Putting an emotion into words gives it a life and a reality that otherwise it doesn't have...Similarly expressing confidence in a person's ability to accomplish something actually strengthens that ability.

Enjoy The Trip!

Humor God by trusting Him and while you are traveling this road to fulfillment, enjoy the trip!

But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him out.--Hebrews 11:6

The devil wants us to feel so bad about ourselves that we have no confidence in ourselves. But here is the good news. We don't need confidence in ourselves--we need confidence in Jesus.

Thanksgiving: A Life Principle

A powerful life cannot be lived without thanksgiving. Complaining in thought or word is a death principle, but being thankful and saying so is a life principle.

Mercy Produces Mercy

People are not perfect, and to expect them to be is frustrating for everyone involved. We must learn to be generous with mercy and to sow seeds of mercy (give mercy to others) so we can reap mercy (receive mercy from others) when we need it.

Spend time daily with the Lord. Fellowship, pray, ask, seek and come out of that time with Him equipped for the job at hand. Then being fully equipped, go do it. exercise the authority that has been given to you in His name.

It is absolutely impossible yo worry and live in peace at the same time.

Don't worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all that he has done. Easy Does It

When you find yourself in a troublesome situation, let your goal be to simply stay calm. Don't play into the devil's hands by getting upset.

The devil wants you to lose control so that he can gain control. Remember, the devil sets you up to get you upset.

Timing Is Everything

Many times we want information on when, and God can't give it because we don't have enough wisdom to handle the knowledge. We must humble ourselves and our ideas to the wisdom and power of God and trust Him when He says in His Word He will not be late one single day. He has an appointed time for everything in our lives. APPOINTED TIME simply means when He knows the time is right.

Habakkuk 2:3--For the vision is yet for an appointed time and (fulfillment) it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait (earnestly) for it, because it will surely come; it will not be behind on its appointed day. emoticon

Reasons to Praise

There are many things to be thankful for if we decide we are going to be a person who continually offers up thanksgiving. The flesh looks for things to complain about, but the Spirit searches for reasons to give God glory.

Elayne, I'm reading Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World, and your devotion makes me think about something in chapter 2. The author talks about the 3 Ds that Satan uses against us: distraction, discouragement, and doubt. It's a step-by-step process; if Satan can get our focus away from God, then circumstances can discourage us - and we begin to doubt that God really loves us.

Say "NO" To Doubt

Since you can choose your own thoughts, when doubt comes you should learn to recognize it for what it is, say, "NO Thank You", and keep on believing!

Romans 4:20--No unbelief or distrust made him waver (doubtingly question) concerning the promises of god, but he grew strong and was empowered by faith as he gave praise and glory to God.

Jesus came and told his disciples, " I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth."

I've been using a devotional magazine called "Indeed" from Walk Thru the Bible. Here's one that really spoke to me:

ALONE WITH HIM
Luke 5:15-16

“Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:16).

IN WORD
You’re busy. It’s a fact of life, especially in our culture. All of our modern, time-saving technology hasn’t solved our busyness for us. We’re spread as thin as ever.

At the same time, we’re called to be Christlike. The image of Jesus is being imprinted in our spirits so that we will one day be like Him. In some respects, if we have any level of discipleship at all, we already are. And we know, when we read His Word, that we are to take our cues from Him. That means that when the Word tells us He would withdraw to lonely places to pray, we know we are to do the same. Christlikeness means, of course, being like Christ.

What are we to do when our culture, our work, even our families dictate against an attribute of Jesus? Are we to follow our culture or follow Christ? On the surface, it’s an easy question. When we try to apply the answer, it isn’t. Getting away is next to impossible, especially getting away often. The demands of life compete against the demands of Jesus, and we far too often choose the former. It’s easier.

But it won’t get us where God wants us to be. The bulk of discipleship is to be learned in community, but there are some aspects of it that we can only get when we and God are alone together. Sometimes that can happen in a brief morning devotional, but there are other times when the Spirit wants to teach us a deeper lesson or perhaps simply to have a longer time of fellowship with us. That can’t happen unless, from time to time – as often as possible – we get alone with God.

