I joined this team this Summer and I don't think I took the time to introduce myself. I'm Sandy from Washington State. I joined SP on 10/11/2009 and I'm 70 (and a 1/2).....LOL. I belong to another sparkteam for the 5% Fall Challenge & I usually post in there as well as in the WW app.
Retirement has kept me busy doing volunteer work, hobbies, Mom to two fur babies & a grown son. I hope everyone is having a good week. This month, I increased my "long" walks to two times a week, with shorter walks in between. I do have access to a treadmill but I really prefer the outdoors; even in the rain.

Just a few thoughts of mine....have a good day!

Hello everyone. Iím turning 75 in a few days and have be yo-young for 25 years. Iím back to sensible eating and journaling every bite on My Fitness Pal which is easier than the food journal here. I love Spark for its forums and motivation though.

Good morning! Born in 1948, I have different health issues. My cardiologist has been after me to lose weight but having been obese for 25 years and more, it's not an easy task.

This past year, I was at the point of being wheelchair ridden. In an apartment, and the cold winters, high winds and snow we had made it hard to walk outside on icy sidewalks.

I turned 70 last July and went zip-lining in September ... hardest part was the walk down to the line, and up from the landing spot ... back surgery is coming in Feb, Right now I am recovering from a broken foot. All to say I have not been to the gym this year as I cannot drive. I should be given the okay next week so planning to plan. I know what I need to do, and I do not do it.

In less than a week I will turn 70. I find it is time to re evaluate my goals and desires. Do I wish to continue as I am or do I wish to find a happy medium. I have failed at my goals so often I am not sure why I set them. Hoping to get inspired.

Hi, Iím turning 70 tomorrow. I have been Sparking on and off for a while and have been slowly loosing weight since 2007. I have lost 117 pounds and have only 20 more to lose. I live in Florida. I am I try to eat healthy, drink water and track daily. I try to exercise at least 30 minutes every day but I am limited to what I can do because if arthritis. Glad to meet you all.

Hello, I'm Judy from Michigan. When I joined Spark people I lost 40 pounds the first year. Then life happened. Husband had a stroke, back surgery.. I gained almost all the weight back. I'm now trying to get back to loosing the weight again but I'm lazy and don't like to exercise. I know it's important to exercise so I'm going to try. Oh I'm 71. Had both knees replaced and I know I would benefit from loosing the weight.

I love Spark people they are always there for me

Hi Everyone!
My name is Janis, and I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I am so happy to see a Team that covers my age. I will be 72 in December. Last Sunday, my Husband & I celebrated our 51st Wedding Anniversary. It's hard to believe we've been married that long; it just doesn't seem that long.

I have been a Sparker since August 2010, but got more involved and more serious with things such as weight in 2012. I even managed to reach my goal weight. Months later, when I began to focus on another issue, slowly but surely, my enthusiasm left me and a number of those pounds I had lost came back. I have not been able to get the motivation back that had been over-flowing. I had a super Team Leader from anther team teach me how to use the Nutrition & activity trackers. I have kept with that.

I'm not giving up. I will get my spark back. I hope to become acquainted with many of you and become Spark Friends.

Hi, I'm 77, live in California and I would like to join you in the quest for a healthier life. I would be much happier if I were 50 pounds lighter, but, for right now, I'll settle for losing 20 in the next year.

I have some pretty good online exercise sources on YouTube and I like the Doug Shrift Eldergym.

Today I start my eighth decade on Planet Earth. My main activity is walking and my hobbies are quilting and amateur radio. I've been a Sparkie for over a decade and have seen many changes in the program and website; some good and some not so good. Right now I'm "up to my ears in alligators", since I have a big project that needs to be finished next week. I won't be too active on this team until the end of the month, but I will pop in daily to see what is going on.

Hi everybody! I'm 72 and started living a healthy lifestyle (eating less, exercising more) last October after finding out I was pre-diabetic. I've lost 59 pounds so far and feeling better than I've felt in a long time. Since losing the weight, I'm not pre-diabetic any longer. I walk 30+ minutes a day and have started muscle toning exercises. I still have 20 more pounds to lose to get to my goal weight. May lose 10-20 more pounds after that...but not sure yet. Just joined the Maintaining Weight and Transitioning Team since I'm thinking ahead to what I will do next so I keep the lost weight off. Been a yo-yo dieter all my life and I want to end that and stick with this healthy lifestyle and habits I've learned here at Spark thanks to all the great Spark members. Wish everyone has a happy and healthy week!

