luce book last night, and knocked off a couple Scandinavian thrillers on a flight from Ghana to the States last week. I'm thrilled to find some like-minded readers!

Hello Mystery Readers Team, I am delighted to find you. I have been Sparkling since September 2011 when I entered a medical weight loss program. One of the strategies I used to keep my mind off food in the first weeks of the program was reading a new mystery series. I absolutely love CS Harris' Sebastian St. Cyr stories.

I started reading mysteries about 25 years ago with every Sherlock Holmes and then every Agatha Christie novel. I tend to find an author I like and then read everything I can find that they have written. This year I discovered MC Beaton and fell in love with both Agatha Raisin and Hamish MacBeth.

I am looking forward to learning about new authors and sharing books I am reading with all of you.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Hi, My name is Susan and I'm from sunny Florida. I'm 65 years old and retired, although I do lot's of volunteer work so I'm as busy as I was when I had a paying job. I love to read, in many different genres, but I'm partial to mysteries, preferably cozies or police procedurals that don't get too graphic in the depiction of violence. I don't like bodice rippers or dumb (or arrogant) protagonists, but I'm a sucker for books with dogs in them. I don't care if a book is a stand-alone or part of a series, although I will abandon a series if I think the quality drops. I have way too many favorite authors and/or series to list them all, but at the top of the list are:
The Brother Cadfael series, by Ellis Peters (set in 12th century England)
The Southern Sisters series, by Anne George (two sisters in Birmingham, AL)
The Meg Langslow series, by Donna Andrews (about a modern female blacksmith)
The Joe Pickett series, by C. J. Boxx (about a Wyoming game warden)
Books by Dick Francis; I prefer his earlier works

I am new to SparkPeople (coming up on one month anniversary), and up to now all my teams have been related to weight or exercise, but the Mystery Readers Team is my reward to myself. I'm looking forward so much to hearing about mysteries from other team members. Susan

Hi, I am Joan from Arkansas.....aged 67 and feeling every one of those years, but I love to read. Actually almost any genre but I think that mysteries are one of my favorites, along with suspense as well as romantic suspense. Favorite authors ......quite a few and at the moment I cannot think of many names other than Nora Roberts, Janet Evanovich, ...drats! why is it the mind goes blank when one tries to think? I love cooking mysteries, bookshop owner mysteries......*grin* though I can't think of her name off hand. I will have to get up a list of some of my favorite authors and post them....:) I love, love, love the herbal mysteries by Susan Wittig Albert.

Hello,

I am Cate and live in Peterborough UK. I, like everyone else here, am an avid mystery reader. My brother bought me a Kindle for Christmas, didn't know if I would enjoy an electronic book but I'm hooked! Downloaded quite a few mysteries from Amazon - all free!
Some of my favourite writers are Ian Rankin, PD James, Elly Griffiths and Quinton Jardine (all British) but have read a number of knitting type mysteries from the US.

Look forward to broadening my book horizons!!

Hi:

I'm Gail and I live in Madison, WI. As a mystery junkie it's good to find others who share my passion. My hope is to hear of some new authors. Generally, I like to read mysteries, especially series, in order of publication. I just finished reading Qiu Xiaolong's series highlighting a detective from Shanghai, Inspector Chen Cao and am on the prowl for a new author. I'm so glad I bothered to look for you.

Hi. My name is Georgine and i am a mystery lover also. I live in northern Minnesota close to the Canadian border. Winters can be long so i always want a good mystery on hand. I get the Suspense seies from Harlequin, good authors. I share the books with 2 girlfriends and then they pass them on. I just ordered Size 12 isn't Fat and the 18th book in the Plum series by Evonovich. i just started Fall from Pride by Karen Harper. Just finished Final Exit by Laurie Breton. I do read other types of books if they interest me but love my mysteries. Morganlafee (sp?) referred me to this team. i am 70 years old taking care of a disabled husband from alcoholism and arthritic ankles. Surgery coming up on the ankle. My books go with me everywhere I may have to sit and wait. emoticon

Sorry it took so long to welcome you Erin! I have been having trouble getting Spark emails.

