Treat your horse well, and other boarders will come around. I've found that horse people tend to judge how you treat your horse more than how you look!

And welcome to the team. I'm down in MD, so I can't help with trailering, either...

Oh! The zombie makeup. Yes... that was actually for a fundraiser in Columbus, OH called the "Zombie Walk." They raised canned goods for the less fortunate. Zombies rock.

Ya, that zombie look could be a little off-putting...

I think though if you treat people kindly and act friendly, they will get over it and see you for who you are.

My appearance. The tattoos and piercings tend to throw people off. They seem to think "evil," before anything else.

Why would they be afraid of you? because your horse is so big? you'll win them over when they see how gentle s/he is.

I board Emmy about 10 minutes away from my house in Canton, OH. Roy Bevington is the man's name. He's an older gentleman and rides with me when he's not working... but he's got 15-20 boarders who are "afraid" of me.

Sounds like you are having a good time with your Belgian! Palominogirl's idea is good -- check local barns, tack stores, breeders, trainers, lesson barns, boarding barns... Where are you keeping your new baby?

Oooh... That's tough. I'm in California. Otherwise, I'd help you out!

You'll find riding buddies! Just get the word out there. Maybe to a local barn???

Awesome! I'm half Italian. My grandparents on my Dad's side are from Sicily. Italian food has always been quick and easy... and delicious.

I'm really, really, really hoping I can find a riding group in my area that can trailer Emmy, because I don't have a truck or trailer to do so to meet up with people. She's a Belgian, but her short stature (even if she does weigh darn near 2,000 pounds) helps when it comes to getting a lift.

Tell me about it... I'm Italian, so I know exactly how you feel! Pasta has always been somewhat of a staple in my household.

Utilize the food tracker if you can! It's the BEST tool on here to help you really get a handle on your "binging". Best of luck to you, my friend! We're all here if you need anything.

My name's Kris. I'm 24 years old. I live with my life partner and our two young children. We have a zoo of animals, but last October, we rescued an ex-plowhorse named Emmy. She's a 16hh Belgian Draft that I have slowly broke into a trail horse. I ride her western and other than being a big scaredy cat, she's doing fantastic.

I've put on 40 pounds since I've met my life partner, and I'd like to lose it... so I thought I'd get back on track. So... here I am. Howdy.

PS) I live in Ohio and I'm always looking for people to ride with.
