Very cool. I love to write, and networking with other writers is inspiring. We'll have to keep in touch while on this journey to a healthier weight and lifestyle.

That is great. I'm attempting to lose weight in a similar fashion. My doctor recommended the Flat Belly Diet. She said a lot of her patients are having good success with it. It encourages eating healthy fats along with some other strategies like no sugar, etc. Some friends of mine also lost weight using Hungry Girl recipes, and they've recently lost a lot of weight following the "It Starts with Food" diet. It is based on whole foods and they list 30. They also ate from the Paleo Comfort Foods Cookbook, which I just ordered. It is a very nice cookbook. But truthfully, the last time I was on SparkPeople, I lost weight whenever I stayed in my calorie range, except towards the end. I plateaued, and even started gaining back some of my weight while eating about 1400 calories a day. So, I talked to my doctor about it, and she said to keep mixing things up. I'm reading that as I should change what I'm eating to break the plateau. I think I need to watch the calories, but all calories are not created equal, in my humble opinion. So, I'm going to try this again. I'm also going to eat foods higher in fiber to fill me up. I don't like being hungry.

That's awesome that you're training for a marathon! Good for you. I'd love to see the cover of your cookbook and anything else you'd like to share. My email address is deepforest@zoho.com

Thank you for the great advice about the publisher of your cookbook. I will follow up on that. I looked into CreateSpace, but the research I've done on my own, turned up some negatives, as well as positives, about CreapteSpace. Mostly, the criticisms were about the quality of the paper and print. That concerned me because if I put all this work into a book, I want good quality from the publisher. For the positives, POD, gives even us amateurs a chance to publish a book, and I can write it from the comfort of my home.

Poetry is hard to write, at least for me. I am a technical writer, but I'm branching out into creative writing as I approach retirement. I found the precision required in technical writing good discipline for me, but then it dampened my creative side. It's fun getting in touch with my creative side again.

Talk to you soon!

Emily

emoticon DEEPFOREST and emoticon to SparkPeople and the team...Nice to have you with us on the journey to a healthier lifestyle.

I have several books in progress, and right now I'm classifying them as "PERSONAL". Once I get to a certain level in the books I'll start taking steps to identify publishing methods.

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

Don't be afraid to give your best at what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

I write mostly for myself. Right now I am making notes for a new one on my weight loss journey. I am taking the parts from different weight loss books that I have & using the parts that work for me. I am calling it Healing Body, Mind & Spirit Journal Book.

Hi:
My husband and I just completed a family cookbook for our reunion. We worked with a company called Gateway Rasmussen The Cookbook Printer. Their service was excellent.
They were always there with answers to questions. I dealt with Randy Banera who was a breath of fresh air every time I called her. Endless patience and such a big laugh and wonderful sense of humour.
The head office address is 385 DeBaets Street, Winnipeg, MB, Canada, R2J 4J8
US Distribution Centre: 472 South 5th Street, Pembina, ND, USA. 58271
Phone number (204)632-1483. X 899
Email: randy@cookbookprinter.com
I am heartily recommending them because they did such a stellar job on our book. If you are interested I can send you a picture of our cookbook cover, this is coming through my Mini so would need an email to send because the picture is on my desktop computer.

As to writing I have been writing since I was five years old. I have a collection of poetry built up over the years that my family keeps bugging me to do something with. Thus far circumstances have never conspired to get me and the urge in the right place. Apparently Rasmussen will also print this kind of stuff so I'm keeping them in the back of my head. Not sure I would discipline myself enough to write a book however, as a runner and cyclist I know I could. Currently training for my first half marathon in Sept with second one following four weeks later.
I think this writer's forum will be a wonderful addition to my tool kit. Perhaps it will give me the shove I need to move forward.

I've started the long, and exciting journey of writing two books. My first book started out as a gift to my children and close friends, and it has blossomed into much more. It is a collection of our favorite family recipes, many are very old. I'm also writing a very controversial historical novel. I'm interested in any advice on POD companies or publishers. I'm not sure what software program to use for these books. For the time being, I'm using WriteItNow for my novel, for organizational purposes, but I'm not sure what to use for my cookbook. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am excited to learn more about your writing endeavors too!
