Thank you, Carol! That helps alot! Sorry to hear you have to go through all that... hope you are doing better now...

IHC results came back, ER/PR +, HER2 ++, waiting for FISH results... Doctor prescribed letrozole but my mom is hesitating to take it due to the side effects...

I'm thinking to wait for the FISH results, if it's positive, maybe surgery is a better approach?

If her tumor is hormone +, estrogen fuels its growth and depriving it of estrogen will help with treatment. Even though your mom is post-menopausal, estrogen is still stored in the fatty tissues in the body (think breast for one), and aromatase inhibitors will help make sure it does not feed the malignancy. It's taken orally and there's no hair loss, but they do have many possible side effects (I know, I had the treatment, had all the side effects and even invented some new ones): bruising easily; loss of energy and stamina; drastically reducing bone density; pains in the bones, not just the joints; severe hot flashes and night sweats (again); psoriasis flare-up. There are 4 different varieties of aromatase inhibitors (that I know of). I ssuggest Mom talk with her doctor and decide which (if any) would be the best course of treatment.