IN DEED
If getting away with God in a lonely place is not part of your regular discipleship, start thinking today how you might be able to change that. Plan a potential time to do it. If it seems impossible because of work or family demands, ask God to help you see when it could happen and to help arrange the details of it – who will cover for you, where it might be, etc. Remember that He is as interested in your rendezvous as you are, even more so. In Jesus, He gave us that truth: Worship involves solitude with Him.

“The more a man loves Christ, the more he delights to be with Christ alone. Lovers love to be alone.”
- Thomas Benton Brooks

Grow In relationships

Suspicion cripples an entire relationship and usually destroys it. Trust and faith bring joy to your life and help relationships grow to their maximum potential.

Bigger Problem, Bigger Grace

You and I don't have a problem that is too big for the grace of God. If our problems get bigger, God's grace gets bigger!

Romans 5:20 NIV

God's law was given so that all the people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God's wonderful kindness became more abundant.

Straighten Up Your Thinking

Since what we think about eventually comes our of our mouths, we will never get our mouths straightened out unless we do something about our thoughts.

--Philippians 4:8 NIV

"...Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about the things that are excellent and worthy of praise."

Elayne's personal reflection:

I know I have a lot of thinking to change. My thoughts are not always along those lines, and I get in trouble for it. It is true, what I think I sometimes say out loud, and of course I cannot take back those words. I am trying to count to 10 before I speak when I am upset. This gives me time to think through what I want to say, and times I don't say anything because I have done that. I pray God will continue to close my mouth when I am tempted to say the wrong thing. emoticon

Never Fear Rejection:

In order to sustain healthy, loving, lasting relationships, a person must not fear rejection. When this fear becomes the motivating factor in the life of an individual, they will spend their time trying to avoid it rather than building healthy relationships.

This is the Devotional I got from www.kcm.org. It is so important for us to know what ever we have been/done/gone through in the past is covered by the blessed blood of Jesus. He died on the cross to FREE me and you from all past sin and condemnation. I urge you to take of advantage of that freedom. Stop giving the Devil any place in your life and let GOD reign.
Blessings,
Vicky

Let Your Life Begin Again

"Behold, now is the day of salvation."
(2 Corinthians 6:2)

Dear Victoria,

Did you know that Jesus has unlocked the prison doors of guilt that have kept you captive? It doesn't matter who you are or what you've been. I don't care if you've been a prostitute, a murderer, a thief, a drug dealer, or a churchgoer who's never made Jesus Christ Lord of your life. The Bible says that today is the day of salvation.

A new life is only a prayer away.

Gloria and I discovered that for ourselves more than 25 years ago. Actually, it was Gloria who took the first step. She found out that the Bible said that not even a sparrow falls without God's knowledge. "Well," she thought, "if God knows and cares when the sparrows fall, He must know what terrible shape my life is in right now. And if He cares, maybe He can do something with it."

Gloria didn't know anything about the Bible. She didn't even know for sure that God would let her start over. But when she told Him she wanted Him to take over her life, something supernatural happened on the inside of her. She was born again.

"But what about my past?" you may say. "I feel so guilty about it!"

When you've been born again and made a new creature in Christ--that past doesn't belong to you anymore. And it would be ridiculous to walk around feeling guilty about someone else's past, wouldn't it?

What would you think if I took a little baby on my lap, a pretty little thing just a few months old, and said, "Oh, isn't she precious? But just think about her past."

You'd think I was crazy! "What past?" you'd say. "She doesn't have any past!"

Well, it's the same way with you once you've been born again. You don't have any past. Your life begins again the day you make Jesus Lord of your life. Then, when Satan comes around trying to remind you of what a worm you were before, just tell him he's knocking on the wrong door.

You've been kicked around long enough. There's no need to wait any longer. The prison door is open. Walk through to Jesus and let your life begin again today.

DO THE WORD

The more you meditate on, ponder on or think about the Word of God, the more you will be able to readily draw upon its strength in times of trouble. The power to do the Word comes from the practice of meditating on it.