My name is Margie. I have been with Spark People for a few years. I live in Colorado and I am now 71. I lost about 10 pounds but need to lose another 10. It is definitely getting more difficult the older and lazier I get. I eat a healthy Mediteranian diet but I still do too much snacking and eat too many calories at my evening meal.

I am a fitbit user and try to get 11k steps per day but I am bad about cardio exercise. I am trying to lose just a few more pounds to increase my motivation.

Hi everybody! I will hit the big 70 in June.
It took me a long time to realize that the decades long weight creep couldn't be explained totally by aging and slowing metabolism. I was eating too darn much food!

The sizing creep of the fashion industry didn't help by allowing so many extra inches in my size 10s that it translated to a size 14 of the 1960s.

So at 61 I joined Spark and have been in maintenance for 7 years.
I'm looking forward to moving up to the 70-74 age group when I run races since I will no longer have to compete with those youngsters new to Medicare. LOL

1960 - 32.5, 25, 34.5
Today - 38, 30, 40.5

The race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running.

I am an oldie in Sparkpeople. I joined in my late 50's when I needed to lose 35 lbs. I managed to do that in steps, tracking my food and eating 200 calories less than I needed, once I plateaued I adjusted to The 100 from Jorge Cruise, I used to make his mug cake while detoxing from sugar, once I plateaued, I continued to follow low carb vegetarian, and then with meditations with Jon Gabriel. I reached my end goal after I retired. Stress and lots of sweets in the office kept me from losing more than 20 lbs. Then in my mid 60's I lost all of the 35 lbs. I kept it for many months but going from vegetarian to raw vegan I was eating lots of fruit, not just berries until I had gained 10 lbs back, and on some days 13 lbs up!!! Again that because the new basis weight and it wouldn't budge. But all the clothes I bought felt tight and I didn't feel light and as healthy so I decided to go back to tracking and eating low carb. I don't do well with grains, or better they do well with me. I just started and I am down to 2 lbs from the 13 so I am on my path. Once I reach my goal I will do 6 days low simple carbs, 1 day carb up. Everyone has their own tricks and for me grains don't work. Eating vegan I have enough of complex carbs with the food so it really isn't a true low carb. It is low simple carbs, high fats. For my memory I add coconut oil to my coffee in the mornings, and I do rebounder for my circulation and balance. I also have a dog I walk everyday. Happy trails! We can reach our goals, we always do, we have reached 70's heck we can do anything!

Hello from Brisbane, Aus. I am 71, but feeling much older lately! Ready for new beginnings in 2017!
I have been on Spark a long time, but need a new SPARK!! I happened to find the over 70's team and hoping it will enlighten me. Had a very stressful 2016 & yrs before... glad to see the new year and maybe a new me. Lost all my fitness because I had a fracture and then had to rest and recover.
Been caring for family members for years and then my DH got sick in Nov. Needless to say, I didn't take care of myself. I am ready to get back on track with the support of this team!

Welcome Nancy. Sounds like you lead an active life. I used to go to Curves but they have closed them down near me. I don't understand why as so many people loved them. I guess I am the oldest one here. 85 and have limitations as far as exercising and walking with a bad ankle and back. I live in sunny FL. '

Hi I will be "70" in March 2017 - I've been with Sparkpeople since January 2007 - I thought it might be uplifting.to join a new team for the New Year. My husband and Iive near Boston, MA. We celebrated our 50th anniversary last year. Our son and his wife have just moved to Boston and will be living near us. My oldest daughter and her family live in Tolland, CT. with our three grandchildren. My younger daughter is a music teacher, We are so fortunate she has a very cute Italian greyhound that we baby-sit for Monday through Friday. I start my day going to Curves at 8:00 a.m. Then pick-up Nemo the Italian greyhound, who loves to spend time with my husband. At 10:00 a.m. We go to the pool for an hour Monday through Friday. I looking forward to getting to know everyone. I log onto Spark everyday and look forward to opening my e-mail to see what new member blogs and health information that is posted on Sparkpeople everyday.

Hi ,

I am Roz from Trinidad in the Caribbean.
Have been on Sparks for sometime now.
I am 71 , widowed almost 4 years after 38+ years of marriage.
Have two lovely adult daughters and they have made me a grandmom
Of three beautiful granddaughters,
I 'm not as active physically as I should and need to,but I do try
I walk, swim,, garden for exercise but I need to do it more regularly.
Hope I can be an asset to your team

Hi, I'm Gloria. I live in SW Ontario, Canada and enjoy all four of our lovely seasons. I am 81 next month and have been separated for 1 1/2 years.

