Yeahhhh! Thanks Loren. That worked. I thought I had seen this once before and could never find it again. I should put this on the things I learned post!

Howdy...and welcome to the team.

Sorry Ism so late responding to this post...I didn't know it was here. (Side note ~ Loren...is there a setting somewhere that will let people know a new post has been added?)

Anyway, please post and ask...my guess is we'll all learn. I'm sure you'll be answering answering as much as asking! We like learning too...I think it's the nerd in us hah.

By the way...I hate those graphing calculators too!

Hey Hey! Well I am glad you found us. I am not a mathy person, but I know we've got some engineers and other math folks around so please do ask! I might actually learn something new too :).

I will say, it takes a lot of effort to go back and teach yourself something. Especailly if you didn't have a knack for it in your younger days. I too remember algebra coming in and thinking "we will start something else next week, this is just silly and will pass." No one told me it would be the basis for all math still to come!

Hey howdy there!

I'm a sponge for new (or renewed) knowledge and love to learn about anything. I'm a substitute teacher (certified in social studies already, but no jobs at the moment) and i sub math and science an awful lot, but i hate not being able to help students who might have issues. Its why i've been saving video lectures on my iTunes U space (bless you podcasting!!!) and so far, reteaching myself algebra a few hours (and notebooks with colored pens) at a time with old video lectures/lessons. I've always had an appreciation for math, but never was terribly good at it--at least, after they started throwing letters in math problems (what the hell are THOSE doing there, i gasped as a freaked out 6th grader who was put into honors math, and learned how to give up so i could go back to normal math...boy i regret that now). I'm starting slow and re-teaching myself, though (elementary algebra at the moment), which also helps since the terminology and focus seems to change once in a while and I hate being so far behind.

Otherwise, i'm totally interested in engineering--i have a feeling my thesis paper for history in a couple of years will hit on that (and the corresponding math), and I want to understand that better too. I'm weird in many instances, i suppose--i hate graphing calculators with a passion and would rather dedicate several pages to doing it all by hand and understanding how to come up with the answer. the HOW has always interested me, and drove my teachers nuts, i'm sure. So I'm actually trying to reteach myself in my spare time.

Well, i'll be annoying you guys with questions the next few years, I'm sure, but i do love learning--especially from those who know better than me! have fun and be good.