--Joshua 1:8 NLT-- Study this Book of the Law continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed. emoticon

THE PRICE OF PEACE

From a spiritual position, it was Jesus' Blood which he shed on the cross for our redemption, what bought our peace. But from a practical or natural position, the price we must pay for peace is a willingness to change our approach to life. We will never enjoy peace without a willingness to adjust and adapt ourselves. Jesus has provided His peace--enjoy it!

--John 14:27 Peace I leave with you. My peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid... emoticon

Be on Top of Things

There is a big difference between being UNDER stress and being ON TOP of the situation!

Deuteronomy 28:1 and 13

" If you fully obey the Lord your God by keeping all the commandments I am giving you today, the Lord your God will exalt you above all the nations of the world.

If you listen to the commands of the Lord your God and carefully obey them, the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always have the upper hand."

Elayne's Personal Reflection:

If I listen to what God is telling me to do and if I do what he wants me to do I will be ok. It's when I try to do my own will that I get all mixed up and confused.

Turning Toward The Light

Plants, as they grow, automatically turn toward the light. People can choose between light or darkness. Recovery is available to us, but we may choose it or not. God is also available to us if we choose to seek His will.

Before we found the 12 Step Program, we wandered around in the darkness of compulsive overeating, or any other addiction we may have. Now that we see glimmers of light, we need to turn ourselves in the direction from which the light is coming. Working the program requires taking the time and effort to change our routine. The light is here, but we need to turn away from darkness and open ourselves to it.

As we examine ourselves in the light that comes form God, we begin to see more clearly where we should make changes and how we may find health and peace.

Dear God,
Grant us grace to turn toward Your light.

Monday, July 28 from The Courage To Change

"Love your neighbor, yet pull not down your hedge."
--George Herbert

I think the word detachment is often misunderstood. For me, detachment is the freedom t won what is mine and to allow others to own what is theirs.

This freedom allows me to keep my own identity and still love, care about, and identify with the feelings of others. In fact, I believe that the degree of our humanity can be measured by our ability to know the other person's pain and joy. I have been practicing the principles of Al-Anon to the best of my abilities for a long time. But when someone in the fellowship shares about having a difficult time, I can go right back to day one. I know longer live with that type of emotional pain, but I can feel theirs. I can identify without needing to remove their pain.

Today I don't have to like everything my loved ones or friends say or do, and I don't have to try and change them even when I think they are wrong. I continue to learn how to care without taking everything personally.

Today's Reminder: I can detach and still love, still feel. I can learn to take care of my own business while allowing others to tend to theirs. Today I can detach without losing compassion. emoticon

Keeping It Simple from Day By Day

Keep It Simple--The complexities of our mind are not reality. We are not really in the mess we think we are, We can have total peace today, if we will accept today as it is, without anxieties over tomorrow or worries over yesterday. If we do what is given us to do this day, we will be doing God's will for us.

God's will is not just something "out there." It is here, right now, as close as our telephone, our children, our job. and our friends. If we will keep it simple today, perhaps tomorrow we will be given something more. Do I keep it simple?

Lord, help me to let go of everything that interferes with doing your will for me today.

I will simplify my life today by: emoticon

Turning it Over:

It is a truth that if we turn our lives over to God, our problems will be lifted from us. But it is easier to speak this truth, than to live it. If we only would come to realize that of ourselves we are nothing, can accomplish nothing, than what choice do we have?

Through our own wills we misuse God's gifts to us, causing only pain and destruction in the end. If we turn our wills over to the Father, he will guide us with His will. We must pray, meditate, listen and believe. Have I turned it over?

God, let me live this day to the fullest and be as One with You.

Today I will turn my will in the following way over to God:

Criticizing Not Taken from Day By Day

Criticism us a hard thing to take. But if we would not be criticized, we should not criticize others. This does not mean we become social vegetables, mute carrots. Expressing concern in a loving manner does not mean we are criticizing.

