Thanks, Larissa! It's good to know that it's not impossible to lose weight on meds. emoticon

*hugs* Welcome! Weight loss is possible, but it's harder for a person on meds. I managed to lose 50 pounds on lithium, geodon and seroquel. I was going to the gym, eating right and walking daily. I fell off the food wagon for a bit and gained a bunch of it back. I'm trying to lose weight again, and so I have to get back together. We can do this!

Welcome to the team!

I think it's possible to lose weight no matter what medication you take. It just takes more effort to figure out what's going to work for you.

As for working for you, because every person's body chemistry is different, there's really no way to tell exactly what effect the Seroquel will have on you. I've taken many medications over the years and I can tell you from first hand experience that sometimes, you will have a reaction totally the opposite of what you and the doctors are expecting. Sometimes it can be a good thing. Other times, not so much. Before you worry about losing weight on the medication though, it's really important to make sure that you're stable. If you aren't, and you have to make adjustments, what works at one point of treatment, may not work at another. Be patient.

Hi, I've been recently diagnosed as Bipolar and my doctor wants me to start taking Seroquel. I haven't started taking it yet as I'm waiting to get some tests done regarding thyroid and hormone levels. (I'm 50 and recently went through menopause and have gained a lot of weight even though I haven't changed my eating or exercise habits.)

I would be interested in knowing if it is possible to actually lose weight on Seroquel. I also wonder if it will actually make day-to-day life easier i.e. will I be able to be more productive at work, will it help me with my relationships, etc. Or will it just make me slow and sleepy?
