wa alaikum as salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu, ALhamdulillah sister, I am please to be talking to you as well. I am from Washington DC but have been residing in Maryland for most of the adult portion of my life Maashaa Allah ta ala. It was in Maryland that Allah ta ala guided me to Al Islam, Maashaa Allah. I really like sparkpeople and have benefitted from the features on the site as well as the kind and motivating people here that want the same thing I do, and that is to be healthy and fit. Ok, I am a mother of 5 children that began weighing 99 pounds before my first child and then after up and down up and down nearly three months ago went to the doctor and they weighed me in at 194 lbs and some health issues. Today I am 178 lbs but scared of going back and scared to go forward. I know that I want to succeed at being healthy and fit but scared to fail cause I don't want to, I just don't want to fail. I am african american and ever since I can remember I have been eating soul food, plenty of seasoning, plenty of fat, just PLENTY. Since I have been muslim, and thats been over 11 years, I have discovered 2 things, one is that muslims come in all shapes, colors and sizes. The other is that Muslims eat with soul as well...we eat rice, flour, bread...FOOD. If its time for a lecture, there's food. If its time for visiting a sister or whatever, there is food. I have to participate in a walking group for muslim sisters and after we would walk, the sisters wanted to go and eat. And yes we must eat, but not icecream etc...I love the muslims mashaa allah, I am just saying that WE EAT, just like in my culture of Black People, WE EAT. There are no rules with what kind of food, how much food, etc...I know that I have to learn how to survive in the real world. I have to realize that just because its there that doesn't mean I have to eat it. I have to stop letting food be my comforter. I know that I need support. I know that I have to work at it. I like the Beachbody motto, DECIDE.COMMIT.SUCCEED. I look forward to communicating with this group and reminding one another of good. As Salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.

Salaam,

My name is Molly and I'm a convert from Minnesota. I'm married to an Egyptian and have recently moved back to the States after living in Egypt. I thought that I would lose weight overseas and I did initially (walking to the souq, walking to catch taxis, climbing to my mil's 6th floor walk-up apartment, climbing to my sil's 6th floor walk-up apartment *wheeze*,) however I soon discovered Medinat Minawara and their roz bi laban (gamed geddan!!) and I got used to eating either rice, pasta, or bread at every meal.

And then... then I came back to the States where I could get everything that I hadn't been able to get in Egypt: Taco Bell, pumpkin pie, Taco Bell (it needs two mentions,) Dairy Queen, Carbone's, etc. And I gained a lot of weight.

So here I am now, 100 pounds over my goal weight, unhappy with my appearance, thanking God that I have a husband who loves me no matter what my weight is.

I'm not sure what triggered me to be in the place mentally where I was ready to do this, but alhumdulillah I am.

So hello, salaam, ahlan w sahlan. I'm excited to be here and excited to have a support group of fellow Muslimahs. :D