We are entitled to our opinions, but we are not entitled to lay traps on those around us. The sharing of our experience, strength and hope is a way to help others --not needless and biting criticism. Have I begun to share instead of criticize?

Lord, let me never belittle others knowing that you are with me and everyone until the end of the earth.

Today I will praise: emoticon

Sorry I missed 2 days. Guess I was having a "Senior Moment" for 2 days and forgot. How strange. emoticon

Wednesday, July 23 taken from Voices of Recovery

" Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inward peace for
anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset. Comment all to God, and then lie still and be at rest in His bosom." --St. Francis de Sales

I calm down instantly upon reading that quote. I give up control and know that God will get everyone ready, in the car, and off to the appointment in the appropriate time. I realize that my job is to stay God-centered and loving, rather than bullying everyone.

This quote helps me even when I am feeling calm. It always brings more peace to me and strengthens my bond with God. God loves me and empowers me to heal more each day. emoticon

Personal Reflection: This hit me right square between the eyes and reminded me that I need to be in that space. I need to stay calm and peaceful both inside and out. Serenity is inner peace, and I must guard it with my soul. emoticon

Goals and Ends taken from Food for Thought

Most of us came into the program with a specific weight goal in mind. We thought that if only we could weigh an ideal number of pounds, all of our other troubles would miraculously vanish.

When we reach goal weight, we discover that we still have to live with ourselves and deal with our problems. If we have been developing a strong program as we have been losing weight, we have a basis on which to work for further emotional and spiritual growth.

Our emotional and spiritual goals are not static. Since we never achieve perfection, there is always opportunity for further progress. This is a program for life, and its possibilities are limitless. To know and to do the will of God is our ultimate goal as well as our immediate one.

Today's Reminder: May I remember that You are my goal today and always.

"I discovered the secrets of the sea in meditation upon a dewdrop."--Kahlil Gibran

This is taken for Courage to Change in Al-Anon

I remember as a child, climbing trees to better observe a nest of baby birds, and laying on my back wondering what it would be like to fall into a sky full of clouds. I still have deeply spiritual feelings when I am out in nature, and today I think I know why.

One of Al-Anon's basic principle is living "One day at a time," and nature surrounds me with wonderful role models.

Trees don't sit around and worry about forest fires. The water in the pond doesn't fret over turbulence it encountered a few miles upstream. And I have never seen a butterfly pry into the affairs of its fellows. All of creation is going about the business of living. If I keep my eyes open, I can learn to do the same.

Today's Reminder: A great deal can be learned as a result of painful circumstances, but they are not my only teachers. I live in a world full of wonders. Today I will pay attention to their gentle wisdom. emoticon

Friday, July 18 taken from Twenty -Four Hours A Day
Devotional Book

Two things that can spoil our relationships are gossip and criticism. To avoid these destructive things, we must realize that we're all in the same boat. We're like a group of people in a life-boat after the steamer has sunk. If we're going to be saved, we've got to pull together. Gossip and criticism are sure ways of destroying relationships. Am I guilty of gossip or criticism?

Meditation for the Day

We should try to be grateful for all the blessings we have received which we do not deserve . Gratitude to God for all His blessings will make us humble. Remember that we could do little by ourselves and now we must rely largely on God's grace in helping ourselves and others. People do not care much for those who are smug and self-satisfied or those who gossip and criticize. But people are impressed by true humility. So we should try to walk humbly at all times. Gratitude to God and true humility are what make us effective.

Prayer for the Day

I pray that I may walk humbly with God. I pray that I may rely on His grace to carry me through. A-men emoticon

Growing Up-- from the book Food For Thought.

There is no magic. Nothing--be it person, place is thing--is going to give us instant gratification. We keep thinking in the back of our mind that there is some way we can manipulate life into granting us all Dear God,of our desires, even when they contradict each other.

When we seriously and with honest effort work our way through the Twelve Steps, we begin to grow up emotionally and spiritually. Abstinence from compulsive behaviors makes this growth possible. It's not easy, but it is definitely worth the effort.

