We have a tagalong for the grands. We sound like a train going down the road, but they so love it. Sometimes DH puts the tagalong on his mountain bike for the 5 year old and the trailer on mine for the 2 year old. I really get a workout then. There were several bike shops on the Katy trail that rented them, give it a whirl. We got our first one on E-bay and it wasn't that expensive, although we did have to replace the tires.

Great suggestion. We had a tagalong for a long time until she grew out of it. I never really considered a tandem bike though. Maybe I can talk my husband into renting one so that we can try it before we buy it. And as long as she remembers to help with the peddling lol. By the time she out grew the tagalong she was getting pretty hard to pull even though she had pedals but James got a great workout out of it.

I can sympathize with your daughter. Our garage is full of failed attempts to get me to ride. I'll offer the same advice DH got. Tandem. I do have a single mountain bike (in addition to 2 tandem mountain bikes), but we ride a tandem road bike. I'm just not comfortable on the road, traffic makes me very nervous. I'll bet she would love riding on the back of a tandem.

Wow Bev,

You've logged a lot of miles so far. My husband and I live a little south of St. Louis MO. There are a lot of trails around here but I don't think any of them are longer than 20 miles unless we go on the Katie. We would ride more often but our 11 year old daughter does not know how to ride a bike and is being very difficult to teach. She comes by it honestly though, I was kind of scared of bike riding until about her age. Maybe we'll try to get her on one again soon. It would really be nice to ride as a family group. That way we can go off on the weekends and ride all weekend. I definitely want to go in the fall again when the leaves change. Boone's Crossing is beautiful in the fall.

Welcome from central Alabama. DH and I rode the Katy trail last year and I must do it again. It was a great ride. This year we are going to ride more of the Virginia Creeper. I'm afraid Alabama doesn't have many trails longer than a few miles.

Hi, I'm Pauline. My husband and I love to ride our bikes every chance we get. We try to ride on the Katy trail when we can but it's been a year since we've gone. Luckily there are tons of new trails being made every year so we don't really have to travel too far to get a good ride in. We live in a rural area that isn't safe for riding on the road so we usually have to pack up the bikes in order to ride. I'm looking forward to being a part of this group and can't wait to hear about everyone's experiences on the trails and roads this summer.

Welcome to the team. I can't believe anyone bikes in Wisconsin in the winter. If it gets below 40 I freeze, even with my cold weather gear.

Good morning! My name is Julia & I'm new to sparkpeople, just trying to live healthier & lose that extra couple pounds I've been hanging on to for the past couple years. I'm happy to see some nice biking groups here. I try to bike as much as possible in spring, summer & fall, but I admit I'm a bit of a fairweather biker. It's too cold, snowy and icy in Wisconsin for me right now, even with studded tires!