I've been on Classy 70's before and was leader. Marsha FL sent me a note asking me to come in and look around with the idea of rejoining. I did look and here I am again!

Hi everyone, my name is Charlotte. I am semi-retired and live in Georgia with my wonderful husband of 33 years. Between the two of us we have 4 children, 6 grandchildren and almost 4 great grands In the summer months we do gatehouse attendant work for the USACE. We are full time RV'ers. We are living our dream.

I have around 20 pounds to lose. My goal is to lose the weight by September.

I am semi retired & live in Ohio. I worked until 2012 as a social worker with Head Start. I now work 1 day a week in activities in a memory care unit at a local nursing home.

I have 9 grandchildren & 4 great grands. I love reading, music, movies & bargain shopping. Most of my shopping now is for other people since I don't need more "stuff".

I live alone with my 2 senior dogs.

Found this thread as most appropriate for me. I added Spark to my new (first!) SparkPhone last night and this morning found I had been placed into the 50+ with less than 10 pounds to lose Team. It didn't seem appropriate, so I went looking for the right Team. This may be IT.

Hello, Everyone. I'm Patti and I live in Lacey, Washington. I'm a Craft Teacher and crafts and making friends (and keeping them) are my life. I have 5 children and just reached 70 years old. In November-December 2013 I had both hips replaced and got serious about Spark when the doctor allowed me to start exercising again. So, now I've been on Maintenance for 18 months. I've taken on leadership of two Spark Teams--Spin Me a Yarn and Olympia WA Spark! I do love the Spark Family and the 30 day challenges to learn more and keep me motivated.

I hope to learn more about others "my age" on this team.

Sally, I agree with you that it is hard to get started and involved. There are 3 different forums under new members so which one is the best. I think as a team coleader I will talk to the other leaders and see if we can change something so it is more member friendly. Do you as a new member of 70s have any suggestions that might be helpful to put on a forum? Should we maybe ask a few questions to get new people more involved or just leave it open to put down what they want? I know some members just want to weigh in and others need the support so we need to address that. Otherwise we will just have members in the team that do nothing with us but add numbers to the amount of people in the team. Glad you brought it up. I will work on it. Hugs, Jude

Hi, I'm Sally, I'd like to know what you are doing to "have the food thing down pat"! I think I'm in "starvation mode". Please share what you are doing! I'm not great on the exercise either, I have joined a "circuit" group, it used to be "curves", all nice women there, I'm giving it a whirl, it's not too interesting, I hurt all over (waaa! emoticon ), but will give it a chance. I have a knee replacement that has not gone as well as a "Type A" person would like have it! Ordinarily I would have been hiking or walking a couple of miles a day. I just can't get back into it, my knee caves in periodically, the Physical therapist suggests that I have stretched ligaments that won't shrink back, so need to increase the quads and glutes. Shoot, I can barely do the circuit! I refuse to quit and remain unable to get out and "do my thing"! I have lost 15 pounds on "Reboot with Joe Cross", juicing, but as soon as I started eating raw whole foods I haven't lost one ounce. I honestly think I'm not eating enough. Found Spark People looking for vegetarian recipes (I'm not philosophically a vegetarian, just think avoiding processed food and animal fat is probably a good healthy idea). I love the food tracker, and all of the other trackers. I love the possibility of finding some support and great ideas on how to proceed with my goal to lose 30 pounds or so. Thanks in advance! How do I introduce myself officially? Seems like I've done it several times already! Can't find a place on this page except by starting a "new thread".

I would also like you to read the devotions I post each day. One made me cry as it came at just the time I was really stressed out and couldn't sleep so got up and got on the computer and it wouldn't work.
The devotion spoke of sleep being necessary for the body. The devotions can speak to every aspect of our lives so you might want to give it a try.

I just read down to the b eginning of January and am surprised to see that we have gained 9 NEW MEMBERS SINCE JAN 1.

Hi Classy 70's
I am not new to the team, but was away for 2 1/2 years. (shame on me). I am now back.
For those who don't remember me, I took over as leader when Jen had to step down for awhile then I ended up having to step down.
Good to be back and to be in touch with our fearsome leader, Jen.
I am now on track again and exercising at the gym at least 3-5 days a week as my schedule allows.
I am also taking charge of my health by getting into healthy (non chemical) nutrients. I feel like a new person.

Well, I am "beyond" 70 -- 88 to be honest. Getting ready to move to another State after 35 years in this same apartment. Heading for a new chapter in my life--new everything ahead. I am joyful at the prospect and am eager to start this new chapter.