In any case, glad to have another reader! What are you reading now? Paper, kindle or recorded or any combination thereof?

Hi. My name is Erin and I am a married 64 year old woman living in Nebraska. I have many health issues and we live in a retirement community so I can get the help I need when I need it. When I don't, I try to help some of the others here by doing their laundry and ironing for them. DH just went through a bout with cancer this year and is now in remission. I have 2 grown daughters that I haven't seen in years but e-mail one of them on a regular basis. The other doesn't have a computer and prefers not to spend what little free time she has on the phone.
I am a voricious reader and my favorite books are mysteries. Although they do have a book club here, a few employees and I are thinking of starting our own little mystery club. It could be fun!

Hi. I'm Holly. I'm so excited to be part of this team, I love to read! I tend to only read mysteries. I seem to lose interest if no one dies. I love Agatha Christie, Janet Evanovich, Nancy Martin, Victoria Laurie, Elaine Viets, and many more. My new favorite is Lisa Lutz! She is absolutely hysterical. I feel the same was as MISSSWEETSTORY - I always need to have a book ready to go for when I finish the one I'm reading.

Hi, I'm Janet. I love to read mystery & suspense novels. My favorite author is Janet Evanovich, but I enjoy many others including Heather Graham, Carla Neggars, Nancy Atherton to name a few. I've also read a couple of Donna Leon's Inspector Brunetti books & enjoyed them. I feel lost if I don't have a book started and another few for back-up! emoticon

I love all the vintage and cozy types of mysteries. I am in the midst of reading Donna Leon's series about Inspector Brunetti. They are set in Venice. I'm always on the look-out for recommendations.

At my age, rereading is almost as good---sometimes better---than the first time round and I often don't remember anything anyhow, so I've done some rereading of Christie, Marsh, Blake, and other "golden-agers".

Hi, I just found this team although I've been on Spark for quite a while. I'm an avid reader and read mostly mysteries with female protagonists - I just find their characters more interesting.

I've read too many authors to list them all, but here are a few of my favorites - in no particular order: Suzanne Arruda - set in British East Africa after World War I, Agatha Christie, Jacqueline Winspear - set in England after WWI, Elizabeth Peters - Egyptologist in the 1920s, Anne Perry - Victorian England (There seems to be a pattern here - all historical mysteries!)

Plus some more contemporary stories by Marcia Muller; JA Jance, Sue Grafton, Janet Evanovich, Joanne Fluke, Carole Nelson Douglas, Diane Mott Davidson, Sue Henry, Lyn Hamilton, Carolyn Haines, and many more.

So many books, so little time!

Hi, my name is Kristi and I love a good mystery. My favorite author is Lisa Gardner but I will read about anyone and have been looking for some new authors to read. I am currently not reading a mystery but reading The Help. The movie looks so funny and I like to read the book before seeing the movie (I know the movie usually pales in comparison to the book).

I have been on Spark for awhile but have just recently really got motivated to do some serious weight loss and to keep on top of that food log.

Hello Everyone! Although I have been on SP for ~2yrs, I just thought today to search for a team like this. My other teams are all concerned with health issues so I decided to add a team to deal with fun.....and I suppose, to deal with mental health as reading certainly makes me feel better.

I enjoy mystery writers but also read other stuff too. I am usually involved in a spiritual study, professional reading, general news items, etc. My sister introduced me to Dick Francis. Does anyone else read his work? I am currently reading 10lb Penalty.

I am in my 3rd year in Houma, about an hr southwest of New Orleans. Really like the people--Native Americans, African Am, Caucasions, Hispanics, Asians, and of course one of our own--Cajuns. A delightful mix of people. Water everywhere with 5 bayous, the Intercoastal Canal and the Houma Navigational Canal all going through the town. Disappearing marsh land very nearby.

Am glad to have found this group.

