emoticon to the group Janet. You have good plan. Sorry you go off diet when you lose. I think that is common. We feel we deserve a reward for losing weight. Maybe using something other than food as reward would keep you on track. A wedding or being few pounds lighter when I step on doctor's scale keeps me on track. Lately, my reward has been doing away with leg and back pain. A massage, hair or nail appointment, scented candle, etc. can be rewards too.

Hi, I'm Janet. I'm 61 and new to the group. I want to lose 50 pounds, but right now I'm thinking more about 5-10. It seems more practical. Unfortunately, I lose 5, then stop focusing/working so hard on it and immediately gain it back. I'm looking for a group that will encourage me to stay on the path to weight loss. Thank you!

Thank you Appealstome for your response. I have tried to shake things up and it seems to be good for a short while and then the same up and down cycle happens. I have adjusted food amounts, exercises. I will eventually figure this out.

Welcome to the group Hubbard. My daughter's married name is Hubard.

I wish I had answer to help you lose. I am in the same place as you. I am 70. Lost weight when I joined Spark and gained it plus more back without changing my diet, exercise, etc. due to med changes.

Do you take medication? What type of diet do you follow? Do you sleep well? Drink 8 glasses of water? Lack of water can cause dehydration and lack of weight loss. I recently read that too much exercise could be the problem. Although exercise is good, it stresses adrenal glands and messes cortisol levels.

I found that intermittent eating helped me lose a few pounds. Intermittent eating means I eat between 10am and 7pm with nothing but calorie free herbal tea before bed. As we age, our normally slow metabolism becomes slower at night. Not eating after dinner allows our body to burn the calories we ate that day. I heard if we aren't hungry upon waking, it means we ate too much or late previous night. I am starving in the morning after fasting.

I log my food, med, exercise and weight weekly. This allows me to see what does and doesn't work. I noticed that eating a snack lunch helped me lose a few pounds, but I get hungry after doing this a few days in a row and end up eating regular lunch consisting of veggie salad with 3 ozs protein and gain the weight back.

I read eating more fiber leads to weight loss. I eat a lot of fiber and it hasn't made difference for me.

I use fitbit to track my exercise and Myfitnesspal to log food. I eat under my calorie count daily since I do not eat exercise calories. My protein is alway short and don't know how to increase. I eat protein, veggies, small starch and fruit with each meal. I am going to try giving up nuts and sweets ( 1 oz of dark chocolate) to see if that helps.

I put library hold on book titled 'how not to diet' and waiting to arrive. The author gave local hospital talk that I could not attend since it was full. If I learn more from book I will share with group.

Good morning. I am 62 and trying to lose about 50 pounds. I have been with Sparkpeople about 10 months. I fluctuate up and down with the same 5 pounds for months. I do exercise, walking, swim aerobics, yard work, etc. I can't seem to pull it together to continue my journey. I have lost approximately 100# from my heaviest to date. I lost some before sparkpeople. My husband is supportive. I will be eager to read your suggestions and hopefully break through my 5# anchor and move towards my goal weight. Not giving up, I can do this.

emoticon Grayson69. Congratulations on joining team and making changes. I am same age and on rollercoaster too. Exercising slowly will lead to it being easier over time. I wish you a successful journey.

emoticon to the group Adalouise. Losing weight in our 60s is difficult. I am in same boat. Logging food, exercise, water and sleep on an app led to me losing a few pounds.

Good luck.

emoticon to the team Barb. I am 69 and trying to lose weight too. I hope doing something different works when your motivation is weak. I am have been trying to lose weight for three years and always trying something new. I found eating fruit after dinner along with knitting squashes my urge to eat sweets. Good luck on your journey.
