Hi Deborah! It's nice to meet you. I see you like cats, too.

Hi Deborah!

I'm Carol, also from Texas, though I lived on Kaua'i for 14 years. BP2, Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety/Panic and PTSD.....YaY!

Glad you found SP and our team! Get comfortable and join us in the chat thread.

You are indeed so fortunate to have a doctor you love. I've finally lucked out and found one as well and it is one of the most important things in proper diagnosis and treatment. That and having a great hubby, fur baby and a hobby you love.

Looking forward to knowing YOU!

Carol - Houston, TX (it's weird to see this and not Kaua'i, Hawaii)

Hi Deborah! I'm Diane, aka Rissa. I like photography, too! Mine is decently under control with medications. I have something called schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type, which is a mix of schizophrenia and bipolar, along with a couple different types of PTSD (regular and complex). I have a cat, her name is Angela. I don't know what to tell you about your sleep... I sleep with a sleep mask on to keep the light out, which isn't an option for you. I'm glad you can connect with your son on Facebook! Great job on tracking your food, and even better that you cut down on snacking! It's a great start! I need to get back on track with mine!

Welcome to the team!!

Good evening, my name is Deborah and I am a 53 year old wife, mother, grandmother, and amateur photographer. I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder several years ago and it has been a long road to this point, under control. Doctor after doctor for one reason or another left me, bringing on severe anxiety and depression, that is till I found my current doctor. She may be out of town, but she is wonderful and got me on the right medicine quickly. The other medicines I had been on kept messing with my type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Along with those three medical issues I also have sleep apnea and PTSD. My doctor calls it a "deadly-cocktail" to be gently stirred and never shaken!! LOL She has a wonderful sense of humor and can put me at ease within minutes of being at my appointment. I am married to a wonderful man who has stuck by my side thru thick and thin while I was on the bumpy road to being under control. Without him I can't bare to think of where I might have ended up. He keeps me supplied with the things I need most in my life to keep me happy: his unconditional love and understanding, cats, and cameras!! He is totally retired now and so we are able to travel at will. I enjoy our trips more than normal because we always bring our cats with us...they are my sanity keepers. If I am feeling the least bit out of the ordinary they can put me right again just by purring and racing around doing silly antics. But, despite all this I spend most nights up till all hours of the morning in a state of silent despair. I fear sleeping due to sleep apnea, I can't stand to have anything strapped across my face (PTSD related) and thus stay up till I can't keep my eyes open, which allows all kinds of thoughts to invade my mind. I miss my son terribly, I know he has to make his own way in the world now, but it is still a struggle for me to have him out of the house even though he has been gone for over 6 years now. Thank goodness for FB messaging!!! He works nights and can spend some time talking with me during his slow time...or...we may just send "stickers" to each other without a single word spoken between us...it is just part of our bond that I treasure so dearly. My weight plagues me as well during the night and often I find myself munching way more than I should to try and comfort myself. Finding Sparkpeople may be my weight saving grace. I find the food tracker very easy to use and maintain with ease. I have already cut way down on my nightly snacking....nothing past midnight last night..a first for me in a very long time. I am much more aware of what I am putting in my mouth now which is a big vote getter from my GP. She is thrilled I am finally doing what she has been telling me to do for years....track, track, track . LOL I look forward to getting to know some of you better and having a companion to help keep me on the right track.