Hello there. I just discovered this team. I love mysteries, always have one going in paper and one to listen to while I go about my day. My favorites kind of change over time, and I have discovered a lot by listening to the recorded books.

I've been at goal for awhile now, and I am a Spark member to keep it that way. It's a daily discipline, one that I have finally learned to enjoy. Reading and cooking are my two hobbies, and listening to mysteries while cooking wonderful meals every night is my favorite time of day. I don't even mind cleaing up anymore.

Hi everybody,
I'm a mystery book junkie. I usually have three books going at the same time. I've read all of Michael Connelly books except for Reversal. I'm going through all of Kathy Reichs books. I usually throw in some James Patterson, especially the Cross books. I read Lee Childs and Harlen Coben. Someone suggested James Rollins. I always have time for Patricia Cornwell. I'm studying Buddhism, I know that's not a mystery. Someone else suggested I read Karen Slaughter. I'd rather read than exercise. LOL
Thanks'
Jeri

Hi! This looks like a great team and I love to read mysteries and watch them on TV and movies. Right now, I'm working my way through all the Agatha Christie novels in the order they were published. I've just started Murder in Three Acts.

Hi everyone. This team sounds like great fun. I really like to read mysteries. Right now I reading some Charlaine Harris. I enjoy the combo of scifi and mystery. I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but I really enjoy zombie stories too. There not mysteries, I know, but I can't stop reading them. emoticon

Hi -- think I'll enjoy being on this team. Love to read and have a pile of books to read. Listening to Janet Evanovich - Lean Mean Thirteen - with my Mom. She was a voracious reader, but now has macular degeneration and can no longer see. Have more things to discuss - lol -- be back later, Echo

Hi I'm Susan, a book-aholic. Mysteries seem to be my favorite, although I read all kinds of books. My favorite authors are: Jonathan Kellerman, Alex Kava, Victoria Thompson's Gas Light Series, and the list just goes on and on. My goal is to always read at least a book a week, so at least 52 books a year. I'm so anal about it that I have a spreadsheet that goes back to 2003. That way I can keep track of the books I've read, remember to look for specific authors, and keep up with the different series.

No folks, I do not have children!! Otherwise I know I would not have the luxury of reading as much as I do. I look forward to getting some new author/book ideas from the Team.

It's taking me a while to maneuver my way around all that SparkPeople has to offer, so bare with me until I get it down to a system.

Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend. Tomorrow is my first "outing" on the "new eating plan", so I'm a little anxious to NOT blow it. It would be great to make it more than five days without messing up completely.

Calling it a night, going to read a few pages in: Wrong Side Of Dead by Jordan Dane. The Sweet Justice Series book #2. (No wonder I'm single with the kind of reading material I like)

Hi, I'm new. I used to read everything, except westerns. These days I lean toward mysteries. Most of what I "read" are books-on-tape. I love being able to knit and listen to a good story at the same time. Other times I fall asleep while listening to a good mystery.

Hi everyone. I just joined SparkPeople yesterday and I've already gravitated to my favorite subject - reading mysteries! In fact, this is one reason I've not been losing weight - reading is my prime means of de-stressing. Anyway, I've read mysteries since I was a wee lass - started with the Bobbsey Twins and progressed to reading all the Agatha Christies that were out at the time. I have many favorite authors, Elizabeth George being one of them. Once I latch onto an author, I want to read all their novels. Anne Perry's novels were like this; same with Michael Connolly. I am currently entranced with Ian Rankin - I LOVE Scottish mysteries. Somehow I really identify with the main character, Rebus, though I'm not a raging alcoholic & smoker as he is. But I appreciate his subtle humor and view of life. If anyone wants a reference for a good video mystery series, I've just finished 'Blue Murder' - yet again set in Scotland. Excellent!!! It has a great, strong female lead who is a single mom and a fantastic leader of her police team. 'Wire in the Blood' is another video series I've enjoyed, based on the novels of Val McDermid. Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading more about the interests of the group. `Mary

Hi - I just joined Spark as a way to get into a healthy lifestyle. Although I don't need to lose weight (was chronically underweight for years till I tried to quit smoking in Oct and gained 20 lbs), I do need to watch nutrition and exercise. Unfortunately I started smoking again last week and now am back to that huge struggle. Anyway, I love mysteries and thought this was a good group for me.
My favorite author of all time is Elizabeth George. At the moment I reading a new author Elizabeth Ironside (A Very Private Enterprise). I won't have any trouble making the 30 minutes of reading a day goal!

