Hi, I am new to this group. I have been running for a little over a year now. I just completed my first 10k in May and working towards my first 20k in August. I look forward to participating in this group.

Hi everyone! I am new to this group as well. I just began running in September 2007, doing only a minute or two at a time and I just completed my first mini-marathon in April of this year. So I can now happily call myself a runner! I love it and it's great to be part of a community that does too.

Attitude is everything!

Just wanted to say "Hi!" as a newbie to the Runner's Cafe. I've been running for the past few months and I ran my first 5K today! I think I've caught the running bug because now I'm ready to sign up for another one! Anyone have any good tips for improving my time? I really just wanted to finish the first one but now I'm more interested in stepping it up a bit...

Hi! New person here. emoticon I am a 51 year old grandmother who does endurance races. I am also an adult onset athlete. I ran my first race at 49 and I am hooked! Although, I have to be honest, I don't run. I am a racewalker. I do train just like a runner and I have won place medals. My next race in a 10K in June. I just did the OKC Memorial Half Marathon last month.

I joined this group because it seems lively and excited! That's the person I am!

Jackie / Runzenirun,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I do run on the treadmill on an incline of 1 - but it still doesn't quite mimic the outside weather and wind factors. Obviously, it is way easier to pace yourself with the treadmill. Unfortunately, it was super windy yesterday and raining today. I will have to wait another day or two before running outside again.

Hi Pat,
I have a friend who is doing the exact thing - transitioning from the treadmill to running outside. I recommend that whenever you run on the treadmill, run at an incline of at least 1. This will help simulate the hills and wind resistance outside.

One step at time! You'll get there!

Hi Everyone - I just started running in early March and can use some encouragement. I do really well walking / running on the treadmill but running outside has been a real challenge for me. I signed up to do a 10 mile run in the beginning of May with several co-workers who are also new to running. I can do 7 miles on the treadmill in 65 minutes or so. When I ran outside last week - 4 miles was very challenging. I had been posting on another runner's team but it seemed as though they were all in the advanced stages of running. I am running both for the way I feel after the run and to assist in losing weight. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you.

Pat