Acceptance and renunciation are necessary if we are to live with satisfaction in the real world. Grandiose illusions are of no help. We come to understand that certain foods, emotions, and attitudes are not for us if we are to maintain our sanity.

There is no magic. but there is a Power greater than ourselves called God who is directing our growth.

Dear God, Grant me the willingness to grow up please. emoticon

He will never have true friends who is afraid of making enemies.--William Hazlitt

People pleasing has a twin called resentment. Excessive compromise--always smiling and saying YES when I want to say NO--is bound to take a heavy toll in terms of self-esteem and, consequently, in my relationships. Fear of going off the deep end, of blowing up, keeps me from letting people know how I really feel.

As a result of working the steps of the program, I am developing then emotional balance I need to express disagreements without hostility. Progress in this area is slow. It begins with feeling good about myself.

For Today: I will seek God's approval first, then my own, then others. emoticon

Maria. What a powerful verse that is. I used to compare myself to others, but I have pretty much stopped that now, Thanks To God's help. Here's one for today. Tuesday, July 15, taken from One Day At A Time In Al-Anon

"What shall a man profit a man to be right if he thereby makes an enemy?"

The simplest--and most difficult--of all our slogans is the word THINK. We seem to be thinking hard all the time, but it is mostly about our troubles, and who's to blame for them. We can't seem to get around to thinking about what we may be doing that damages us. One word to think about is "retaliation".

Have I ever thought in some form or another:" I'll fix him for that!" "I'll pay her back for what she did!" Do I seek relief from my resentment by retaliation, instead of forgiveness"

If a person hurts me without being aware of it, and I can overlook it, my reward is an inner flow. If someone expresses their self-hatred in strong language directed at me, I know it has no validity and so I can ignore it.

Today's Reminder: Before I take any action--or speak any words--I will think about what provoked me into this impulse. If I can persuade myself not to act or speak, I can quietly and inwardly rejoice that God gave me the grace to be silent. Such constructive thinking is a fine ego-builder--just one of many. emoticon

Monday, July 14 Taken from Courage to Change

"Let me remember that the reason for making amends is to free my own mind of uneasiness."

I didn't know how great a burden my guilt was until I made amends and gained release from it. I never wanted to face the harm I'd done in the past. Consequently, without knowing it, I carried guilt with me most of the time. Making amends has helped me to put the past behind me and move on with a clear conscience. My self-esteem has grown ever since and I feel much better about myself.

But I had a problem. The person I felt I owed the most amends to is no longer living. Deep in my heart I know she had understood, and forgiven me, but I could not forgive myself for the harm that I had done. How could I make amends?

After much prayer and thought, I realized that I couldn't change the past. All I could do was to change my present behavior. Now, when I feel tempted to shirk a responsibility, I can remember my friend and reconsider my choice. Each time I talk to a newcomer, chair a meeting, of share my story, I am making amends to my friend.

Today's Reminder: I can't make past wrongs disappear, but I can take actions that will help me let them go. When I make amends, I do what I can to correct the situation. Then I can put the past in its rightful place and leave it there.

Lacking Power Over Others

If we examine our lives it may become clear that we do not have much power over others, as shocking as that may seem. But often our arrogance gets so blown our of proportion that we think our actions can get someone stoned, drunk, make them eat too much, or keep them clean, sober or abstinent. Think of that!

Of such importance we are to ourselves, we begin to think that we are so with others. Seldom do we make the obvious reflection that our affairs have about as much weight with others as theirs do with us, and this is often little enough. Do I know I am able to manage no one?

Lord, help me realize that my power over others is actually very little, and protect me from my own arrogance.

What will I do if I find myself trying to manage others today? emoticon

Taking Inventory from Food for Thought

Blaming circumstances and other people for our difficulties, including compulsive overeating is counterproductive. we cannot control external circumstances or other people, but we can work on changing ourselves. In order to change, we first need to be aware of that attitudes and characteristics which get us into trouble. If we overeat or have a tantrum when we do not get out own way, then we need to learn how to function without demanding that everything should go according to our personal schedule and preference.