Cheers
Barb

I joined this team last week.

In terms of fiction, I read pretty much only mysteries and spy novels, so this seemed like the place for me.

I joined this team in order to get exposed to some new (at least new to me) authors. I've been reading certain authors for well over a decade (I remember when Sue Grafton was on "C", I've read all of Sara Paretsky's books, and I've read almost all of Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware books), gave up on a few others for various reasons (Patricia Cornwell, for example) and now just want to find something completely different.

On the spy novel side, last summer I started reading Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon novels (for years I mainly read Robert Ludlum and David Morrell) - and that worked out really well so now I am looking for some new (to me) authors on the mystery side.

The reading list for this year looks quite interesting and includes nothing I've already read, so this ought to be fun. I am not gonna read the January book as I don't have enough time, but I've already ordered the books for Feb and March!

Ask yourself each day: If you were to write the book of your life, would you want to read it?

Hi, everyone.

I am Zozette. My user name is a combination of my real name (Lynette) and my childhood nickname (Zozo). I live in Hobart, the capital of Tasmania.

This year I have been reading quite a few Scandanavian mysteries (Arnaldur Indridason, Karin Fossum and Jo Nesbo) as well as some cozy mysteries.

Hello, I'm excited about this team...I've already been to the library to look for the books you might choose for January! I'm a preschool teacher with two grown daughters. I love reading mysteries and hope I'll be able to figure out how to join in on your book discussions.

Welcome to the Team!

The Weekly Scavenger Hunt, What Are You Reading Now, and the Monthly Book Club selection are great sources for new author information! We are also expecting some author visits in our online book club chats coming up soon, so be sure to read those postings.

Thanks so much for choosing the Mystery Readers Team!

Hi!
I'm also new to this group and excited to find new authors. I tend to pick a favorite and read all of their books...which means I'm always on the lookout for more. As for favorite authors...there are just too many to choose from! I tend to like writers with a pronounced sense of humor. I guess some of my favorites are Elizabeth Peters, Ruth Downie, Agatha Christie, and John Mortimer. I also enjoy Conan Doyle, not for the mystery, but just because Holmes is such a character. Any suggestions for new authors to try?

Hi! In general, mysteries are the only fiction I read. I have a long list of favs, Churchill, George, Rendell, Perry, Evanovich, Davidson, and many others. Unfortunately, reading does not burn as many calories as say walking! emoticon

Welcome, Lisa. I am sure that if you check around, we all have read lots of good books. I do like the new series we read last month, by Julia Spencer-Fleming, Maggie Sefton who is the author for this weeks scavenger hunt, Karen Macinerney who is this month's book club, Agatha Christie, and several more who's names escape me at the moment. That's what happens when you get older!

I know how bad dial up can be. Welcome, and feel free to do a report on any of the books that you read. I love hearing what others are reading and it helps me find new authors. I lean towards cozies myself, lately I have been reading a series with recipes in it. I tend to go in streaks and read series from beginning to current or until I burn out on an author because the just aren't as good as the originals

Nope, I don't have a Spark Page - partly because I have a dial-up connection at home that sometimes crashes while loading the pages and ALWAYS takes forever with them. But I'm an about-to-retire college professor (Renaissance literature) who enjoys several different kinds of mysteries, and I'm looking forward to hearing about what others are reading.

I mostly like "cozies," classic whodunnits, and some police procedurals. I normally don't like shoot-em-up-beat-em-up-jump-into-bed types.

Cheers,
Phoebe
