Hello Everyone. My name is Tabatha. I was diagnose with PCOS about 10 years ago. I never did anything about it as I was done having children. About 4 years ago my periods stopped. I was really happy about that because my periods were so terrible. Well now that I have lost 29 pounds my period has finally showed up again today for the first time. I am feeling so happy about it because that means I am getting healthier. I am just hoping they don't go back to being as horrible as they use to be.

HI everyone,

I was diagnosed with PCOS years ago, but to be honest. I didn't do much about it. Now I'm married, I'm 35 and I'm trying to lose some weight which we all know how hard that is. I am in a weight loss clinic with my dr. I get 150 carbs a day and 60-80 g of protein. I've been steadily losing so it seems to be working. I'm down 29 pounds with my next weigh in on the 21st. I'm trying to lose 87 pounds total. 29 down with 58 to go, so I'm one third of the way there.

Hi! My name is Tammy I am from Lowville N.Y. I am 55 years old and have two grown miracle sons 30 & 29. The thirty year old is married and I have a granddaughter and grandson. I have had PCOS since 1980. Had to take fertility pills to get pregnant with my first child and the second was a wonderful surprise without any help. Now I am overweight and working hard to lose so I can be around to see my grandchildren grow. I have lost 14 lbs but have a long way to go, any help would be appreciated with nutrition or exercise advise. I have been reading some comments and I am ready to get moving.

Welcome to the team, Lisa!

First I want to say congratulations on your pregnancy! I hear from so many women who struggle with infertility that I rejoice when someone overcomes the disease and conceives. With weight, it's so weird and it affects each of us differently. Sometimes I am able to lose weight easily and at other times it feels like it's impossible. I believe that is due to fluctuations in hormones, especially around my menstrual cycle. My advice would be to choose a plan that works for you and stick to it to the best of your ability, and don't give up! Everything else that stems from PCOS and weight issues like sleep apnea and pre diabetes will improve too.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didnt do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

Welcome! Keep up the good work! 10 lbs is something to be very very proud of and the longer you push through it the more the cravings for the "old" foods goes down. With enough determination and support I think you can achieve anything. But you are right the best way to take it is one day at a time. :) emoticon

Hi,

Thanks so much for asking how I am. I am doing pretty good. I am doing a low carb diet and have had my ups and downs, but for right now, it is going okay. I have lost about ten pounds and am taking it one day at a time, so hopefully, I will succeed. The only real struggle I am having right now, is missing coke and tea, which I really love. I hope everyone else is doing well.

Very glad you are here, Princess! With two little ones you will certainly have no problem getting your workouts in!

One of the things that really helps women with PCOS is strength training. There are some really good articles out there. It has certainly helped me in my loss of 198 lbs. Here are some resources...

I think you will definitely find these interesting...

Hi,

Thank you so much for your advice, I really appreciate it! I am going to be doing low-carb, so hopefully, cutting out sugar and starch will help me lose weight. In the past, I have lost weight using low-carb, but it was very difficult to stay motivated, but by being on here now, I will be able to stay motivated. Thanks again!

Lisa

Hello Lisa and welcome to the team! Everyone here is wonderful and very understanding. What a blessing to have two beautiful children. I was diagnosed in 2008 with PCOS, I am 34 and have not been able to have any children yet.

From my experiences, weight loss comes easiest for me with PCOS when I eat Paleo, basically cutting out anything processes, all refined sugars and eating clean. It's like the weight starts to actually fall off. I find it's not easy to eat this way all the time, but I am trying. If you are new to exercise, I highly recommend starting with the 10 minute a day challenge here on spark people, it was a great way for me to get started.

Happy to have you join us, I hope we can help motivate you on your journey!

Hi,

My name is Lisa and I live in Tennessee and am 33 years old. I am married and am the proud mother of two beautiful girls, ages 16 and 8. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005 and ended up having to take fertility medicine to get pregnant with my now 8 year old daughter. Since my diagnosis in 2005, my weight has been increasing now matter what I do. Now I also have pre diabetes related to the PCOS and have also recently been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea, so losing weight with these conditions has been extremely difficult. Anyone with any advice and tips that could help me would be greatly appreciated! I am very excited to be on here and hope to meet lots of friends along the way!