We take inventory in Step 4 and we continue to take it in Step 10. It is a valuable tool for our growth. The amazing result is that as we recognize and begin to correct personal defects, our relationships with others improve tremendously with a positive change in our attitude and behavior, there is a corresponding change in the way other people respond to us.

Taking inventory involves recognizing our good qualities as well as our weaknesses. In our recovery we can measure our wealth not by what we have, but by what we have been given.

" I have accepted myself and I'm beginning to accept other people the way they are each day. Now I have fewer resentments."--Living With Sobriety

This devotion is taken from "Courage to Change."

A long -time member says, "An expectation is a premeditated resentment." I take this statement to suggest that when I have a resentment, I can look to my expectation for a probable source.

Here's an example. I have a brother who is less attentive to being prompt than I am. When I make a plan with him that involves meeting at a certain time, I am co-operating in establishing conditions that encourage me to nurse a resentment. On the other hand, when I make a plan with my brother that is based on no expectation of promptness, I feel no resentment.

Today's Reminder: I have the right to choose my own standards of conduct: but I do not have the right or the power to impose those standards on others. emoticon

I think my recent experience really puts this to the test. I have been taking personal stock. It has not been easy to do or to achieve, but with work, the good person I am will come to the surface, not drown in self doubt. I will not listen to cruel people any longer. I will not turn this cheek again and again. I don't think God would want me to be someones punching bag. So, I will work on me.

That's a great exercise Elayne. Thank you for the reminder!

Thank you Elayne. It was close. We were both in shock for a couple of days. Hard to believe it even happened. I can't believe we made it through, but not without damage. Every day is getting better though. Not feeling so pained about it. Healing...
God Bless You Too.

This one fits right in with our 4th step perfectly.

Thursday, July 10

" Ever'thing there is but lovin' leaves a rust on yo' soul." --Langston Hughes

Many of us have spent far too much time feeling badly about who we are and what we have done. We may have been harshly criticized by others or we may have simply lost perspective and become overly hard on ourselves. Today we have an opportunity to stop that kind of destructive thinking. Isn't it about time we allowed ourselves to feel good about ourselves?

It takes time for old doubts to fade and wounds to heal. Self-confidence comes slowly, but it grows with practice. We can begin by acknowledging that we do have positive qualities. For those of us who have negative, self-critical thoughts running through our heads all day long, we can make an extra effort to counteract them with positive thoughts. For every defect we identify, we can also try to name an asset. Some of us find it helpful to list five or ten things about our day that we have a right to feel good about before we go to sleep.

With practice, we can learn to treat ourselves with gentleness and compassion. We all have many admirable qualities, and we owe it to ourselves to let them shine.

Today's Reminder: Today I will make an effort to remember that I am a terrific human being. emoticon

Dear Vicky and Maria, Thank you so much for those beautiful devotions. They both wee very comforting to me.

Dear Jean, I was so saddened at what you have been through but Praise God that you have come out of the attack as well as you did. No one deserves to be treated as a doormat. God never intended for this to take place. You are in my prayers for continued strength and courage. I pray for God's blessings to be upon you and your husband. emoticon

Tues, June 24

Recently I have encountered a situation where this was tested. I held my ground and would not let myself be a doormat. I held out though to try to see it in every possible way. It was a ruthless attack, and believe evil was at work. I didn't fall apart, was stronger and calm, as these are blessings. Bottom line is that I will not allow myself or my husband to be used, to be doormats. This will throw a wrench in the users works. I finally said, No more. I have tolerated a lot up to this point but see that divine intervention is needed in this situation. We have done all we know to do and can not any longer be involved with cruel persons. It's sad but must be this way. They will never change (unless it's in God's plan)so I must continue to live...to pray...to remain sane...

I am not "complicating existing situations with emotional excesses"! :) Please pray for me...I need them...

God will guard you from the evil one!

I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made the heavens and the earth!

He will not let you stumble and fall; the one who watches over you and will not sleep. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never tires and never sleeps. The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not hurt you by day, nor the moon at night. The Lord keeps you from all evil and preserves your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
-Psalm 121

Protection for the soul

Psalm 121 is one of a collection of "songs of ascent" sung by Jewish pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem for one of Israel's great feasts. Basically it is hymn of trust that God will watch over his people as they journey along potentially dangerous roads, up through the hills of Judea to the Holy City.

Does God say that his people will never encounter trouble? No. The awful truth is that even Christians get robbed and mugged, raped and murdered. Statistics indicate that more followers of Jesus were martyred for their faith in the twentieth century than in the previous nineteen centures combined. You will not find any biblical evidence to suggest that believers are exempt from the ugly violence of a fallen world.

As Jesus said in Matthew 10:28: At worst, evil people "can only kill your body; they cannot touch your soul."

Based on Praying God's Promises in Tough Times by Len Woods (Tyndale) p 94

IN TWO HIM.....SEE
He is our Jehovah Shammah; He is there for us (Ezekiel 48:35)
There isn't any place in the world in which we can go, that God isn't there
He is with us everywhere and created everything
IN HIM, under the shadow of His wings, is the arena which births an overcomer!

With IN HIM, we lose ourselves
With out Him, we find ourselves lost again
OH taste and SEE, that the Lord is good
He longs to be intimate with you!

No More Dying to Do

"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man."
(Hebrews 2:9)

Death. It's not a popular topic--even among believers. In fact, a great many are just plain scared of it. Oh yes, they talk about having eternal life. Yet when the devil tries to threaten their earthly survival with sickness or calamity, they panic.

Why? Because they haven't learned to look at death through God's eyes. Even though their spirit has been made immortal, they haven't renewed their minds to include that truth. If they had, when the devil tried to push their panic button, they'd just laugh and say, "You can't scare me, devil. I've done all the dying I'm ever going to do!"

That's true, you know. The Word of God says that you, as a born-again believer, are never going to see death (John 8:51). Jesus has been your substitute. He suffered death, so you wouldn't have to. And when He was raised, Hebrews 2:14-15 says, "He destroyed him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And delivered them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage."

If you've made Jesus the Lord of your life, the only death you'll ever experience is behind you now. It occurred the instant you received Christ. At that moment, your old self--the one whose nature was to sin and rebel against God--died. Your body didn't die, but your spirit man--the real you-- died to Satan and all of his works. You became "a new creature" (2 Cor. 5:17), immortal and absolutely incapable of death!

When you're finished with your work on the earth, you're not going to die. You'll simply shed your earthly shell and relocate to a far more glorious place.

Go to the Word and get God's perspective on death. Make a study of it. Once the reality of your immortality begins to dawn on you, the devil will never be able to threaten you with it again.

Scripture Study: Hebrews 2:9-15

Blessings,
Vicky

I am so glad your heart is full and your spirit has been renewed. That touches my heart deeply.

I'll be posting today's now, but remember I won't be back posting again until Monday, July 7 starting tomorrow as I leave for Pa. to see my family. I love all of you guys!

Tuesday, June 24

We reach a point in this program where one trying incident doesn't have to ruin our whole day. We reach a point where we don't have to be strung out on an emotional binge anymore. We eventually learn to take each day with everything in it. We learn to take today with humor, with acceptance, and with love.

This is not to say we become doormats to be used as anyone chooses. It just means we're not going to complicate existing situations with emotional excesses. Just For Today, let's leave all the trials and complications for God to handle. Have I learned to avoid emotional binges?

When I start to feel the pressure of today's tribulations let me know that God can handle anything.

My Plan for handling problems today is:

Yes, indeed, Elayne. God is not finished with any of us just yet. We are works in progress. The gifts God wants for us come with a price. The most costly price of all. We must give of self to obtain them. For me, strength came with many trials. I no longer ask for patience because I struggle with the tribulations that "worketh patience". Instead, I ask for endurance. God does present us the opportunity of having these gifts in our lives. They are always available to us. We can reach for them at any time. It is not a failure not to achieve them but just one more God given opportunity to live our lives closer to Him. Thank you for this wonderful post. My heart is full and my spirit renewed.
